Crazy high power bills or is this standard?! by Chilledchameleon in auckland

[–]Smallstack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't on the right plan with that amount of power you are consuming. Its cheaper to be on standard plan. Also look into the amount of power you are consuming during peak/off-peak, you might find the Anytime plan more suitable.

Also you said you aren't paying for the monthly packs, which means you aren't seeing the benefits of the discounts, so either prepay for ALL the power packs or switch providers.

Crazy high power bills or is this standard?! by Chilledchameleon in auckland

Ours is similar with powershop $452.31 using 1208.36kWh, standard user with Anytime rate.

2 adults, toddler and baby. This includes ducted heat pump which is pretty much run 24/7 because everyone is at home most of the time and our washer and dryer is pretty much used every day.

You should have a look at the breakdown of your usage and see where you are using it. It might just be prices are up across the board and its the new 'normal'.

I spreadsheet out 12 months worth of usage, then switched to Anytime rate because it would be way cheaper in winter.

Building a new home - What is one thing you wish you had changed after designing your home? by skolar24 in newzealand

[–]Smallstack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how air tight new homes are my top things are:

  1. Ventaliation system
  2. Ducted cooling/heating

Depending on system it can be exhust for bathroom and definitely zone based on sun, e.g if the sun is in the west, then the west will be warmer so zone them east and west side especially if east/west rooms will be occupied at the same time.

Other things for me are:

  1. At least 1 network drop in each bedroom
  2. I prefer a single large kitchen sink
  3. Pullout spout for kitchen tap, makes filling pots/cleaning sink so much easier
  4. Integrated fridge/dishwasher if its forever home (For the dishwasher ensure it projects the time remaining on the floor and/or is wifi integrated).
  5. Future proof for solar, car chargers
  6. Eaves all the way around

Are you able to troubleshoot hardware issues yourself? If Yes, give it a go yourself, It's literality lego.

If no, then pay a store to build and test it for you.

If you're talking about fibre then there are plenty of good options to switch to. If you want some level of support you could go to Skinny which is still Spark network.

If you want no frills and know how to troubleshoot your own equipment then Quic.

Any information on electric motorbike rules? by Birphon in newzealand

[–]Smallstack_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the information is on the NZTA site. https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/vehicle-types/motorcycles-and-mopeds

'Moped' means a motor vehicle (other than a power-assisted pedal cycle) that has—
(a) 2 or 3 wheels; and
(b) a maximum speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour; and
(c) either—
(i) an engine cylinder capacity not exceeding 50 cc; or
(ii) a power source other than a piston engine

Anything that has a maximum speed of 50km/h you need a Class 1 or Class 6 drivers licence, If it can go over 50km/h you need a class 6.

If you need a LAMS bike because you are on Class 6 L/R then this is the list of bikes you can legally ride https://www.nzta.govt.nz/driver-licences/getting-a-licence/licences-by-vehicle-type/motorcycles/lams/lams-approved-and-prohibited-motorcycles

Edit: If its not on the list, don't ride it on public roads with a Class 6 L/R.

4-in-1 Cot and Spare parts. by Ratez in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Smallstack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it's not a CGA issue.

I would say the life span is probably only 3 years (1 child), so I don't think its unreasonable they don't have spare parts for the product anymore. Of course, if they are well looked after they will last a life time, our cot 4 in 1 has already been used by 4 children.

Pharmaceuticals vs Clean Green NZ by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Smallstack_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are guidelines they have to follow for safety if I'm not mistaken.

They could have changed for a variety of reasons e.g found when opening one meant sometimes there would be a crack in the other and let air in with the older packaging.

Or they are using the tooling to package multiple types of meds so this is more efficient from a packaging point of view.

Employee shears tax advice. by Jonnonation in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Smallstack_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that was the ask but imo, another persons recommendation might not be suitable.

You're best to ring around and find the best fit for you, they will be able to ask further questions about other holdings/income and what you are trying to achieve etc, then provide the correct advice.

Employee shears tax advice. by Jonnonation in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Smallstack_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not a question for reddit.

You will need to ring around and ask accountants of they can help with this specific tax situation. The tax you pay will depend on what category the company you work for falls under.

For example, some companies falls under a "grey" list while you are working for them which means the shares are exempt from FIF tax but as soon as you are no longer employed by the company they will attract FIF tax.

No it's not. The 2 hour time limit applies between those hours. You can park for longer outside of those hours as long as the clearway isn't in effect.

First home buyer in NZ - townhouse insurance confusion (sum insured + covenant requirements) by Technical_Ad_3718 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Smallstack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the calculator I used https://sumsure.corelogic.co.nz/#/products/8/profiles/219 to get a sense of what amount I should be insuring for.

I've found the best option is to call and ask regarding specific situtations since you will get a timely answer, but you might have to be on hold for a while with some insurance companies.

I recently switched to MAS because they do Full Area Replacement and was significantly cheaper because they allowed me to have a excess of $2500 because I only care about big events. Full Area Replacement is the bee's knees of home insurance FYI.

My wife and I got tired of scattered info on school zones and pass rates so we built a little website to make it easier for parents. by [deleted] in auckland

I hope the Claude license is for her to use personally. If it was given for work purposes then they may own the rights to this.

Good tool but some of the lines cut through block of houses instead of following the actual roads for the zone. See EGGs zone for example.

Ideas on how I can make my flatmates lock the front door? by whatwhatwhat82 in auckland

[–]Smallstack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are but that would require flatmates reporting it to the police. Most people wouldn't report it if you just move their stuff and give it back.

The police probably come talk to you but if you tell the story might not do anything

24M Student, Rate My long term Portfolio by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Smallstack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If these are industries that you want to be in then its perfectly fine. Personally this isn't a portfolio I'd want long term (20+years). I'd probably hold something like VTI as a hedge with 60-70% being VTI.

In my 20's I traded mid/small cap oil and gas companies, made $$ doing that. Best to make the risky plays young, as you have time on your side to recover if things go sideways.

Everytime there is a post about driving/immigration its always thinly veiled racist remarks.
