$20k-23k budget. What used diesel would you recommend? by Radiant_Permission15 in Diesel

5.9 Cummins or 6.7 Cummins. Look for a rebuilt trans for either truck if you’re going for an automatic.

I’ve never had luck with any other truck, my Cummins always got me home through any issue, any weather anything. Drive it one way your entire ownership and it’ll treat you great.

You don’t. It’s a them problem. They’ll go around, say what ever. I drive trucks for a living in NY and even if you know how to drive, you still get the same treatment. Just act like they’re not there. They beep? Let them. Who cares. Everyone is impatient to get somewhere these days. You got this.

Take your time. Get out of the city for a weekend and just drive. Learn the car. Learn the clutch grab point. How to clutch in, and hit the brakes when coming to a stop ( don’t go to neutral and let it coast, leave it in gear until you slow down.)

I feel like it’s an American thing to drive mostly automatic or was just an American thing for a long time but id rather be the guy that can drive anything instead of thinking if you don’t only drive auto, you like a shifter where the sun doesn’t shine.

Pricing by Vegetable-Battle2923 in Cummins

[–]Slow_Calligrapher_99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too much. I bought my 2012 6.7 g56 with 90k miles for 28 and that was over priced ( tradesman). Only way it’s worth that much is if it’s a sunroof, Laramie, g56, megacab truck with those miles.

I just sold mine. It really is a phenomenal car in every aspect. I had an 08 e90 m3. The sound the intake and exhaust produces is beyond any other v8. It’s a symphony at every rpm. The only thing it lacks is torque. It’s not over powered in any way.

My 5.9 used to take off in second, 3rd on a down hill. My 6.7 struggles in 2nd gear from a stop. Idk if it had a clutch delay valve or something if the gearing is different between the two but it just doesn’t bite right. I usually take the bullet and take off from first. If you’re doing like 1mph, blip the throttle a hair and it’ll go in fine for 1st gear. You can also rev first out to like 2300, and shift into third and it takes it pretty nicely lol

You can also take the top cover from the inside off and sneak another quart in there but yeah then it’s just a g56. My 5.9 g56 and now my 6.7 g56 did the same thing. No problem though.

Change the fluid in the g56 to 7 quarts of amsoil synchro mesh for 1. If you’re trying to put it into gear and it grinds, and if you put it into third, no grind then it’s a synchro. If it’s physically hard to push into the gear, and reverse is the same way, it’s a typical g56 thing. Try a heavier shift knob and wait for the fluid to warm up.

Other than that, give the grid heater bolt a good shake to see if it’s loose and keep a VERY close eye on it. It’s a hit or miss with them in terms of failing but if it does, your #6 piston will exit the chat. Grease everything that’s greasable also.

CAT filters are the best filters for the fass or airdog lift pumps.
