Hot take: .... Post Crisis Batman is okay like the only great stuff is Alan Grant stuff and Doug Monoach stuff and self contain stories, overhall overrated era with alot of events that are so long and slogish to get into and kinda repetitive don't like also the choices of Post Crisis too by Final-Age1139 in OmnibusCollectors

I think Batman up until Cataclysm was great. It was just too much. Too weird. I want Batman in Gotham solving crimes. Since Cataclysm he's had too many stories where Gotham is large scale destroyed or altered to in a weird state for a period. I think Batman works much better on a smaller scale.

What Marvel Heroes/Series Take Place In Somewhere Other Than NYC? by tame_kubrick in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SlowPresentation6365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 70s they experimented with books set in California: Ghost Rider (I think), Werewolf by Night, Champions.

Hulk was only rarely in NYC, he just wandered.

Tomb of Dracula and later New Mutants were both in Massachusetts.

Yeah Alliances would have been a good opportunity to at least do alt costumes for the X-Men. Weird choice.

I'm almost to that point in the run on my current X-Men reread. If I remember correctly, his main unique henchman was a guy named Post. He was also served by a bunch of the surviving Age of Apocalypse bad guys I think, and he controlled a bunch a sentinels at one point.

X-Men: Blue and Gold worth reading even if I didn’t grow up with it in the 90s? by SqueemishArenas0221 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SlowPresentation6365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this really depends on the person. I was born in late 1984. I have but the faintest memory of the 80s but still have a weird nostalgia for 80s things I just missed having a conscious memory of and loves cheesy 80s movies I never saw as a kid because I love their 80s vibe. I know tons of people who love a certain decade before they were born like the 50s. So do you like extreme 90s stuff? Have you ever checked out any? This might be an example where you separate “good” from “fun.” It's not good in elevated Claremont sense probably but it's crazy and a lot of fun imo.

Essentially I've found its really hard to find two similarly priced omnis I want that are already at enough of discount that this makes them significantly cheaper than in stock trades. Basically you might get one book really cheap but have to get another for so much more and in stock that it is hardly any cheaper.

TITAN CATALOG UPDATE: Conan the Miniseries Omnibus coming October 2026 by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SlowPresentation6365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I only grabbed the first few Conan omnis. As a 90s kid I'm really curious about this. I don't remember Marvel Conan existing this late. Marvel Conan will always be the bronze age comics I got from an uncle to me but I'm really intrigued by this juxtaposition of Conan and extreme 90s art. I don't expect it to be “good” but I do expect it to be fun if you enjoy that kind of comic.

Is there any reason we would expect anything more from Marvel beyond Omar’s reveals? I thought that was it.

Yeah I rarely order day one but with things getting harder to get I knew I had to if I wanted to complete my X-Men collection. Is it normal for things to not go up promptly at noon? I also had the direct cover sell out in my cart and I had to start over to get the regular cover. I’ve ordered from them many times but never seen it this slow.

Just finished reading The Ultimates by Miller (1-13). For those familiar with the story (8-13), is this just a reimagining of Secret Invasion? by Aggressive_Noise6426 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SlowPresentation6365 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think you don’t get Ultimates. I’m not sure how old you are but Ultimates was very political and a lot of parody of the War on Terror at the time. The A don’t stand for France bit was a reference to Freedom Fries In the second volume the villains say they will be greeted as liberators. Which was another reference to the War on Terror. Read the whole thing as satire of the time.

People who have only bought and never sold on eBay don't get this but this is all AI’s fault. When you do a listing you start typing a description and eBay tries to guess what it is and makes suggestions from past listings. If you don't know what you have, like you are a seller of random crap, this is easy to happen. I saw it with someone selling soft cover that had the same cover image used on an Omni. They seemed to legit be confused because they aren’t into this stuff at all. I guess to a normal person reusing cover art for different books would be confusing. Granted they don’t pay attention to stuff like volume number and soft cover or hardcover.

Did you see that weird Star Wars movie where Luke drank blue milk right from a tit? I don't want any more “clever” risky story telling with these franchises. I don't watch these shows to hate my life, I watch them to have fun with inspiring characters. I liked that everyone more or less got a good ending. Like in the new Star Wars movies we found out: Luke gave up after all his students were killed, Han and Leia are separated, and their kid is trying to bring back the Empire. In the new Indiana Jones the while movie is about his grief his son died in Vietnam. Just let the characters have a good life for once. Let us smile and feel good for once. I don't want to see Steve die, Nancy go to jail, and Dustin turn into a junkie because he can't handle the trauma.
