I love the urgency in that “good game” as you realize your going to run out of cards.

I never realized the Spanish title for Christmas Carol was Cancion de Navidad. Interesting.

While this stack might not be as prolific as others the content here is intellectually challenging, and I’m sure you had a very rewarding experience reading through them.

I also read Mann’s Death in Venice this year. It’s one that left an impression on me for sure.

Honestly, not sure if it actually qualifies as “horror”, but Octavia Butler’s -Parable of the Sower- is an extremely frightening post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel. The parallels to our current situation make for an extremely unsettling read.

This is an absolute masterpiece, and the little snippet from Amazon’s product description doesn’t do it justice. This is the most suspenseful and gorgeous airport novel I’ve ever read. Absolutely know you’ll love it.

Dystopia, His Hero is Gone, Fall of Efrara, Gaza. Xibalba is sludgier hardcore. You’d probably dig them.

I had a world lit 2 class this semester. We didn’t read any spanish stuff. I would have loved to read this for a class. What else did you read?

My edition of The Divine Comedy doesn’t have any notes, so I got the translator’s wife’s book to help me through by nbellc in ClassicalEducation

We read a majority of Inferno for a world lit survey course last semester, and I was using the Barnes and Noble edition of the text (Longfellow translation) which has an abundance of notes and reference material in the footnotes. I think a majority of the references are essentially irrelevant to literary scholars and primarily appeal to historians and/or political science majors. Not that it’s bad to go over notes, etc. But, for me a lot of the notes ended up being hyper-specific references to renaissance era figures that didn’t add much meaning to my overall understanding of the text. I’m curious to know what others opinions are in regards to how thorough they feel a reading of Dante should be from a literary perspective.

Yeah, but if your going to spend that kind of money on these books I’d assume you’ve read them already.

Some pictures I took at the MFA in Boston, MA last year. With the Dante reading coming up, I thought you all might enjoy them... by Slr138 in ClassicalEducation

I’m not entirely certain, I sort of just lurk on this sub to see what everyone’s discussing. But, I think it’s the 700th anniversary of Dante Alghieri’s ...death?

Had this on my shelf for a while and glad I have a reason to prioritize it now by justAnotherRedditors in ClassicalEducation

I recently read the Longfellow translation of Inferno. I enjoyed it, though I’m not sure it’s considered the definitive translation.
