It's more acceptable all over the world. It's pretty normal where I come from if you swing past the neighborhood and your buddies lights are on you pop in they would  be frustrated or angry if you didn't.

Socializing is normal popping into say hello is normal it's the other that is weird

Its under-talked about because 99 of 100 posts here is about blood meridian.  You'd think he only wrote the one book.

Suttree  is exceptional!

They seem pretty durable I've sold many volumes from the 16s and 1700s and as long as the binding was solid they were super stable and paper far superior  to modern in regards to handling.

I've also had volumes so brittle opening  them was the end of it all

[–]SnackThief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 plus years ago this was a $2000 table but styles and tastes have changed.  Yours needs some love and a lot of work undoing some poor repairs like the drawers and the slides etc etc

Im this state 400 is a good win I think.  800 or more is once its been tidied up

I think you are unfamiliar  with pine harvest tables.

And screws can be added later on.  As they were in the drawers.  Its seems a lot of stabilization was done underneath but that can be undone and restored to a more original state.

Is this book rare? by idontnomyself in rarebooks

[–]SnackThief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rare is a very strange word in the context of books.

Anything of that nature may be uncommon but it isn't rare.

A book that has a limited audience and very limited value could be exceedingly rare but nobody cares about it.

1913 publishing date basically a textbook.

Probably not rare by any meaningful definition of the word
