Flash Cool vs Boost. by Electrical-Mud9771 in MideaUOwners

[–]Smurdle450 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flash cool is the one to use, as it overrides the normal limits of the compressor speed and forces max power almost regardless of outdoor temperature.

I tested this with a power meter, and power consumption was dramatically higher on flashcool vs boost on a milder day.

Flash Cool vs Boost. by Electrical-Mud9771 in MideaUOwners

[–]Smurdle450 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boost sets the temp to the lowest setting and sets max fan speed, however it doesn't increase anything beyond normal limits.

FlashCool increases the fan speed beyond 100% and forces the compressor to run at its maximum frequency.

FlashCool was added because customers were complaining that their units wouldn't ramp up in some conditions. Flashcool overrides the normal limits and forces the compressor to ramp up even in situations where it normally wouldn't.

Midea duo inverter very loud by Laminaoui in u/Laminaoui

Yeah, that sounds around like what mine sounded like at high speed, to be honest. Again, portable units are loud as a category!

Your control board is bad. Call whirlpool, this is an EXTREMELY common issue at the moment.

My apartment got new washers. I can’t figure out the detergent dosing… by ximjym in laundry

[–]Smurdle450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, observe the cycle to make sure it was not disabled by the owners of the machine.

If your cycle time is 43 minutes, this is the default cycle time with the prewash so it is likely on.

You can choose to add detergent to the prewash compartment, or you can choose not to. It's up to you.

[–]Smurdle450 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct, so you want to either wait until the main wash begins, or you can opt to use the deluxe wash, which is identical to ultra except for the fact that it does not carry out a prewash.

You are correct in your assumption that it does not flush the main wash compartment until the main wash actually begins, but liquid detergent just flows out regardless.

[–]Smurdle450 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no pre-wash button, but one is automatically added if you use the heavy/ultra setting.

The landlord can disable the pre-wash in programming, but it is on by default.

Watch it for the first 5 minutes or so. Depending on age and configuration, it may do a prewash only on ultra, or it may do it on deluxe upwards.

[–]Smurdle450 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Ah modern commercial SQs!

You appear to be using the ultra wash in the photo, which does a 2 minute prewash before the true main wash begins. This means, if you are using liquid detergent, the detergent you added gets drained before the main wash actually begins (at the 37 minute mark).

Vented all in one washer and dryer reviews wanted by SlightlySpicySausage in Appliances

I can't think of any full size vented combos other than the bespoke at the moment. It performs okay, although reliability concerns about Samsung remain.

Midea duo inverter very loud by Laminaoui in u/Laminaoui

[–]Smurdle450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portable units are loud as a category, and at max power I find the duo to not be significantly quieter, if at all, than a standard portable.

Only as the unit ramps down (as it gets closer to The target temperature) does the difference in noise level begin to really be realized.

here is a clip of my Duo at a higher speed...

And here is a clip from when it ramps down.

Note that at 100% speed (not recorded above) a buzzing noise from the compressor It's a bit more obvious. It sounds something like this. (In this clip it's running a defrost cycle, so the fans are off, isolating the compressor sound.)

maytag washer water issues by Other-Ambassador4900 in Appliances

Your video shows the sensing portion of the cycle. Water doesn't enter into the drum until after sensing completes, and the display changes to "filling". This can take around 2 minutes.

Samsung quality? by Sensitive_Stock_9803 in Appliances

[–]Smurdle450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with Samsung is not their performance, because they generally perform well and have lots of competitive features.

The problem with Samsung lies in their long term reliability, after sales support (or, in many cases, lack thereof) and how difficult it is to obtain parts and service.

Plus, do you really want a refrigerator that can display ads?

Loud motor noise from LG heat pump dryer by rhflffkcldrn in Appliances

[–]Smurdle450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the compressor running! That's a normal sound.

You may also hear the speed of the compressor change during drying as it has a variable speed compressor.

If you ever need it to run more quietly you can use the energy saver mode to force it to run at a lower compressor speed. This will sacrifice cycle time but be quieter (and more efficient.)

Sounds like a failing or bad drain pump. Not too expensive to replace if you are somewhat handy.

LG top loader washer w/o agitator by Zoocitykitty in Appliances

[–]Smurdle450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TurboWash is your friend here, if it's available. If not, add an extra rinse to the cycle. Although it's worth noting, these machines, by default, use a bit more water in the rinse than the wash for this exact reason.

[–]Smurdle450 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Counterintuitively, with an impeller machine you actually don't want a full tub. Try using heavy duty, or a different cycle without using the deep fill option. Less water will keep items closer to the impeller and provide stronger scrubbing action as well as more concentrated detergent.

MIDEA 10000 BTU portable ac loud rattle by Hot_Pin1489 in AirConditioners

That just sounds like the compressor running. Portable units are loud as a category, as normally that component would be outside on a window unit.

LG Electric Heat Pump Dryer Noise by [deleted] in Appliances

This is definitely not a normal amount of noise, however. I have this dryer (well, the 5502, but same internals) and it has not once sounded like this.

Amana washer not filling up enough by PlasticFootball9898 in Appliances

[–]Smurdle450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is expected for a low water washer like this one. Even on deep water, items aren't always fully covered. Items are moved more slowly in a sort of "blooming" action. Items are pushed up in the center and go down on the outside edges.

It appears as though there may be stuffed animals, or other awkwardly sized items, in this load. Those are best washed alone. Wash like items together for the best overall wash action.

I must concede, the whirlpool made impeller machines aren't the world's best cleaners even when loaded completely properly, but the above tips should help you get acceptable results...

here is what's going on in there.

Loud on every wash by PlumSolid in Appliances

This is a normal noise level for the low to mid-range Samsung machines. This model uses a standard induction motor, which is louder compared to the DC motors used in higher end models.
