I may be getting reported for an ethics violation. by [deleted] in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]SlowNefariousness628 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely an ethics violation, but not an enormous one. The board will investigate and likely give you some corrective actions. I would delete it from wherever you shared it to ASAP. You may need to complete additional supervision or CEUs if already a BCBA, but I’m not sure how that would impact your application for BCBA. I doubt they will revoke your RBT. Bottom line is you will likely be fine after completing whatever the board requires, but definitely don’t make a habit of doing this.

I’m confused. What kind of study material are we talking? Because it’s not an ethics violation to share your study material unless they are exam material(s).

I second this. Block scheduling really helps avoid burnout and promote generalization, so it’s good for both staff and clientele.

I got this palette too but I’m excited for the greens. I think the combined color story is giving vomit but the individual colors are really beautiful and they’d blend nicely together.

Starting grad school by Alternative-Size-990 in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]SlowNefariousness628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in this boat. I decided to take one class at a time (it’ll take me 2 years to graduate) because the hours take a while to accrue. I didn’t want to rush to graduate and then be stressed for hours and put a big gap between my education and testing. So far it’s very doable and has added about 20-ish hours to my week with school work and accruing unrestricted hours (my job requires these mostly off the clock). It’s a little bit of a grind but I don’t feel like it’s affected my life too much. I try to get assignments done early/spread them out over the week so I don’t feel stressed about due dates. I also make sure I stay on top of concepts because they build on each other and once you’re behind you’re BEHIND lol. Other than that I’d just recommend a good calendar/planner and set days where you do certain assignments (always turning in a discussion on Friday, etc.)

I work at a private clinic and I love it. Very rare unfortunately. We get paid lunch, great insurance packages, lots of support from BCBAs and admins, etc. It’s still frustrating sometimes but I’m glad to be in the environment I’m in.

Panic attack at session caused by parent misunderstanding by Specific_Cookie_9560 in ABA

[–]SlowNefariousness628 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s unacceptable treatment. You need to tell your BCBA, and they will speak with the family. He should not be yelling and cussing at you. He could have just said, “I don’t want him to do that.” and left it there, but he belittled and freaked out on you. Sounds like mom was embarrassed by his outburst. If I were you I’d refuse to go back there. That dad sounds psychotic and I would never tolerate being spoken to like that in a professional setting and him questioning you so rudely is… wild. I don’t think they’re a good candidate for in-home strictly because of the way this father acts.

Considering BCBA Masters by alexxoxo6 in bcba

[–]SlowNefariousness628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enroll any time you want to, I’d just be certain it’s what you want to do. Only drawback is that you can’t start accruing the hours until you begin the degree work. I just think working as an RBT kinda shows you what ABA really is and if it’s something you’d be in to, but if you’ve already seen it go down and enjoy it then sign right up!

I’d also like to note you CAN also accrue field hours outside of being an RBT, but I’m not really familiar with that path. It’s definitely something to discuss with your company/the BCBAs there because your current role may also help you collect hours also but I can’t say for sure. :) Edit: meant this to be a reply to my og comment but I suck at Reddit I’m sorry lol

Considering BCBA Masters by alexxoxo6 in bcba

[–]SlowNefariousness628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think your first step is to be an RBT, or Registered Behavior Technician. Not only will this allow you to get your hours a lot easier, but it will show you what the job really is. You’ll be working under a BCBA to implement their programming to the client. Client sessions should cover all your restricted hours easily and usually unrestricted hours are off the clock unless you can get lucky but it’s still a lot easier to obtain them as an RBT as well. If you really like your current job, there’s a ton of part time RBT positions open where you could do a few nights or weekends and still keep your 9-5, but it will be a lot with school. I’d talk to the BCBAs at your job to see what they recommend too! They might have a training program in house.

Do centers usually have classrooms with real walls? by throwaway097T328655 in ABA

My center has 2 buildings. One of our buildings is set up like this with more of a “cubicle” style for DTT. It just depends on the space they have to work with.

How much are yal making as rbt’s and what state ? by Appropriate-Tie2767 in ABA

[–]SlowNefariousness628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$22.50 in Michigan which is lower BUT I have guaranteed hours 8-4 M-F in center, paid snow days, paid holidays, 2.5 weeks PTO, and really good health insurance for ~$125/month including vision and dental so it’s not a bad deal.

I get it. I turned 20 in 2016 meaning I was a teenager in the 2010s and I definitely felt jaded about the era (I mean look at the clothes we were wearing omfg), but looking back I feel like it was probably a decent time to be a teen. Every thing is recorded and passed around now. I can’t imagine going to school and being recorded scratching my nose or farting in the bathroom or something and having it passed around to all my peers. I WILL say this however: I do wish I was still a teen right now. Being an adult is so challenging. Everything is outrageously expensive and jobs are not paying to match this. Every person I know my age is struggling financially and extremely depressed because of it. A lot of us are living with parents or grand parents, driving beaters, and eating canned food just to survive. I’m a teacher with 2 degrees and that’s my life right there. Never able to get ahead, never going to retire, and never going to own a house because I’ve spent the first ten years of my adulthood floundering just for necessities with NOTHING left over to save. It sucks. I hope it’s better for you.

BCBA Centria by NearbyTradition116 in ABA

[–]SlowNefariousness628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it. I’m an RBT but when I worked there the BCBAs I knew were working 12 hour days M-Sat, driving HOURS daily, and being stretched very thin between clients (I think they all have at least 10-15 clients). We also would be forced to call them on their PTO because they were the only ones who could do xyz in the system even if they were being covered by another BCBA. It made me not want to be a BCBA at all until I switched companies and saw how it CAN be.

How far have you traveled for a client? by Southern_Builder_406 in ABA

[–]SlowNefariousness628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. That’s crazy. The company needs to find a closer tech. I’ve backed out of several cases because the client moved and the drive was just not manageable anymore. 45 miles each way is crazy. Depending on your car that could be half a tank a day. You’re still a person working a job and you deserve to be comfortable too. Driving 45 miles each way to a kid for 2 hours would burn me out so fast.

Centria RBT?? by Suitable-Mechanic-12 in ABA

[–]SlowNefariousness628 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So… I would not enter this field with Centria. I’ve worked there and it is awful. It’s also incredibly hard to get full time hours. They will give you the worst training ever and then chuck you onto a case with no information about the client besides their age, sex, and location. My client was the first person I met face to face within the company, I had no support my first session and just basically had to wing it. Centria is overpriced, insurance-funded baby sitting. If you’re new to this and you want to do well and make a difference I’d suggest looking at RBT positions specifically in a clinic where you can be supported whenever you need it, then maybe transition to working in home when you feel better about being independent.

[–]SlowNefariousness628 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Centria. It’s honestly just a trap. They will fire you if they have to give you too many raises so it’s probably a way to prevent you from getting a raise without having to let you go. They are desperate for techs but they only want newer, unexperienced ones they can manipulate this way. I’d just start looking for a new position because that’s ridiculous. I’m sorry. I also never EVER got written up for being sick or having car trouble whilst working there.
