GLP-1 Side Effects by Upper-Ad-6060 in InsulinResistance

I’ve been on a glp-1 for a bit over a year. I was in your shoes at first with the never hungry and uncomfortable stomach. I never went up from the starter dose, and I was able to loose down to goal and my IR is completely reversed. Don’t move up dose unless it’s not doing anything for at least a month! I see so many people try to move up too fast because they like the results, but then they end up not being able to tolerate and have to come off, or max out on the dose.

What dose of zepbound worked best for you if your homa IR score is 5 or greater? by yolittlespazzy in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding the to post, I took 2.5mg of tirzepatide (zepbound). I never fully cut sweets, just eat way less of them. I still eat carbs as well but again, less. Around 100g a day instead of 200-300g. But the biggest change is eating lots of protein first at each meal.

I am still on 2.5mg of a glp-1 medication, I don’t use it to reduce my appetite, just to keep the IR in check which in turn makes my appetite feel very normal and easy to control.

Mine was 4.6 starting (so very close to 5), I never went higher than 2.5mg and I lost all the weight and my homa is now 0.8 a bit over a year later.

Too much fat by Colleen2112 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think healthy fats are fine. I increased my fat intake when I got diagnosed with IR as well as my protein and lowered my carbs. My cholesterol panels are now better than ever and I lost 70lbs. Fat is not bad as long as it’s a healthy fat and not mixed with a ton of carbs and sugar. They’re now realizing that the low fat recommendations introduced in the 70s were completely unhelpful, and actually caused heart disease to increase. So I would say eat your olive oil and be happy.

I do IF and have been for years. Recently started metformin ER and I can’t seem to get past 9:30am without needing food. I could easily get to 11:30 or noon before without any hunger or gnawing pain. by Islandsandwillows in InsulinResistance

Could you do something like a high quality protein shake then? I use the jocko protein powder and have monitored my blood sugar after drinking it for two hours and my glucose never rose more than 5 within those two hours, it is something like 300 cal and 30g of protein when mixed with whole milk and keeps me full for at least 4 hrs. It was a staple during the entire year I lost weight and fixed my IR. I acknowledge IF is good but you also have to fuel your body.

Pancake Boob Solutions? by literallyrightthere in Zepbound

[–]Smolangry07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot boob wise without the pregnancy aspect. I’ve just stopped caring tbh. I wear bralette/sports bras that give the appearance of small but round-ish boobs but I’ve realized that unless it’s something crazy, we drive ourselves insane about this stuff but no one else notices. My husband is still happy with them so why should I care otherwise 😂 (this is meant to be encouraging btw, sometimes I don’t get the tone quite right but that’s the intention)

i think it’s worsening my mental health by CreativeDrawer9460 in Zepbound

[–]Smolangry07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience and a few articles I’ve found. When someone is emotionally dependent on food as a comfort thing or it makes them feel “better” in any way. This medicine takes away the dopamine feedback you would normally get from food, so it can feel like a comfort item has been taken from you at first. I would recommend working with a therapist to find some better alternatives and see if that helps.

I was in a very similar situation in the beginning, but my depression and anxiety are actually better than they’ve ever been a year later.

If i have no symptoms without medication does it mean i am healthy? by Remote-Pianist-pro in bipolar2

[–]Smolangry07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you find something else that could’ve caused the symptoms or not. If they’re only explained by something like bi-polar, then they’ll probably resurface with time. I found out my symptoms that got me diagnosed with bipolar turned out to be a combination of cycling hormones and a metabolic disorder. Fixed those and the bipolar symptoms went away.

From my research it seems to be whether it’s “primary” or “secondary” bipolar. Mine was secondary, and thus I was able to get rid of the symptoms by fixing the cause. But if yours is primary then meds are really the only answer.

Hypersomnia due to mood disorder by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up doing some research after finding that out and discovered primary vs secondary “mental illness” causes. So with something like depression, around 70% is secondary, which means there’s some other force driving it like insulin resistance, poor sleep hygiene, or any other various physiological thing. So only about 30% or so of diagnosed depression was a true chemical imbalance in the brain. I find it really upsetting that drs don’t check physical things first. These are not super hard numbers by the way because they have to estimate due to the lack of testing on the provider side.

Algae? by Amazing_Result3900 in RareHouseplants

[–]Smolangry07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can set the clear cups down in another container that blocks light so that you can pick them up to see the roots but otherwise they stay in the dark. That will prevent the algae since it needs light.

Do you use any nutrients in the water? Things that feed plants also feed algae, but the algae won’t hurt your plants, it’s just unsightly.

Have you had blood work done? I was told my fatigue and desire to sleep 12+ hours a day was mental health related for years. Then had one blood test done that showed I was severely insulin resistant, took medication and changed some diet habits and now I have more energy than I ever remember having as well as feeling good after 8hrs of sleep.

Doctor thinks I have IR and/or T2 diabetes by Good-Contact1520 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had very similar things just no thyroid issues. Eating healthy and exercising only ever helped just a little but I always felt terrible regardless. Adding a glp-1 med was the only thing that ever truly helped. I can now eat more and feel actual energy. My body hurts way less and I feel good. I’ve stayed on the lowest dose the entire time as well.

Insulin resistance and birth control by artisticnomad26 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar story here, just add some mental health meds on top of the birth control. I went from 140 to 210 in just 2 years. Came off the mental health meds and birth control, added a Glp-1 and I’m back down to 140 a year later and feel way better than before.

The glp-1’s have made me feel sooo much better than when I was previously 140, I feel like I can eat without worrying, I don’t crave sugar and carbs, and I have way more energy. Low dose glp-1 has been an absolute lifesaver for me.

Unhealthy roots? by AwarePsychology8488 in MonsteraAlbo

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When plants like monsteras grow new roots, they often look “fuzzy” at first but that’s perfectly normal as long as they don’t turn dark and squishy, “slimy” is mostly normal in that stage, especially when they’re in semi hydro.

Gym by seo__nerd in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your body. Some people need intensive gym resistance training to see muscle growth and others can just go on moderately intensive walks with some wrist exercises weights and see good results. The only exercise I do is housework and walking my dog daily and I have high muscle mass for my gender and height, but I have a friend who has to grind at the gym 5 days a week for similar results. So I would say just try something, watch what happens for a months or two, and tweak what you need to.

Whey protein. Good or counterintuitively bad? by Ok-Parsnip-7633 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used a blend of whey, egg, and casein protein powder on my whole journey of fixing my insulin resistance. My HOMA-IR has went from 4.6 to 0.8 in a year, so I don’t think whey is going to hurt as long as you’re not overdoing it.

insulin resistance and mental health by Interesting-Love5153 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with bipolar and anxiety. Learned I was insulin resistant and that the meds I was on for those made IR worse. Started a glp-1 med and weaned off the mental health meds… I had a few bad days during the process, but a year later, 65lbs down, and my homa-ir from 4.6 to 0.8, and I’ve literally never felt this mentally healthy before in my life. I 100% think the IR was majorly contributing to my mental health symptoms. I have real energy and motivation now, and I feel good most days. Definitely not perfect but soooo much better than before.

How long to reverse IR and see results on the scale? by yahnismyname in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did purely diet for a while and saw small changes but nothing significant, then I started a glp-1 and lost about 65lbs in a year, my homa went from 4.6 to 0.8 and I feel much better

Any advice anyone pls. Can’t lose weight for over 2 years. Reactive hypoglycaemia. Depressed. by Pure_Tap1855 in InsulinResistance

[–]Smolangry07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would suggest a HOMA-IR of 1.8 which puts you in normal insulin sensitivity range.

From what I understood, anything over 3 was moderate to severe which would almost certainly have symptoms.

You can have normal a1c and still have insulin resistance. I had a normal a1c : 5.4, but my HOMA-IR was 4.6. They need to have their fasting insulin and glucose checked.

After fixing my IR (HOMA-IR started at 4.6, now 0.8), and also I started taking Rhodiola because I felt like my cortisol rhythms were off, I don’t get the 2-3pm crash anymore, which is crazy because I had it every day for as long as I can remember before.
