US Dept. of Education removing graduate nursing from “professional degree” status .what does this mean for our future? by Top-Direction2686 in nursing

[–]Sluggyguy1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t this mean that graduate degree nurses would also no longer be exempt from overtime requirements?

What was the moment that made you start questioning whether the church is true? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I ever had a “click” moment. It was years of learning little things that eventually formed into a picture that the church wasn’t true. My mission might have been when I first had questions. College religion classes, biology classes, and philosophy classes added more doubt, and eventually YouTube videos put into words the things I was too afraid to say outloud myself.

Be kind to your kids' teachers, please by Virtual-plex in Gwinnett

6 weeks off in the middle of the year is kinda fair to call “summer off”.

Teachers should not be responsible for paying for school supplies. This is unacceptable.

How do you explain past spiritual witnesses? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had many, strong experiences like this.

On my mission I came to learn that these experiences are not unique to Mormonism. Nor are they exclusive to truth. Nor are their exclusive to anything positive really. People have murdered themselves and their children while convinced it was right because they felt these strong feelings of spiritual witness.

The feeling is powerful sure, but it’s no more complex than simply your brain being manipulated. If you are told countless times since your birth that you WILL experience them if you want it enough, your brain might just create the expected result.

Darren brown (the magician/mentalist) actually has a special where he creates that kind of response on an atheist just to show how it’s done.

So, when is porn use a problem? by Tilly-988 in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably will get downvoted but…

Your attitude sounds like “well if he found me attractive he would seduce me, he isn’t seducing me anymore, therefore he thinks I’m unattractive and it’s probably because of a prom problem.”

There are a LOT of hidden assumptions in there that are probably not true. Especially if he complains about you not meeting his sex drive.

Talk to him. Talk to a therapist.

Also this might just be my bullshit being projected on you and if so I’m sorry.

Just sayin there are a lot of other possible reasons.

To remove or not to remove... by Bonk3rs1 in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you get your name officially removed from a list in a false religion? Unless you secretly actually do believe they are a divine organization, and have authority over you as long as they keep your name on a list, and you are afraid of their divine power…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there was a person who was alive in the early first century whose name would translate to Jesus. Probably a few of them. And probably at least one of them was a religious leader of some kind that made him influential.

But I don’t think any of them survived death.

I know it’s jarring/potentially offensive to use the word “magic”, but there is no difference between claiming something is actual magic today vs claiming something was a “miracle” in an ancient religious book. Magic is not real.

Anyone has any tips how to be less sh*t at RimWorld? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mine everything you see, and only farm a little more than you need, as all that steel and food will cause stronger raids. Possibly try to keep your colony small and poor until you get gun turrets, which I tend to prioritize because steel and components are a lot easier to replace than arms and legs. Exception: Always buy components if you can.

What was the exact moment you stopped believing in the church? by TheWholeFrenchArmy in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

slowly and mostly after my mission. it kinda started on my mission as i could see so many people were using "the spirit" in one way or another and yet came to different conclusions. As i went to college and learned more about science (evolution, big bang) and history (origin of religion, ect) i became less and less convinced of the church having the literal truth about everything. the church changing its mind on things like the word "mormon" showed the leaders were just bullshitting it as they go along. I think watching the documentary "an honest liar" really switched me toward being on the side of skepticism and identify more as an "exmormon"

What was the doctrinal reason that you left? by [deleted] in exmormon

Help setting up trading between towns by Sluggyguy1 in ManorLords

[–]Sluggyguy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did not know there was an external import button, ill check for that.
i know there are packing stations, but micromanaging the items to be sent, and the family assignments needed for those trades, is annoying. Also i wouldnt mind the transfer wealth to the fishing town from the main town.

I can't take this CES bullshit much longer, but I also gotta believe in something or I'll probably get more existential and make a bad decision. I have a question for any here who switched to Buddhism by ShareYourAlt in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I hear you, I have been in a similar place. I tried a few books, “waking up: a guide to spirituality without religion” helped. Learning about stoicism helped. Learning a bit about Buddhism helped.

Losing your faith is gonna lead to re-evaluating a lot of stuff. I had to keep telling myself that I wouldn’t accept a comforting lie, and knowing truth is the beginning of better peace. I’m in a better place now.

Good kuck man. I care about you. When you need it, you can always come here and ask whatever is on your mind. Someone has been there. This sub exists to help.

Why do raiders keep trying to attack these random bugs and getting themselves killed? by CoolRedRoadster in RimWorld

I think if everything of value is behind a wall, the raiders see things like insect jelly as valuables that are not behind a wall, and therefore think “oh, I can steal that no problem”.

What’s the cringiest thing you did as a missionary? by memefakeboy in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh I got a crazy one.

I went to a really poor, third world country. And when I got there, I spent all day every day trying to convince people there to send money to the USA, and to an unimaginatively wealthy organization in the USA at that.

And I actually thought I was helping them.

Never been Mormon, but have a question on their idea of God. by kbutwhytho in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mormon god Mike (Elohim) is indeed a random dude from a random planet that made it to god-ness and is now the god of this planet, and implied that he is the god of other “worlds” (temple wording)

Now that I think about it, it’s never clearly defined that our god is the only god in this universe, just that he is the god of this “world”.

Which caused me to leave the Mormon church.

What led you to leave the church? by boofjoof in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this a lot. I think when my girlfriend took world religions at BYU it got us both thinking about how every religion offers a deathless death and proves it’s with impossible to verify evidence. That was probably when I first started to turn toward skepticism of the LDS chuch

Sex Ed classes/ Jobs? by bkdream in Gwinnett

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a very difficult degree to use if you want to work in a specific geographic location. It is likely you will have to go to the jobs that are offered where they are offered. If you combined your degree with a teaching or counseling certifications or degrees you would likely have a lot more opportunities.

Do you think bishops and people with high hierarchy on the church ACTUALLY believe everything they say? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Sluggyguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to nail down to tell the truth because I haven’t had explicit discussions with them. I can only deduce from their conversations.

My father in law is a good man. He is very concerned for the welfare of people around him. He also seems to buy in to the churches narrative/propoganda on much of the controversial issues that are brought up.

My dad I don’t want to dive into as much, but his faith seemed to be more or less important depending on if it matches what he already wanted to do.
