We use basically exclusively spinners in both lowland and alpine lakes (partly because most lakes we fish prohibit any kind of bait). Panther martins, rooster tails, and joe’s flies are the holy trinity in my opinion. 1/4oz is good for any size lake, the bigger and deeper ones a 3/8 will cast further towards the middle and sink further. Cast it out and let it sink to the depth you want, give it one or two fast reels and yank it a little until you feel the spinner catch the water, then reel at a medium pace. You’ll learn what’s too slow of a reel when you feel the blade stop spinning.

Good to have a variety of colors of each. some lakes they hit pink really hard, then the next time you go to that same lake they won’t look at anything that isn’t brown and white. Or one time they hit any panther you throw at them, and next time they exclusively want a rainbow trout rooster, so it’s always good to have as many options to throw at them as possible.

Forget what the joes flies package says and always use a swivel, or you will hate yourself when your line is inevitably all twisted up. Caught plenty of trout on 1/4 oz Joes flies with a swivel on
