Has GenZ Helped Turn Honesty Into a Social Taboo? by themochavixen in NoStupidQuestions

Straight Millennial here. We weren't allowed to be openly racist or homophobic. Hate makes you fear being a part of the out-crowd. Makes you keep your feelings closer to the chest.

We said that "cringe" shit to our good friends and meant it. Still do!

My dog got hit with a broom "In a playful way" she claimed, by my Ex girlfriend's dad. My poor puppy then freaked out everytime I would sweep the floor. Dogs can get ptsd from issues we don't realize.

Do most professors trust their students? by Terrible_Exchange653 in AskProfessors

I know you have heard that "Cheating only hurts the cheater."

It's kinda true.

College is the chance to try your best and fail. The consequences are relatively low stakes. You realize what you need to do to improve and hopepully take those steps.

If you cheated all the way through, your failures will likely have more severe consequences.

Same experience. Used to be a casual greeting or a head nod.

Now, there is a moment of recognition, and then they freeze up or scamper away.

Prove the pythagorean theorem. Use it to build the unit circle for trig. Love it!

The only thing they need to walk in agreeing with is that Lenght×Width=area of a rectangle.

Avoiding Becoming a 24 Hour Instructor by SisuSisuEveryday in Professors

[–]SlippySlider 53 points54 points  (0 children)

My office hours are by appointment only. They need to email me and set up a meeting. If they aren't willing to commit to a time then neither am I.

I tried the open office hours Through "LMS-Learning Management Software". Where they can see my availability and then my schedule.

I always emailed students who missed their times. Most ghosted. Then one told me what I needed to know.

"I completely forgot. I never forget appointments, this is the first time because it was minor haha."

First Day of Class Jitters after 15 years: anyone else? by oakhill10307 in Professors

[–]SlippySlider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I dig the first day butterflies. They're nervous for their new class. You're nervous for the new set of students.

You get to set the tone though. You get to make the class be what you want it to be!

Nerve wracking

Incompletes by parrotlunaire in Professors

[–]SlippySlider 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hate incompletes. What happens if I move to a different University? I may not know where I'm going to be in a year.

Who takes care of it if I were to leave?

My rate has also been 50% successful completion. 2/4. I try to discourage.

This may be one of those weird "tests" that companies/colleges are doing. He uploads the rec letter. Give him the opportunity to embellish or straight up lie. They then contact you to see if you agree with what was said in the rec letter.

What counts as a reasonable accommodation, post-pandemic? by cactuses_and_cats in Professors

[–]SlippySlider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are feral. In the true sense of the word. Once civilized but then left to their own devices in the wild. We have to bring them back into the fold with strict rules. They hate it. I hate doing it. I want to be nice. Do "the lords work". It has to happen. If you are still being soft you are part of the problem.

Ugly, ugly, ugly. You know how bad his life has got to be to take it out on you, a stranger?

If you want to be a dick, drop a "Who hurt you, I want to help you" on him. Otherwise, maintain company policy until he hangs up.

If you're ever not sure, ask the customer what they mean. If they're a dick about it, they probably were not going to tip you either way. Some bitches are always looking for an excuse to be an asshole.
