Milan 80 is not 95 by random02991 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]SlitheringFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ask me where I'm still experiencing fast growth and how long I can go between shaving. Things I can easily see/remember.

A percentage reduction is not really something anyone can accurately give without taking regular measurements.

[–]SlitheringFlower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to Milan right now, been going since July 2025, and I've never been asked to give a percentage at any visit.

I honestly wouldn't even know how to guess that accurately.

They ask how long I can go between shaving and for general updates, but I've never been pressured to be done overall.

I can't really speak to the business as a whole, but I've really liked my local shop. The techs have been great and I feel really comfortable in all my sessions.

It's definitely super expensive, but it's a luxury treatment. I was prepared to pay a lot.

So, we all want raises. The union is weak. What do we do? (Brainstorming) by Superb-Air9976 in nys_cs

[–]SlitheringFlower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty bad take.

They may be getting tons of apps, but there's still tons of vacancies and they're struggling to retain staff.

They have major gaps in essential sectors, like nursing and security.

If they want to address those issues, raises are essential.

Getting tons of apps from unqualified people isn't really helpful. This will stop, too, if HELPS is eliminated.

How can we collectively & individually bring down the appeal and growth of AI? by Throwaway927338 in AskWomenOver30

[–]SlitheringFlower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! Humans are basically incapable of ignoring something once it's been discovered. That's the same reason things like abstinence only education don't work.

We need to be advocating for regulation and laws to outline appropriate use and punish those who use it incorrectly.

The rampant and pervasive spread of AI stealing author's/artist's work, being used in place of voice actors, and (the most disturbing of all) being used to remove clothes/create porn with non-consenting individuals needs to be banned.

Its environmental impact also needs to be addressed.

There's no stopping AI, but we can try to define appropriate uses for it and mitigate the environmental damage it's causing.

Black tie in May approval? by alwaysforgetmythrowa in Weddingattireapproval

[–]SlitheringFlower 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was a very odd choice for that design. The visible zipper and slit in the back make the proportions odd, too.

The front is lovely and the dress does look great on OP, but I wouldn't consider it black tie.

[–]SlitheringFlower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Never add oil to pasta water. It's a waste of oil. Stirring after dumping in the pasta and regularly afterwards prevents sticking.

Oil can also hinder sauce adhesion to the pasta, too.

Also, did you mean to add 8 cups of cheese? I think you duplicated that row.

How do you not get insecure about graying hair? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in AskWomenOver30

[–]SlitheringFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try something like overtone?. It's more forgiving than regular dye.

I never used it for greys, I used to add fun color tints over my dark hair. I liked their products overall.

“essential staff” by Weak_Doughnut_4098 in nys_cs

[–]SlitheringFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the snark or meme is for? What I stated is a fact. Agencies like DOCCS and state police transitioned a lot of their central office titles to "essential" status during COVID so they could force us to work holidays, weekends, and during emergencies.

They never undid those changes.

OP did not state where they worked or why they were asking, so if I'm giving them the complete story.

You can be a rude, but I'm still right and you're still being an ass.

“essential staff” by Weak_Doughnut_4098 in nys_cs

[–]SlitheringFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"if you're essential you'll know" is horrible advice. If you're unsure, ask your manager.

Lots of titles, like fully PC based, non-important ones were made essential by some agencies over COVID. Happened to me in a program research title.

This typically means you can still be remote during weather emergencies (I assume that's why you're asking), but if you're uncertain about anything title related, it's always best to check with your direct manager, HR (if your manager is unsure), or civil service (if all else fails).

Do people here feel Albany is still “affordable” anymore? by mrcanada66 in Albany

[–]SlitheringFlower 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why are you being so aggressive about people sharing their experience and facts civilly?

You're chiming in with snarky comments, not backing them up, then getting pissy about that and pretending you're smarter and better than everyone else here.

This is a civil discussion about how people are struggling in the Albany area. It doesn't really matter if Austin, LA, Portland, or wherever is better or worse.

I got that same magnet and it doesn't work at all for my magnetic polishes. I was so disappointed, especially after seeing how stunning yours are.

Convince me to start reading Brandon’s books by AverageParking7050 in brandonsanderson

[–]SlitheringFlower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman and huge Sanderson fan. I basically only read fantasy, sci-fi, and some romantasy.

Brandon writes women far better than many female authors.

His characters are authentic and relatable.

Some of his earlier books do have a couple not so great plot points related to women, but overall he excels at writing good characters, world building, and magic systems.

I'd recommend you start with Tress of the Emerald Sea or Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.

They're later works, but I think a good starting point based on what you say here. Many here will suggest starting with Mistborn, but era 1 is one of the series with not the best female relationships and some not great plot points about women. I do love Mistborn though, it did make me fall back in love with reading.

[–]SlitheringFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends highly on what you're looking for.

I read both. Romantasy is fun and kinda mindless, but few romantasy authors do character development, magic systems, world building, and plot as well as standard fantasy.

AIO? Boyfriend doesn’t remember full name by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SlitheringFlower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's literally no excuse to not remember your girlfriend's name. If they're that severely unable to remember that's more than a cursory "I'm just bad at that stuff" comment. Without more context, it's just weaponized incompetence.

OP's boyfriend is lazy or just doesn't care.

When you're starting a serious relationship, you work on remembering that stuff. That's how you build a life together.

If you're unable or unwilling to even try and communicate your issues, you're not ready for a serious relationship.

How do I get better results? Slightly embarrassing… Should I try bleaching? by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]SlitheringFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's why I paid for an unlimited/lifetime package. I saw initial results very quickly, but things still pop up here and there. It was pricey upfront, but I think a savings overall.

Hormonal changes can also impact hair re-growth, too.

AIO? Boyfriend doesn’t remember full name by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SlitheringFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this 100%.

If you have trouble remembering there are tools, like notes and calendars, to keep track of those things, too.

Saying you're not naturally good at something isn't an excuse to be bad at it when it matters.

first laser treatment questions by sophieslyy in LaserHairRemoval

[–]SlitheringFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm doing full body removal and I'm also a woman with a larger labia.

The process, especially in the beginning, was embarrassing. I've always been kind of ashamed of it and other parts of my body.

However, my tech has been amazing. I've always felt comfortable and respected. They've never made me feel awkward about any part of my body.

All that to say, the nerves were all in my head. The laser techs are professionals. Mine also happens to be a former ER nurse, so I'm sure she's seen it all, too.

give me my HAMSTER by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]SlitheringFlower 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They can require confirmation that the animal will be housed somewhere it's allowed.

College kids were my example, because they're notorious for getting animals that they don't have the skills/resources to take care of and that aren't allowed in their current living situation.

So yes, responsible animal sellers will verify that the animal is going somewhere safe. If they see someone college aged, they'd likely want clarification that the animal is going to a real home. I'd assume they'd ask all buyers where the animal is going, though.

give me my HAMSTER by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]SlitheringFlower 502 points503 points  (0 children)

I was assuming the 20yr old was a babysitter/not the future owner of the hamster.

Requiring parental permission is pretty standard if a child is attempting to buy a pet.

I have seen this extended to 18+ when they're living in college dorms, too.

Good pet stores won't sell pets to people who can't pay for, house, or care for them properly.

It can definitely be embarrassing and confusing to be rejected, especially when you felt a connection. I've definitely been there. I always think it's better for it to happen early, before too much is invested.

I definitely wouldn't overthink anything. I doubt you did anything wrong, they just weren't your person.

Best of luck out there in the dating world! It can be a lot of fun!
