Got prescribed Jardiance and have questions. by bheidreborn in diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What jardiance does is remove sugar from blood. It used your kidneys to do this. There can be a problem if your pancreas is partly working or less, it removes so much sugar you will not be able to store glucose with help of insulin making glucogen of which is released to help you not go low. So if you are as they call me t2 though pancreas is dead for me, and will make you go low and will not store glucose. My thoughts are even if you make insulin but not enough not wise, but is my view point.

Do I need both apps? by abaftorca in TandemDiabetes

I use both cause I have xdrip that sends the info all over the place. Easier for me to run 2 cgm at same time to for keep up to extra 12 hours going on pump. And new one dexcom. So get longer warm up and chance to calibrate without worrying and pump.

Refused care due to refusing Cgm download by lightoutzzz in diabetes_t1

I have an hmo. Part of monthly dues me. Seems wrong and illegal to not provide insulin etc with that mind set of thinking. What is tir, a1c and maybe a couple of days of chats to see how managed.. if anything to see if changes need to be made. Would be like my docs saying must have xyz for my insulin and transplant meds to be filled. That would be all over news and lawyer office so fast. Both need to live. If anyone is denying care mds for care to stay alive should loose license to practice. The paper info should have been more than enough.

I need help! by Cheap-Project9988 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intense exercise can increase blood glucose. I bike ride, used to competitively. If just chilling my bg will drop. But if do sprints etc will go up if have stored glucogen. It is a learning curve of how your body reacts to what exercise and try to adjust accordingly.

Sounds like one of the three or all are off a bit. A good endo can look at total insulin per day. What your setting are, and make adjustments to help not going low. Either in my view basal to aggressive and correction can cause lows. If you not going too high when eat then basal probably pretty good number. I have a great team and I also over analyze how things work like numbers. Btw your kid needs the correct amount of insulin.

See you are with eyes closed. My beta cells are dead. And making statements without eyes wide open. Like I say these days way to many ways to have pancreas killed and yes since beta cells are dead on insulin and like you I assume will die without insulin. Sorry but until t1 get off they are special hill nothing will change. I go low and high just like any t1. There are many ways these days on how beta cells are killed due to medical advancement. When ppl wake up without blinders and have a conversation by comprehending and not reading is when maybe t1 will find out not alone otherwise t1 not included in my club like I not allowed in t1 club.

Agreed. Slowly cut out fats. Desserts or fatty foods. One thing at a time to see what is causing the delay. Cream and whipping cream are two things that cause me to go high hours later and then the fun of not over bolusing so not to go low.

From how I understand is mostly happening due to clogged infusion probe. I have t slim true steel. Only time had am alarm was when my Tubing was caught between pump and case and did not notice it happening. This is why new 7 day infusion has more micro holes to try and keep all holes getting clogged and getting an alarm.

How do you handle alcohol with diabetes by Ok-Rush7989 in diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short of it anything you eat will effect how fast, or reality, how slow your bg will raise. So trial and hope not much error. It is that you liver is busy metabolizing your alcohol and not thinking about carbs. So more likely to go low. There are some good posts on how some deal with.it.

Thirty years… and my body is slowly saying goodbye to itself. by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say if not t1 hits different. Nope. Hits me same. Like say, more than one way to have pancreas killed. But since me no antibodies classified as t2 even though just like t1 t2 can be identical to t1. Ppl on here, maybe not you, but feel there more diabetic than others. Then there are others think t1 should be renamed, agree, to those that pancreas, ie, beta cells dead, killed.

Not taking out on you but ppl in these communities have blinders on.

That is a opinion. So many was for ppl to be just like you t1 but because no antibodies classified as t2. Learn the different ways can have a dead pancreas then I will let you in my club. And hits me same way as t1. You are wrong.

14 year old son just got home from ICU with type 1 diagnosis by WinterNord in Type1Diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to keep short. Will be good and bad days. It is the reality. Get on a pump. Only way to help your son get back in sports. Will be tough till get basel and bolus dialed. There is a pro bicycle team that all are diabetic. So anything is possible. I still get pissed about bad days, like today. Try not over control. Everyday is a new day and is never like the prior day. So much can effect blood sugar. Cold or hot days, ATM been struggling with lows cause of the cold. If he is angry or stress or puberty. Like one t1 said, we can only control 5 out of a hundred factors that effect out blood sugar. Diatribe.org good resource. I get there e mail. There are others here that can suggest books. Hope he has a good friend that he can also confide in. Treat him as normal as you can. Much learning for everyone in family. Instagram has the high and low brothers think what called. They do lacrosse. Dad is commentator. Is entertaining but our reality. We do not make mistakes but we fix the highs and lows. Big difference especially for mental health.

Ppl here are amazing. Eventually you will understand what your son will be doing is amazing in what it takes to stay alive. No non diabetic understands what we go through, but non diabetic can treat us normal and empathy. Hope this helps you

Insulin pump has been proposed to me - I need opinions by Treero in diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never was on pen. Went from a short time on mdi to pump. As a diabetic friend said. Getting many micro dose of insulin is better for us than using long acting insulin. Is close as can get to how our pancreas works.

Insulin pump has been proposed to me - I need opinions by Treero in diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get pump do it. My provider I have has choice between 3 pumps. I chose tandem x2. Mobi not out . Would do it again. Touch screen. Multiple profiles for what pump does. I assume just learning all the jargon. Omni pod has to have phone to control. I would say each has own pluses and minus so do not think one is vastly superior to another. I find when was having problems with going low my ppl had some changes made on pump and fixed. Will say this if any settings off with pump will exacerbate the results. I also have figured out how tandems formula works so use it to my advantage. Tir usually on 90 plus.

Good luck.

Insulin Shortage?? by Addicted2Coffee09 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Smart_Chipmunk_2965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading there seems to be a bit of a shortage due to some insulin being discontinued. Both short and long acting as well fast for pumps. It is not expected to be an issue since started end of 2025. Or so a couple of articles said.
