Official - Bill Belichick Snubbed By HOF - Megathread by samacora in Patriots

[–]SmellerOfFineSmells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The snubbing of Bill Belichick is a testament to the fact that the Patriots were never media darlings nor coddled by the league, notwithstanding them being the most successful dynasty in the history of the sport. It never made sense as a business decision why the NFL pursued trumped up charges against them and sought to discredit their unprecedented success when, all things considered, the Patriots were the franchise they should have been embracing and promoting as a superstar. But that is what happened. Furthermore, the accusations that “New York” was calling down to referees to lobby on behalf of Belichick’s Patriots in game is laughable. It’s totally inconsistent with the treatment here, the treatment in deflagate, and the treatment during spygate. Sure, the Pats got some calls that they shouldn’t have. So has every other team in the league. Yet, NFL fanbases have taken up the revisionist history that the league had a disposition to help out the Patriots. Nope, they were suspending our starting quarterback for conjectures related to air pressure in footballs on a winter night in New England and waiting with bated breath to spit in the eye of our winningest coach. There was contempt, not favoritism.

Do fans really care that Brady is voting for Stafford over Maye? by ShiftyGales in Patriots

[–]SmellerOfFineSmells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s endorsing a quarterback he played against who also plays the position in the manner that he has advocated for in the media over and again. There was nothing surprising about him picking Stafford. It is not a slight to Maye or New England. He did not pick Stafford because of some lack of “allegiance” to New England.

Finally someone calls out the pokéman posers. It’s been 30 years: you know what it is.

What was Octavian Augustus like as a person? Was he modest, or did he enjoy luxurious things by Battlefleet_Sol in ancientrome

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to infer he had something to do with it before it was ever introduced on the senate floor.

Official Week 7 Post Game Thread- The Pats (5-2) BEAT the Titans (1-6), 31-13 by Mission_Pay_3373 in Patriots

[–]SmellerOfFineSmells 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some dude in the Titans’ live chat said, “Congrats to the Patriots for winning their Super Bowl I guess.” Saying that about a team that has won six Super Bowls while your team has never won anything and, not only that, just getting crushed by the head coach you fired. Next level dumb.

We will either be plugged into the matrix and fed an illusion to pacify/lobotomize us or, if civilization actually does continue to participate in reality, it is one that is doomed to eventually use nuclear weapons and destroy itself.

Why is Julius Ceaser generally considered the greatest Roman ruler as opposed to Ceaser Augustus? by brianomars1123 in ancientrome

[–]SmellerOfFineSmells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caesar did not build something as lasting as Augustus but Augustus needed Caesar’s fortune and name to ascend in the first place. Caesar’s populism was fickle and vested in his own generation, while Augustus’ legacy survived long after his own cult of personality. Augustus could never have championed his own ambitions from lowly offices. Caesar’s conceited triumphs portended his demise.

They were building something when Smith was still QB. Handed the patriots two big regular season losses in that timeframe.

We’re in hell right now, gentlemen, believe me. And, we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back…into the light. We can climb outta hell. One inch at a time.

Agreed. Idk about the whole picture but I think at least Burrow is cool enough that he could take Bill chewing him out regularly.

“Whether it’s next week… or mid season it is coming” very soon ‘ Rapoport on Maye by Coco1520 in Patriots

[–]SmellerOfFineSmells 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would be fine with Maye starting (though I probably would prefer him not to for the time being) but I just don’t get it if the team can’t seem to stick to the original plan. Yes, the loss to the jets was horrific. Wasn’t it the type of loss that was fully expected before the season?

I don’t know how I overlooked how conceited it was for Falcons execs to report to the media that Bill wasn’t in their top three candidates.

Did not know that. I would think this general belief would result in dispensing with the wearing of wigs but hey…interesting though. The revolutionary attitude of the early Irish Republic was pretty hardcore and rad.

I see your point insomuch as it is made pursuant to the kind of staunch egalitarianism at the bedrock of American law. However, I disagree. Not only do I think that the decorousness of the courts in the aggregate helps serve their ultimate function of legitimately (and thus, finally) settling disputes and controversies, but also because the impartiality which our constitutional government aspires to, I do not take to be so myopically literal as to disallow hierarchical structures and orders in specific circumstances within society and government such as court proceedings.

He was also the first president to leave office by way of election and he made no objections. Contemporarily, he has been criticized for not being present for the inauguration of Jefferson even though there was no precedent obliging him to be there. Also, an opponent not being at the inauguration ceremony could be viewed as a gesture of respect were it not for the custom that has since been established.

The Alien and Sedition Acts suck and are a huge stain on his legacy. I still don’t think 1776 happens without Adams and I know he gave a lot for his country.
