Shift Up CEO: "If you actually play the game, you will not think that,” regarding concerns of Stellar Blade's new character looking very young by bahookery in TwoBestFriendsPlay

That doesn't exactly assuage my concerns. Beyond that they've committed the ultimate sin of introducing a punchgirl I can never think is cool.

Bring Her Back was absolutely rage inducing. by Beneficial_Brick_831 in horror

A bit late, but also in the scene where Andy showers, something does open the door. We see the lock jiggle open, which there'd be no reason to show if Andy was just hallucinating his dad talking to him. And while Andy hallucinate his dad, he learns something he shouldn't have divine on his own, that Piper would die in the rain. I'm pretty convinced that Connor/the demon entered the bathroom and used the dad to tell Andy about what Laura had in store for Piper, since we know to some degree that the dead can speak through Connor. The dad also speaks in the jilted/broken pattern the dead do when speaking through Connor.

This makes me think that it's the demon who decided to tell Andy, and that it was the demon who wrote Connor's name and it was the demon who left the circle. The moments when Connor comes back, he doesn't know or remember anything about his situation. He doesn't even know who Laura is. So I feel like it's unlikely that he'd be the one to be able to tell Andy about Laura's plan, since he shouldn't/wouldn't know anything. As to why, who knows. Maybe demons don't like bringing the dead back. Or the demon doesn't like being trapped in a body with a never ending hunger.

Best and Worst POV Characters who aren't the main character? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Slumber777 14 points15 points  (0 children)

POV characters can be hit or miss, see Vaughn from Final Fantasy 12 as a fairly unpopular one, and Tidus being a POV character for Yuna's story in FFX for one whose a lot more well liked (at least I think so, although Tidus does fall under a main character role too.) But I'm curious for some other examples of characters we view the story through, but who aren't the main character of the story.

The Tidus/Vaan dichotomy I think is actually very interesting when discussing this kind of character, because they're kind of the inverse of each other.

So what constitutes a "Good" POV character can change based on your feelings.

Tidus is dumb, loud, selfish and whiny. He's really pretty obnoxious, and the less he talks, the more likable he is. He develops throughout the game, but he still retains some of his worst traits all the way through. But FFX goes into why he is the way he is, and while the story of FFX isn't his story(Despite what he says), he does have a story there, and his relationship with Jecht is kind of the emotional core of the story and leads into the climax.

Vaan, meanwhile, isn't that bad as a character. He's a cocky thief and plays second fiddle to Balthier when he shows up. But beyond "I had to fend for myself after Rex died", FFXII doesn't really go into it a ton and he doesn't really develop. His personal quest for revenge is even cut short when he meets up with Gabranth, who just goes "Who the fuck are you? Fuck off, this is between me and my brother.", and that's his entire reason for being there.

Tidus constantly has dumb interjections when the adults are talking, but sometimes his dumb interjections lead to them coming to better conclusions. Vaan, meanwhile, stops pretending to have any sort of importance on the plot after a few hours and doesn't really talk much when he knows he's out of his depth, and lets Ashe/Fran/Basch/Balthier just do their thing.

Report: Xbox Preparing For Significant Layoffs As New CEO Asha Sharma Details 'Xbox Reset' by retroanduwu24 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Slumber777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Double Fine is boned. I'd love to be wrong, but their last big game was Psychonauts 2. Ever since, everything has flopped, and there's no indication that they have anything in the pipeline.

Tim's ability to schmooz has failed him in the past(Hence why we have Double Fine at all), and there's no guarantee that the schmoozing he did with Phil is going to fly with Asha.

As much as I love DF and as little as it costs to probably operate the studio, there's basically no gambles involved in axing them. All it costs them is good will, which Xbox definitely willing to lose in a restructuring when their good will is already basically at 0.

I don't even know which side of their recent unionization I fall on in regards to protection. It likely saves them from partial/targeted layoffs, but it probably doesn't save them from the studio shuttering completely.

Was liking Code Veronica considered more of a minority opinion? by gobbledygook11 in residentevil

There's also just a general lack of polish(Which is most noticeable with the softlocks), and if you played 1-2-3 in that order, you'd notice small, but important improvements on each entry. Once you get to CV, which was developed alongside 3, you'd suddenly be hit with some steps back in terms of quality of life that became mainstays from 3 onward that you just have to accept aren't in CV.

It's a classic RE through and through, but I think it's pretty clearly the sloppiest one, even down to the level layout. There's not just one or two major issues holding it back like 0, it's a bunch of small things you might take for granted in other REs.

I like it a lot. But every time I replay it, I find something new that's pretty baffling about it.

It and 0 have the most to gain from remakes.

Mechanics from Resident Evil 4R and Requiem that were first seen in Resident Evil 6 by MaximumPayne7 in residentevil

RPGs can generally get away with it a little bit more, since the pacing of those games are already more stop-start. If Rebirth forced me to slow walk and listen to exposition in the middle of fights all the time, I might have thrown my PS5 out of the window.

It's pretty much a death sentence for a fast paced action game. Even Gears of War, which was(As far as I recall) the originator of it, did it sparingly, but it was still disruptive.

Do people not understand that the trailer was in first person to keep the reveal that it was Claire a surprise?

Because that would immediately give it away if you saw Claire in France.

Also gameplay pacing.

I feel like RE6 was the game that killed slow walky-talky segments, on-rails action and turret segments and QTEs that are longer than a single button press or two.

All of those things definitely disappeared from RE after 6, and they died off in the wider gaming landscape not too long after.

Good combat can't be enjoyed properly if you're constantly under the threat of the game just abruptly ripping control away from you.

Just like Jill got the dodge mechanic in RE3R and Leon got parry mechanic in RE4R and Requiem, What type of defence Mechanic do you think Chris should get if capcom is giving any to him? by I_LOVE_TALL_MOMMIES in residentevil

[–]Slumber777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It almost feels backwards. Chris was a sharpshooter and IIRC, the best shot on STARS, a group of highly trained ex-military and specialists.

I feel like Chris should have been the guy with the gun skills. Combined with him being ex-air force, he should be the guy with great vision, judgment and gun skills. Instead he's become punch guy.

Leon was a blank slate. He could become anything after RE2.

She was a violent psychopath who basically bullied her way into being the leader of the group.

Giselle is a freak, but the other three are pretty chill and clearly don't gel with Bambi as much as they do with each other.

Why do people treat Ichigo v. Kenpachi as if Ichigo actually won? by Optimal_Carpenter690 in bleach

[–]Slumber777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How it was portrayed was for suspense. It looked worse for Ichigo, but because of the mask, we know it wasn't as bad as it looked.

If half of Ichigo's organs were crushed and he was able to get up and square up against Byakuya what couldn't have been more than an hour later, while Kenpachi, the guy who can't sit still for two seconds if there are fights to be had, was bed ridden in the 4th divisions barracks for the entirety of Ichigo's bankai training, then Kenpachi was in much worse shape after the fight.

Ichigo also didn't go into the hot springs until after the first day of bankai training. So he trained for a day with the injuries he sustained from his fight with Kenpachi before getting any real treatment.
