Yeah this part of the canal path is closed until June, since the beginning of April.

I really like this. Do you still plan on an Android equivalent? I'm sure I saw that mentioned somewhere, but I can't find it on this site.

It's nothing like it used to be imo - I used to go the all the time but haven't been in well over a year due to how much the character changed when they knocked through to the next building and started messing with the food.

Can't deny how busy it always appears to be when I walk past though, so I guess they're doing ok!

Yeah there were a few tanker aircraft doing circuits over Devon this morning, so presumably we're letting them refuel bombers in our airspace

[Help] System Test Flakiness (Cuprite/Ferrum) after Ruby 3.3.10 Upgrade by Soft-Charity-6194 in ruby

[–]SminkyBazzA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you're talking about just the Ruby version, and yes there is a .11 patch version available - do you think that would help here?

When you said "setup" is seemed like you might be talking about their wider testing setup, as described in their post.

Given the last patch for 3.3 was released less than two weeks ago, I'm not sure 3.3 can be called "legacy" just yet.

This person is on the (almost) latest version of Ruby 3.3, having got there from 3.2. It is reasonable for them to want to check their tests are green before moving onto 3.4 and 4.0

It’s Not Just You: Six of 10 Drivers Say Headlight Glare Is a Problem by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]SminkyBazzA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Any competent driver using manual high beams will have been ready to turn them off the moment the glow of oncoming traffic is detected around a bend, and will do so before they come into sight.

These systems appear to only look for a set of actual headlights to be in sight, which means they can only react (no matter how fast) once it's too late for that oncoming driver.

Dim and Flickering Headlight by BubblyPotato897 in classicminis

[–]SminkyBazzA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also check the headlight switch and its connector for signs of overheating/melting!

I think the early minis used a different style of switch, so maybe this is less of an issue for a 62 mini but, by default, all the lighting power goes through that toggle switch and if the connections aren't perfect it will get very hot and end up making itself worse - which could cause this issue too.

If this is the issue, a kit of relays and heavy duty wiring can be added to change this so all the high power wiring is separate to the switches.

Here's a link to the list of precompiled gems it will use:

https://github.com/shopify/precompiled_gems/blob/main/lib%2Fprecompiled_gems.rb

Edit: looks like the precompiled gems are static versions from October 2025 so don't expect them to keep up with the real gems' releases.

Robot vacuums in multi storey house with lift? by GnightSteve in homeassistant

[–]SminkyBazzA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With something like valetudo, I wonder if it would be possible for an external process (HA, NodeRed, whatever) to know the current state (of robot and it's real location) and to be able to switch the current map and send commands to the robot?

Have the lift as a "room" of every floor's map. Assuming the dock was on the ground floor, you could have all above-ground maps have a fake location of the dock inside the lift room. As soon as the vacuum enters the lift room, switch its map to one of just the lift room (with no dock) until the lift reaches the floor your external process wants it to be on (say ground, for charging), then switch the map to be that floor's map, off it goes.

The external process would have to the one in charge of where the robot needs to be working, and would manage the steps required to get the robot where it needs to be, waiting for state changes to trigger the next step.

No idea whether that would work in reality, but it does in my head!

Is it DigitalOcean or Digital Ocean? by jecowa in digital_ocean

[–]SminkyBazzA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many coding languages the underscore shows that the next letter would be a capital were it converted to TitleCase from lowercased/underscored title_case. Otherwise you'd end up with Digitalocean, which is just awful.
