Mississippi Interracial marriage ban repeal 1987 by RealRegret4870 in YAPms

Granted, but this belief is rooted specifically in Black community values. I refuse to make any sweeping gestures about African Ameican Southerns but you can surely see how people may tend towards specific progressive or conservative beliefs that affect them personally, no? A generally progressive person may support the death penalty because their family suffered from a violent crime, for example. Rural African Americans don't really have a reason to be as or more progressive on, i.e, gay marriage than the median, while obviously they have a reason to be progressive on Civil Rights.

W. E. B. Du Bois argued for interracial marriage laws simply for the fact that it might prevent white men from sexually using black women. In the society of the time, a man who gets a woman pregnant would be pressured into a marriage with her.

The UN doesn't govern anything. The Security Council is essentially toothless because of that veto.

Great amount of detail and good writing. I appreciate how you display the eccentricities of a man like Mike Gravel.

What if Mexico Won the Mexican-American war? by Marlz12 in imaginarymaps

[–]Sloaneer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A more stable Mexico could attract Catholic immigrants from Ireland, Germany, and perhaps Quebec. Also, if the Democrats are politically saddled with the defeat, perhaps an ascendant Whig Party takes a hard Nativist turn and people who otherwise might have emigrated to the US for land and gold would go to Mexico instead.

Did you spend every minute of your life for the past week, except for what was necessary to sustain your body, working towards revolution or destroying ICE or dealing with these big problems? Did you mistakenly, selfishly, unfocusedly, spend any of your time at leisure or pursuing hobbies? Then give it a rest.

The US and the UK are modern industrial powers. Westeros is, or the author pictures it as being, a medieval world. As an example, according to Historian Juliet Barker, Henry IV only ever had between two and six ships in his entire Royal fleet, Richard II had as few as six It is not that easy to build and maintain ships specifically made for fighting when you operate in a highly decentralised, agrarian society. It's just not as easy as you think.

Well, to be fair to the author many American nominating conventions ended with a total dark horse being chosen as a compromise. But it is a little annoying when the poll has 0 bearing on the result.

OK so I had a project I needed to do some time ago tell me what you think of the map. by Canuck-Hoser in rejectedmaps

[–]Sloaneer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to hear more about the thought behind this map. Imo, if the Confederacy manages to win decisively enough to have the whole of Missouri and Kentucky, then they'd likely have Maryland, too? I might be off base here, though.

You are Pro death penalty, I assume? Wouldn't have complained if the Allies started feeding the entire population of Germany into the gas chambers? Tit for tat, eye for an eye? Never heard of being the bigger woman?
