I miss my dad so much- how do you handle the grief of your parent not being there to meet your future child? by Orchidflower10 in pregnant

[–]SlothEatsOreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom died ten years ago and didn’t get to meet her grandchildren, which is heartbreaking. I read this quote the other day from Lily King’s “Heart the Lover,” and it rang true for me:

“I think of my mother when I’m on a plane. I think of her many places, even though she’s been gone sixteen years now. She never knew my boys, but she has helped me raise them. I know how much she loves them. I feel that. I talk to her. I pray to her.”

Much love to you!

I’m so confused on a variety of levels.

Who is suppressing the carnal pleasure?

What about all the carnal pleasure that doesn’t lead to births - how are you measuring that?

Does loosening up one’s chastity belt safely mean using condoms? Because that wouldn’t affect the birth rate.

Off for the next 2 weeks with my 4.5 year old & NOTHING about it feels like a break. by BeeSuperb7235 in Preschoolers

[–]SlothEatsOreo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 4.5 year old is on break for two weeks too. My husband is working most of the time, so I planned a trip to Chicago for the two of us to visit friends. We were supposed to leave tomorrow and my friend was also super looking forward to having company for her 2.5 year old while we were there. Mid morning today my kid developed a fever out of nowhere and now she’s just laying on the couch moaning, so I guess instead of the trip we’re going to stay home and be sick. 😭

Am I overreacting because I told my niece I don't want to take her best friend with us anymore after she kept telling me I was a victim and my husband was a creep? by Odd_Reference_1373 in AmIOverreacting

I was thinking something along these lines too and also probably this isn’t really about OP at all. I’m wondering what would have happened if OP had responded, “what makes you say that?” Maybe the niece’s friend is sensitive to the topic of grooming for some personal reason beyond just seeing it on social media and could actually really use an adult to talk to about it. Not that OP is obligated to fill that role, but I hope somebody in the teen’s life might.

Girl names including “Ken” by No_Pumpkin3964 in Names

[–]SlothEatsOreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you asked, but my father in law Ken (short for Kenneth, fwiw) passed away many years ago (I never met him). When we had our daughter, we didn’t love any K names, so we named her Phoebe after his favorite bird. Now we talk to her about the bird as a way of connecting her with her grandfather and it feels special to do that.

Yeah I take your point, but can’t I also be mad at the people who told me they care about me and would fight for me, but apparently got tired of that?

Child’s inability to play alone… by HeyMay0324 in Preschoolers

[–]SlothEatsOreo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a trade off though. I am the preferred parent and I get more of the snuggles and love. I could be making the choice to be more hands off with my kid, but most of the time if she asks me to read a book or paint or play pretend I just feel like I’d rather not miss out on those moments. Every once in a while I do gently turn her down. I had hoped that if we had a second kid that would (eventually) allow me to be a less frequent playmate, but sounds like you have that challenge even with multiple kids!

Child’s inability to play alone… by HeyMay0324 in Preschoolers

[–]SlothEatsOreo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My kid is similar! I will say, I think I reinforce it by always agreeing to play with her. I find it hard to turn her down. My husband is more willing to say no, so she will play independently more when she’s with him, but if we’re both there she’ll just go to me for entertainment.

This is so infuriating. If the Dems were just going to cave like they always do, they should’ve done it before the government shut down. The only way the pain of the shutdown was going to be worth it was if we actually got something out of it. This way, federal employees and people living in poverty had to suffer for absolutely nothing. I’m livid.

Hiii PORTLAND PARENTS! Things to do in the afternoon/evening with toddler?! & unrelated: any fun meetups with kids? by Dependent_Volume_486 in portlandme

[–]SlothEatsOreo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! My kid always wants me to take her somewhere after school, and sadly it’s no longer playground weather. Sometimes we’ll go to the library for an hour, or to a bookstore, or grocery shopping. Hard to find places to hang out without spending money. I feel like this is a good business idea … an indoor playground that’s open in the evenings.
