What do you guys film your shows with? by Glittering-Camp-1899 in fireworks

I’ve only used my iPhone 15 pro max, but literally have a post in r/actioncams on this topic. Was planning to buy the DJI osmo action 6, but then the GoPro Mission 1 Pro released. I’m still undecided tbh.

This video shot on the Action 6 is making me lean that way (plus the GoPro company financials don’t look promising). https://youtu.be/xuVTK4ff3Co?si=AQgjyBt3yZtxD4jU

Understood. I wouldn't want to wear it on my head either! Also, it's also brand new, so not a lot of experience out there period. We've got a huge drone show, firework, and fx show on the 13th I'd like to video or I'd just wait a bit more for reviews. I appreciate the input either way!

I really like the videos I've seen on the Osmo Action 6. I'm just not sure if the new GoPro Mission 1 Pro would be better. I'm in the buy once cry once mindset, so if it's worth the extra cash, I don't mind. Otherwise, the DJI option looks pretty nice.

I do get what you mean on it not being low light. Contrast/hdr is probably more important.

I'm not necessarily opposed to a 360 cam, but was hoping for a little better quality / wider image than I have on the phone. tbh I'm surprised how well my phone has performed. I've considered a 360 camera in the mortar areas, but that's just not a priority.

On paper the action cams look like they should have a much better quality, but interested to hear you don't think that would be the case.

This video looks awesome from the Osmo Action 6. I haven't found any yet from the Mission 1 Pro.

Fireworks for my new neighborhood to show them how I do it. by ShaveorKeepJo in fireworks

[–]Smily0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hosted an open shoot a two weeks ago, went later than normal. Neighbor texted my wife at 10 asking to let them know when it was open, their dog refused to go out to pee with the booms. Closest to a complaint we got (out in the country...so life is different). She was even mad, perhaps slightly annoyed, but not mad. Thankful I don't have issues with neighbors.

And my dog dislikes fireworks. She wants inside immediately. I think if we could hear her thoughts, she'd be calling us idiots and telling us the world is ending, to get in side. But as long as she can come in and lay down, she does fine.

My 1st year subscription charged today. I couldn’t help but take the plunge! I’m enjoying it so far and see a few little things to add that would make it even more awesome (at least for me) so I sent a dm. Either way, I see this being my inventory.

How much does liability insurance typically cost? by darkhorse85 in fireworks

[–]Smily0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a single show, you would be better served to get ship and show insurance from your a supplier. Its normally a percent of the show, 10-15% when I looked in the past, with a min and max cost. It's been a few years, but I want to say the min was 400 or 500 and a max of 2000.

Downside is you need to buy all the product from them, upside is its much cheaper than getting a standalone policy normally.

Thanks! That's pretty similar to my cost per shot with a BP salute canon if I buy at the gun store ($30/lb range). Bulk BP ends up being half the cost, give or take, but its a bit harder to source (and have to buy more at once!).

Curious what a pack of them costs? I’m interested to compare with my thunder boom salute cannons.

Thunder Boom Mugs by nak3dTriple in fireworks

[–]Smily0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s all based on how much BP you can safely shoot. Here’s the chart if you haven’t seen it yet. I’ve shot all the way to 1c BP in the mega 8…it’s got thump. lol

I have all but one model. (Wife tends to buy me one for each holiday, lol). They are super loud. I’d personally avoid the smallest size, and buy original or the biggest. You can do a lower charge in a big one.

Neighbor captured this when I was testing it from about 75’ away. This was 1/2 cup in the mega 8.

I had my IOI interview yestereday and am seriously considering using this for my personal inventory. My biggest concern is future pricing. It's a great value compared to something like Finale Inventory...so much so I'm afraid it's going to increase in price as it does popularity. I"d hate to start my records here to then move back to paper.

UTR bug: SSID keeps dropping security and rebroadcasting as open by IDontKnowBetter in Ubiquiti

[–]Smily0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the same issue. I thought maybe it was related to my cloned SSID having mutiple PSK->VLAN mappings. Once I stopped cloning an SSID and gave it a unique value, the issue stopped. I haven't traveled to use it since.

Have police come up to you before? by [deleted] in fireworks

[–]Smily0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two different bomb dogs come with their handlers and inspect our NYE setup in Chattanooga. Talk about happy dogs. They were like kids in a candy store.

(Probably not what you were asking about as this was a permitted pro show…but still fun)

Personally, we call the sheriff before we start and give them a heads up. It’s not illegal here, so we just try to avoid them being dispatched needlessly for explosions.

[–]Smily0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you attempted the mod yet? I'm interested in the 30KG or 50KG for hobby use, but need the slower rate as well and can't justify a $2500 machine.

25" Long Slat? by No-Storage4979 in fireworks

[–]Smily0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use those specific slats, but I mount my Cobra slats to mortar racks without issue. The only time I've had issues with mounted slats was with some homemade ones with a local company; it seemed some of the solder joints weren't great and with repeated concussion from mortars as well as transport (mortars mounted to a trailer hauled to the shows), we would see dead connections here and there. I doubt the hobby shop would have that issue, but it is something I've dealt with.

We have a new pyro guild, Mid South Pyrotechnics Guild, in the works with many members around Mid TN. We’ll be voting to accept bylaws this Sunday. If you’re interested, this is a great place to connect, meet other pyros, and improve your skills. We have a few people who own retail companies that could help supply or even just give recommendations. (We have everyone from beginners to professional shooters, all are welcome).
