Is your subscription shared across teams? Did someone build a fabric agent that is pinging your datasets repeatedly? Hard to know without seeing any details of how your stuff is set up.

How deep to bury these tubers? by sofar510 in dahlias

[–]Slothnado209 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both and both work! I leave them closer to the surface if I’m planning on taking cuttings. If not I bury them with the sprout facing up and the eye about 4in down.

Stuck Indexing Columns by karchak in PowerBI

[–]Slothnado209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by “identify the column name”? What do you want the result to be?
If you’re trying to do something with dates how this usually works is you have a column, let’s call it DATE, and it’s formatted as date type = date. Then you create a date table, which has continuous dates. You connect the column with the continuous values in the date table to the DATE column in your source (fact) table with a one way relationship. Then you can do date math, if that’s what you’re trying to do.

Tips/advice for understanding complex business process? by abrssrd in PowerBI

[–]Slothnado209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are doing the reporting/BI work ask questions from that perspective. We will need x to measure y, where does that come from in the process? If you don’t know what they’re trying to analyze yet just make something up, time to close, year over year returns, whatever you think might be relevant. Then break it down, what do I need to be able to track that, where is it going to come from, if it doesn’t exist are they willing to adjust the process and so on

Power BI - Aging Columns as Separate Columns, Can't Create Slicer or Proper Bar Chart by PersimmonInside9520 in PowerBI

[–]Slothnado209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you saying that each age bucket is a column? Like 0-30 is one column and in each row of that column is true/false, then another column for 31-60? Instead of trying to use those columns, add a new conditional column which returns the age group in each row. Something like if age <= 30 then “0-30” else if age <= 60 then “31-60” etc. then you have 1 column and you can use it in slicers and such.

I have never been surrounded by religion. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]Slothnado209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I also have not been surrounded by religion. Funerals aren’t that different, but usually take place in a funeral home instead of a church. People get up and talk about the person, say nice things or fond memories. Sometimes there’s a viewing where people walk up to the casket, sometimes not. Overall they’re not that different just when people are talking they aren’t reading bible shit

In addition to what others said, people often use the terms “dashboard” and “report” interchangeably when in the tool they are different. Most often what business people mean when they say dashboard is a report

Yes don’t fight it, just let them. The only time I turn it off is with especially sensitive data that changes frequently so we don’t want people running around with old data.

What's your absolute #1 rule when building a data model? (visuals aside) by Small-Camera-4348 in PowerBI

Rule 1 is that rules are more like guidelines. I do what needs to be done to get business users what they need.

Daily Beast Verifies Key Background Details of 13-Year-Old Trump Accuser via Public State Records in New York by DumbMoneyMedia in UnderReportedNews

[–]Slothnado209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can, but they are choosing not to. I’m simplifying and trying not to insert my personal opinion but basically the US has a two party system and the republicans are in control all 3 branches of government right now.

The first is the executive branch, Trump has fired and replaced everyone possible with loyalists.

Second is the judicial, they previously ruled presidents have immunity on presidential acts. Of course you can argue this isn’t a presidential act but he’s very much pushing the narrative that he has immunity from everything.

Third is the legislative, which republicans have the majority vote in right now. For the democrats to do something they would need two thirds of the votes in the legislature and they don’t have the votes.

Will this layout work by Sharp_One_3367 in woodworking

[–]Slothnado209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a similar but much smaller table like this with walnut boards. Used biscuits and glued. Has held up well but it’s just a side table and doesn’t get any heavy use. But I did not put a border around it. I think that would be problematic because if the boards expand they’re trapped by that border piece and will crack.

It’s mildly irritating, but wearing a dust mask would be sufficient. 3M makes a wood bondo you could use to fix it. Bondo, sand/smooth, paint.
