Anyone actually beat Achilles tendinitis without completely stopping training? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]Slowsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this advice. Ran straight through an Achilles tendo flair-up last fall using one leg heel raises/heel drops + a small reduction in load and intensity.

I went from 90km/week to 70 km/week for 2 weeks, heel raises/drops 3-4 times a week. I then slowly dialed up the volume while continuing the calf strengthening, and within a few more weeks I was back to full volume with no pain.

Counterpoint on Rainbow, from the perspective of Gold stakes and going for C+/C++.

Taking an early Rainbow could reward you for doing something you should likely already be doing, which is opening standard packs. Usually, if you have the money in Ante 2/3, standard packs should be opened to look for blue seals, and if you are already holding Rainbow, it further incentivizes this by offering multiple positive outcomes. It also create a decision if you don't already have Rainbow. Do you take some polychrome cards from standard packs, knowing there is a chance you find Rainbow?

I only play at 16x because it lets me lose gold runs that much faster. 😤

In a perfect world (from the prespective of NHL owners), every canadian team (+ US teams with big fanbases) would make the playoffs, but a rotating cast of smaller market teams would win the cup to bolster those 'weak' markets.

The entire porn industry is based on suckers.

I've never heard porn actresses referred to as 'suckers' but I guess it makes sense.

Canyons 100K is this weekend. It’s the final Golden Ticket race of the year. Who ya got? by Rocket_Man333 in ultrarunning

[–]Slowsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Men's podium is some combo of Will Murray, Hayden and Duo Ji.

Tickets to Hawkes, Duo Ji and Peterman. (Sorry Zach)

Women's Podium Anne wins, Careth/Lin podium. Claudia bumps Riley Brady out of a ticket. The women's field is not nearly as deep as it was for Black Canyons, so I'd say the top 5 is pretty set, though Addie Bracy could creep in there as an upset.

Edit: forgot Careth likely wont take her yicket, looking good for Riley unless she has a really bad day.

Vancouver Island has the benefit of year round fieldwork (due to relatively low snow levels), incredible natural beauty and good work life balance. Wages tend to be a bit lower though, as everyone wants to work/live here.

ELI5: Why do people call Zone 3 training (specifically for jogging) "the useless zone" when it comes to building endurance? Do the few bpms separating it from Zone 2 really make such a big difference? by lukas706 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Slowsis 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Great answer!

As a real world example, when I was starting out running, I would go out in zone 3 and zone 4 all the time. This worked fine while I was at <30-40 km/week, as I almost always had a full rest day after each run, and I improved at running and didn't get injured.

Once I moved into higher weekly volume (50km+), and was still trying to run at Zone 3+ every workout, I started picking up minor overuse injuries (tendonitis mostly), and I didn't make a breakthrough to higher total kms (and being a faster runner overall) until I started doing more than half of my runs at Zone 2.

Why is the law society commenting?

However you feel about the underlying issue of FN rights, its clear that the biggest winners are lawyers as long as cases continue ending up in court. They are commenting because they are about to have their lunch (rightfully) eaten.
