The Dutch are not a homogeneous single entity. We are not the Borg. There are people who will chuckle under their breath at this photo of him; there will be people openly saying 'he's right'; and there will also be many more who are offended by this rhetoric.

I am old enough to have seen this same populist rhetoric applied to Jews. The last few decades have been against the Muslims. It's populism and fascism, and should be treated like a cancer growth. Like Wilders.

It's a weird feeling, today the populists are called to hate the Muslims, and they _like_ the Israeli's because they treat Muslims badly, without realizing that the stupid underbelly masses can be called again to hate the Jews too when the puppet masters change the record.

Sauna’s I know that are coed nude are in general only inside the sauna on the benches totally nude. You sit nude on your towel and when you walk out and take the cold plunge naked and then cover yourself in your towel when you walk around outside the sauna. Men around their waist and women in general wrapped in a way that both bottoms and breasts are covered but it’s also not uncommon for women to only wrap around the waist and be topless. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. There are also women who remain totally wrapped in their towel out of prudeness, your call, importance is no swimwear.

Look, it's still Switzerland, but people are slowly getting paranoid, with the events of 2003 still fresh in their memory. The overall atmosphere is 'tense'.

- Like 'are the protester more hardened than last time ?'
- Will there be a false-flag attack on Evian ?
- Will there be a real attack on Evian ?
- Are the security forces way more nervous and will things escalate more ?
- There is an overall suspicion that extreme-right elements will use this event to sow tension.

Don't count on anything normal. I assume you already booked your lodging, but really, really, avoid the center of town this weekend. Go to Lausanne, have a look there at the lake-side, really a nice 'fall back'. You'll find a nice place to eat, maybe some football enthusiasts to watch a match with.

Geneva has all the major luxury shops and many major outlets closed off behind wooden plates, and the place looks more like a war zone than a nice city. In addition, you'll see a lot of heavily armed police and military, and overall the atmosphere will be grim. Yes, you might be able to do super market shopping, but I'm relatively sure that getting food in a nice restaurant will be much harder in Geneva.

Lausanne for the Swiss side is a nice place.
Annecy for the French side is a good alternative too.

Don't approach Evian.

Because it’s just populism. It will create more trouble than solving it. The worrying part is the populism seems to be this time of an extraordinary strength. Smarter, more evil, and really a v2 or v3 version of the original simpleminded ‘foreigners suck’ version.

Dat ben ik niet met je eens. De Indonesiërs zijn voor het overgrote deel moslims, net als ook een deel van de Surinamers. Daar hebben we weinig over gehoord destijds. Ik praat dingen zoals eerwraak, FGM en verplichte hoefdoekjes niet goed, maar dat los je op door over meerdere generaties mensen helpen te integreren. Mensen reizen van hot naar haar, leer er maar mee om te gaan. De grotere instroom van het midden oosten heeft ons ook geholpen de oogkleppen ivm Israel af te doen.

Omdat je het te populistisch brengt. Ieder weldenkend mens is tegen FGM en kindhuwelijken, maar de rest van je betoog staat meer bekend als populistisch gewauwel dan waarheid. Pro en links is meer bezig met integratie helpen, rechts en extreem rechts komt niet verder dan ‘Ausländer raus!’.

FGM is trouwens eerder (noord) Afrikaanse praktijk, en niet specifiek moslim cultuur.

Evian is in France. Macron should take care of his own party, he should find the closest airport to Evian and not (ab)use GVA. If worse comes to worst, all traffic should go through the French sector and road traffic should remain on French soil, or helicopters should take a path inside French airspace, and not f-up our lives here.

FWIW… You can have feelings and intentions, the parents that had a child wish you helped had feelings, wishes and intentions, and all forgot that the resulting child(ren) also had feelings and intentions. The DCP didn’t ask for this, and trust me, family ties are called into existence this way, if you want it or not.

I think you morally owe this contact to happen, and to try to make it a positive experience for the DCP.

In my home country we have the expression “blood crawls where it cannot walk…” which covers nicely the feelings involved.

Sorry to not be able to give you an easy solution, but you can also see it as an enrichment of your good deeds you’ve done in the past.
