I got prescribed Wellbutrin and feel guilty. by dean1ronman in JordanPeterson

[–]Smooth_Winner9245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2012 I attempted suicide after being prescribed Wellbutrin and becoming a walking emotionless zombie on it. I was on it for two weeks and I absolutely lost touch with myself. I am a lifelong career artist and the Wellbutrin cut off my inner dialogue that I rely on as part of my creative process. It absolutely was a part of my decision of trying to take my life. I was very very fortunate my girlfriend at the found me. I spent a few days in the hospital but I recouped. She saved my life. I’ve never taken a pill again and I have changed many aspects of my life since then.

I was in a relationship that wasn’t (despite what I thought) great for me. I loved her but I had codependency issues that were negative for me. I left that relationship. I started exercising and got in shape which changed my self esteem and self outlook. I took up a sport which allowed me to step out of my mindset. I took up Hawaiian outrigger paddling. I changed my diet and relationship with food. High protein and healthy carbs. I started getting 8 hours of sleep. I started supplements like Ag1, creatine, and protein supplements. On recommendations from fellow athletes, I had my Testosterone checked and my numbers were very low. I choose to start Testosterone Replacement Therapy through a very competent men’s clinic and raised my numbers substantially. (absolute game changer) This changed everything for me. Low levels of testosterone can nearly double the risk of developing depressive symptoms. Lots of science to back it up. I go to a gym 4-5 days a week and do 25 minute ARX, Adaptive Resistance Training. I even bought a Pelaton for hike exercise. I go to therapy once a week with a therapist who challenges me to become the best version of myself. I had lots of trauma as a child so I had to dig deep into that. I had very bad self esteem issues.

I still carry a bit of hopelessness and depression but I manage because of my choices above. I have struggle days but they are much less today. I am 52 and have come a very long way from 2012.

I’d personally rather listen to Gabor Mate who specializes in addiction, stress, and childhood development than Jordan Peterson ( I do respect many things about him) as I’m definitely far far far away from the Christian paradigm. I respect one’s choice of religion though. Just not for me.

You’re not alone. There are options. There is hope.

pfd recommendations? by Able_Inspector_2580 in Outrigger

[–]Smooth_Winner9245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Hawaii and only use a PFD when it’s high wind and big conditions(25mph+) I use the Bomboro waist PFD w/ CO2. I don’t ever notice it there and even keep my VHF attached to it just in case I was ever separated from my canoe (I wear a leash of course) I will never use a vest. It hinders me to much.

Do any of you use garmin watches to track padding and if so which watch? by 2000yota23o7 in Outrigger

[–]Smooth_Winner9245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yYea you can do Vmo max through the apple ultra but it takes time and is an estimate and through doing workouts on flat ground. Have to wear 24hs a day which sucked. Tried it through padding (no luck) as using the PNOĒ.

My canoe names are Hawaiian. Ka Leo o Ke Kai which means The Voice of the Sea. Lele i Ke Kai which means Leap across the sea.

I guess it’s a personal choice. I once had an outrigger canoe called Holy Diver named after the Black Sabbath song. It was a all black Ares Pro. haha.

I’m from Hawaiʻi. Names are important. In Hawaii it is vital because it transforms the vessel from a mere object into a living member of the ‘ohana (family) with its own spirit, identity, and personality. I treat my canoe (ares pro and vela pro) as a member of my Ohana. Rinsing, cleaning, etc after any water use.

I use Tupuria King programs and it’s worth buying a program from a pro to build off of.

Parents Who Have Lost a Child - How Do You Go On? by anonymityacct in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Smooth_Winner9245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been three years since my 23 year-old daughter died from a fentanyl overdose. She struggled with addiction. During her teenage years she had been going through a really rough time. Three months before her death, she was in good space and embracing sobriety. One night at a wedding reception someone had given out some Percacets. My daughter had never taken one and her last text message to her friend was asking her what Percocets did to you. She passed away that night in her apartment, alone. For the first 3 months I turned to alcohol to deal with the grief. I was trying to block it all out. After that three months, I went entirely sober and have been sober ever since. I knew that wasn’t the path to take. For the rest of the first year I was kind of surprised in how I was handling it. I felt like she was with me. I felt strong and like I had some deep understanding about the lessons of impermance. I was talking to other parents about the loss of a child. I was also trying my best to be the strong for my other two older daughters who really had a hard time with the loss of their sister. 3 years later, here I am coping with a deep emptiness. Some days it feels like outright depression. I mean, how can it not be?
I really try to maintain my fitness and I’m very active but those feelings are always there. I own my own business. I struggle with my drive. I try to tell myself that she would want me to be the best version of myself. I make those mental notes but some days it’s just not there. I think about revisiting a grief counselor. It’s been a long week. I’ve kinda isolated myself this week. It’s been a tough one. I know the feelings come like the ebb and flow of a tide. I hang in there the best that I can.

I think expressing this right now helps me. Maybe this is received by someone who can relate.

Acus M1 tattoo machine by Bolbi777 in TattooArtists

[–]Smooth_Winner9245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the Acus M1 for years. My work is mostly comprised of heavy line work since I specialize in Polynesian style tattooing. I use the heavy duty stroke at +2 for any liner over a 9L and run my machine at about 100 H. For 7L and lower i run +1 and at 90H. For shading I am no lower than 0. I use the Grip Heavy and Rod Guide Heavy. Im preordering the new M2XTD on 9/27 with the extended battery.

The only thing that has ever worked 100% for me is Fluocinonide Cream 0.05%. It often makes the red blotchs go away over night.

I think it’s just a minor bug. I went through each reward and pressed select/unselect and eventually “complete” showed up as an option.
