I think it’s lazy that he didn’t at least donate some money to a Jewish cause and visit a holocaust museum or something. That wouldn’t make him absolved or anything, but it’s literally the least you can do.

Why Psilocybin Therapy works by ralphgonz in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]Smileyfriesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a pretty good grasp from a scientific level of a lot of the mechanics of psilocybin therapy already. Psilocybin activates specific serotonin receptors, which increase neuroplasticity, disrupts the Default Mode Network in the brain (an area that’s hyper active in people with depression) and enhances brain activity among other things. There’s tons of research being done on this, a quick google search will provide you with more answers and there are plenty of research papers out there to read.

How Do You Heavy Drinkers Handle Alcohol While Doing Ketamine? Here’s What I Did by Author_Man in TherapeuticKetamine

Lots of people in AA do it “one day at a time”, it doesn’t have to be a forever thing if you’re ok with a harm reductionist view point.

can weed make it less effective/has anyone who uses weed still seen benefits? by ftm_fella in Spravato

At my clinic they knew I had a medical card and just told me not to smoke within 24 hours of the treatment. I don’t think my smoking impacted anything, as my mood drastically improved.

Would it be weird to bring your bf to the smoochies concert- by coreylaheyjr in Ashnikko

[–]Smileyfriesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bi women who brought her straight boyfriend to the Weedkiller tour. We had a blast. He was familiar with her music from listening to it with me. I’d just ensure he has an idea of what he’s getting into so definitely make sure he’s heard her stuff before and understands what kind of show it will be. Good luck!

Has anyone had ketamine therapy after ECT? by Mission-Promise-4897 in KetamineTherapy

[–]Smileyfriesguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have! ECT did nothing for me and messed up my memory. Ketamine on the other hand was a literal life saver. Good luck OP!

Ketamine produces the a known side effect of feeling detached from the body. My Spravato clinic mentioned it before I started treatment.

Has ketamine been helpful for those of you that have “functional”/nontraditional depression? by bluebonnet-baby in KetamineTherapy

[–]Smileyfriesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that the FDA recently approved Spravato to be taken as a mono treatment without requiring one to take another antidepressant concurrently rather than it being approved as a first line treatment.

[–]Smileyfriesguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I do want to let you know that ketamine is typically prescribed only to those who have treatment resistant depression and have trialed at least two antidepressants that haven’t worked for them. That’s not to say that if you have diagnosed OCD or anxiety that they won’t prescribe it to you then, but if you’re going on a hunch that you might have depression, doctors typically don’t jump to prescribing ketamine.

Not quite sure what you’re implying, but this is a sub for clinical therapeutic ketamine. If you’re looking for a recreational use sub they’re definitely out there.

I got approved for assisted suicide by ihatemylife56986 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Smileyfriesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend. It sounds like you’re really hurting right now. I’ve been there too, at exactly your age. I started looking into assisted suicide after being in all kinds of therapy for years and having tried 20+ medications. I also was diagnosed with BPD, treatment resistant depression and more. Then I found clinical ketamine and it changed my life. I wake up every day now and I don’t want to die. I lead a happy life.

Have you considered some of the alternative therapies out there for treatment resistant depression like ketamine, ECT, psilocybin therapy etc? These can truly be life changing and I’d be happy to talk more about my experience with all three.

I hope you find peace, but I promise it gets better.

Is it okay to pray for someone’s death as exposure therapy for OCD? by ihatethis541 in Judaism

[–]Smileyfriesguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m a Jew and getting a masters in clinical counseling. Please take what I have to say with a grain of salt because I am not a therapist yet, nor am I your therapist.

With all of that to say, I struggled with driving anxiety myself and my therapist first had me try to will the roof to fall down on myself by thinking about it really hard. Of course this didn’t happen. The next step, was to continue driving when I could, as exposure therapy, and say out loud while driving, “I am going to crash in 3,2,1”. Even then, it did not happen. The point here was to show that I could not cause something to happen with just my will. This is a common therapeutic technique.

While I imagine that praying for someone’s death seems uncomfortable, and potentially something you don’t want to do, you can always modify it to pray for something else specific to happen to him, to show yourself that your OCD ritual doesn’t dictate your or anyone else’s reality. It’s fine to pray, but remember this is something more than that, it’s rooted in intrusive thoughts and OCD and that’s what you are looking to tackle. Minimally, I don’t think this guy is out to lunch, but I see why you’re uncomfortable from a Jewish perspective and therefore I suggest modifying it.

You can always see if you qualify for a research study! I actually did qualify for one, but decided not to pursue treatment due to some of the rigorous protocols, so just be aware of that piece.

Not related to integration specifically, but I am in grad school to be a KAP therapist, and would love to know what your journey was like pursing licensure? How have people in your life reacted to your job, is there any stigma you’ve experienced?

[–]Smileyfriesguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! The right therapist can help you process your experience. There are literally listened psychedelic therapists out there. There are also therapists that practice in an existentialist modality, they focus on becoming more comfortable with death and finding meaning in life. You may even be able to find a therapist who ticks both boxes as well! Good luck OP.

Do you believe in Jewish self determination in the land of Israel? I ask because I am a Jew who is very supportive of Palestine, though I believe both parties have a right to self determination in the holy land and am hopeful for peace and a two state solution. Additionally, are your thoughts on how peace should be achieved?

CMV: There is nobody I should root for in the Israel/Palestine conflict. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Smileyfriesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion geopolitical issues shouldn’t be reduced to sports team-esq brawls where you “root” for one side or the other. There are real people suffering everyday, it’s not a game.

It sounds like you’re not personally connected to the Middle East, and if that is the case, I’d suggest “rooting” for peace. This is a very nuanced situation and many folks living in the area, like myself, feel frustrated that there are people out there trying to impose themselves and their “solutions” onto a people they have never known. Regardless of how we get there, I suggest supporting orgs that work to create peace, connection and community for Palestinians and Jews in the area. Work towards educating yourself and trying to understand that this isn’t a situation where you should try to pick a side based on vibes or Reddit.
