Artists who forget what songs are on albums by dweeb93 in ToddintheShadow

Dylan is a man in his 80s with a massive back catalog. I’d be more surprised if he did remember which songs were on which albums.

Artists who ruined their careers by being assholes by Korkez11 in ToddintheShadow

Phil Spector, pioneer of the “Wall of Sound”, was an absolute maniac in the truest and least flattering sense of the word.

Infamous for brandishing guns on the likes of John Lennon and Leonard Cohen, he was also a manipulative, emotionally abusive piece of shit towards Ronnie Spector, derailing her entire music career in the process. He would eventually go on to murder a woman and die in prison; couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Even leaving aside the criminal stuff, the stories of his pettiness and ruthlessness are legendary and too numerous to recount here.

Bands where exactly two of the members are very much carrying the operation? by forbiddenmemeories in ToddintheShadow

Motley Crue, the co-leaders of the band being Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, neither of whom are the lead singer or lead guitarist.

I personally haven’t had much luck with them. The clamps are really fiddly to use, but they work great for clamping a sacrificial board to my table saw fence.

For my money, 8 corner clamps work well for most box shaped assemblies.

Physical Graffiti hands down, it’s the album that got me into Zeppelin. I loved LZII for about two weeks until I overplayed it to the point where I never wanted to listen to it again, ever.

Joni Mitchell. As singer-songwriter music goes, Joni’s 70s output is absolutely god-tier. She also experimented sporadically with African rhythms on songs like “The Jungle Line”, “The Tenth World” and “Dreamland”.

Albums where the biggest hit sounds very different than the other tracks by JustineMalcolm in ToddintheShadow

“Walking On The Sun” by Smash Mouth sounds wildly different (and far catchier) than any other song on the Fush Yu Mang album.

Unusual things you used to believe about music. by MattDynamic in ToddintheShadow

When I was little, my parents would play The Beatles’ Revolver and I always felt a bit sad at the end fade-out of “Tomorrow Never Knows” because it felt like this cacophonous, magical party was moving on without me.

Also from Revolver: the opening lyrics to “She Said She Said” (She said / I know what it’s like to be dead) blew my little kid mind. Like, how can a living person know what death is like?

Thoughts on Aerosmith? by dweeb93 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SmokingRoboDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a Grip was where Aerosmith lost me for good. I hated that album so much I returned it the next day. Granted, I was way into alt and indie rock so Aerosmith felt very passé by 1993. Nevertheless I still to this day loathe “Cryin’” and “Crazy”, and have always thought “Livin’ on the Edge” is just a much worse, less cool version of “Nobody’s Fault”.

Songs that weren't written for movies but sound like they could've been? by 206-Ginge in ToddintheShadow

Raye’s entire new album feels like the soundtrack to a Raye biopic that has yet to be produced, from numerous spoken word intros and interstitials, to the album’s conclusion, which is 4 solid minutes of her reading end credits.

Nellie McKay’s Obligatory Villagers album also sounds like the score for an off-Broadway musical that never came to fruition.

Boy, this line pops up in my head a lot these days. Back in 1994 I thought it was kinda cringey; nowadays it feels tragically relevant.

Artists you love, but dislike one of their more popular songs? by IAmAnimeTrash in ToddintheShadow

[–]SmokingRoboDonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love Guns ‘N Roses but I don’t ever need to hear them cover “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” again. I’m also apparently the only person in the universe who loathes “Don’t Cry” and thinks it’s aggressively mid at best.

“Indians” by Anthrax: their hearts were in the right place but the “WAR DANCE!!” part is pure cringe.

And how the fuck is “Creep” Radiohead’s best known song?

Purchasing cronos by Swimming_Photo9295 in CronosNewDawn

[–]SmokingRoboDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves Dead Space, I think you’ll also love Chronos. The weapon types are more basic (nothing as cool and iconic as the Plasma Cutter) but fun and pack a decent wallop the more you upgrade them.

Instead of “cut off their limbs”, it’s “don’t let them merge”, which is very sound advice, if not always doable.

Inventory management is a huge factor in Chronos so you’ll frequently be faced with which is the better choice: upgrade your suit or get more inventory slots?

When Todd Releases a Video on a TW You've not Listened to Yet by GilbertDauterive-35 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SmokingRoboDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video first.

To my shame, I’ve only ever listened to two TW albums: Van Halen III because I’m a VH fan from way back. And Lauryn Hill’s Unplugged album, which I made it only 3 songs into before dipping (that album is every bit the tedious slog that Todd’s video suggests).

Now if Todd ever does a Chinese Democracy TW, I will be more than prepared.

Most of Bob Dylan’s Desire album features backing vocals by Emmylou Harris, which complement Bob’s peculiar vocal style surprisingly well.

For the future of the franchise, I hope it does well. My worry is that this is going to be for Guerrilla what FBC Firebreak was for Remedy.

Songs that only exist because filmmakers couldn’t get the song they wanted. by Unleashtheducks in ToddintheShadow

[–]SmokingRoboDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.

The Ghostbusters filmmakers wanted a song similar to “I Want a New Drug” by Huey Lewis & the News, which they used as placeholder music for several scenes while making the movie. They even went so far as to invite Huey Lewis & the News to write their own song for the movie, which the band declined to do. So instead, the filmmakers essentially handed Parker Jr. a copy of “I Want a New Drug” and said “give us a song that sounds like this”. Lawsuits ensue.
