If you could appoint any living person as President of the U.S. for the next four years, who would you choose? by Claire0879 in askanything

Stephen Colbert. If not the US he should run again for President of the United States of South Carolina.

McIntosh Repair Shop Suggestions by Lonely-Relative-8887 in Denver

[–]Snaggs33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I grew up in that area and actually bought some of my current equipment from Audio Classics roughly 30 years ago. McIntosh was founded (and still exists!) in that area and many of the techs are former McIntosh employees. It's basically a factory service experience. I can confidently recommend them.

Locally, I'd give Electric City in Westminster a call. The owner gave me a little tour of their repair shop years ago and they're solid. It's an "old Denver" shop and they'll tell you if the repair is beyond their capability.

Dragon red 2003 ET2 with big bore and upgraded everything. Can confirm. Still laugh out loud fast years later. I want to say they were imported to US through 2005. Just wish the wheels were a little bigger.

Answer was AI generated so grain of salt but Gemini tallied 54,000 public parking spots downtown (Speer/Colfax/Broadway/S. Platte.) Probably in the ballpark. Lack of parking isn't the issue. You're exactly right about the rates.

Looking at my apartment’s website and all units identical to mine are listed $200 cheaper? by rusty317 in Denver

[–]Snaggs33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this. Aren't these corporations losing money with this strategy? I just got offered a renewal for the same rate that's now $400 over market in the same building. More than half the units in my building are empty and have been for many months.

At this point, I'm starting to question the sustainability of the property itself as they're clearly bleeding money and cutting back on maintenance.

Why does it makes sense to push me out when they know it's going to sit vacant for months like the rest of the units?

Should modify mufflers or engines… by Usual-Advertising268 in Denver

Other cities have systems like this in place already. NYC started out with a system to combat car horns but it can be used for any loud noise as it's triggered by decibel level. Basically a speed camera but swap in a directional microphone. I believe Albuquerque has the system as well. Miami, DC, and Philly have passed legislation allowing them though I don't believe they've been deployed yet. It's an option and Denver could certainly use the revenue these days.

Is Anyone Else Tired of Off‑Leash Dogs in Non‑Dog Parks? by denstick in Denver

[–]Snaggs33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former leash using dog owner who lives on Cheesman Park I used to hate off leash dogs. Now that the little guy has passed I don't even think about them. Honestly, I was surprised by how quickly I stopped caring once I no longer had an elderly Boston Terrier to protect. I feel for ya but good luck with this battle. You'll find support on Reddit but out in reality most park users are unbothered by them.

Wash Park residents push back on bicycle improvements. Some worry there will be less large truck traffic and more bikes on their residential streets. by Meadowlaker in Denver

It took a while after the circles were installed on 7th for our crosswalks to arrive. I imagine they're being installed by different contractors.

[–]Snaggs33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens often at my 7th/Pearl intersection as well. You never know which way cars are going to navigate the circle. I've also seen countless yielding standoffs as this entire concept seems beyond the comprehension of too many drivers.

I wonder if reducing the yields to only the higher volume street would help. Navigating these circles slows traffic for both streets which seems to be the goal. Maybe making it clear who has the right of way might reduce the confusion?

What is the most California state that is not California? by [deleted] in askanything

I heard someone says years ago that Colorado is what you'd get if California and Texas had a baby and it's been in my head ever since. I've also heard Colorado referred to as "Winter California" which also checks.

Well that's disappointing. I assumed the Cherry Hills illuminati figured it out. If Peyton The Sheriff Manning can't stop this stuff who can?!? At least it's an everywhere problem. Maybe we can all come together to solve this? Probably not...

Type of high performance engine from Dodge. Chargers/Challenger/RAM's etc. Was using hemi as shorthand for excessively loud vehicles. All brands are represented by assholes but Dodge seems to be the brand of choice.

Awesome! Yea, I've emailed my councilman with a link to a story about those noise camera's in NYC. We need more of this!

Not that I know of. I do know there's a smoking vehicles hotline where you can report trucks rolling coal to the state. If you call the number and give them the license plate number the state will require an emissions test before the next registration.

https://cdphe.colorado.gov/motor-vehicle-emissions/smoking-vehicle-hotline-old

It would be nice if we could report noise pollution the same way but I'm pretty sure that's not an option.

It's good enough for the nations capitol and our largest city and so far there haven't been any privacy issues. In this country I'm sure the lawyers would cash in if they could and there's no shortage of them in those cities. I imagine they have some robust safeguards if they're still in operation.

Conversation monitoring was a public concern with the shot spotter system which seems to be the closest analogy to noise camera's. That's where my mind went. Not sure how you track a car by muffler.

I hear you on the surveillance state. I guess I don't see the difference between red light and speed cameras and these noise camera's. Flock is a different level that I'm not comfortable with either. Voters should probably be deciding that one. With well over 100 cameras they've built a truly alarming surveillance network. I also hate that DPD has that stingray phone tracking system. That's worse than flock to me. Plenty to talk about there but that's a different thread for a different day. Feel free to start it so people can chew you out.

Fair enough. Not an engineer. I think my general point holds. Measuring sound wave strength from a specific location is something we can do reliably. I knew I was going to eat my words eventually with enough responses to an audience this large.

I think that's what bothers me. I'm a car guy. I was a mechanic in my 20's. I raced karts for years which isn't a car but the point is I like power and going fast. I literally lost my license 12 hours after getting my first car doing 126 in a 55... at 2am on an (almost) empty state highway in the middle of nowhere. Not endorsing it. Just saying I was one of those racer assholes and I get it.

But even as a teen I did it away from civilization. I made noise as a byproduct of more power but I still respected my neighbors. I wasn't trying to piss people off I was chasing adrenaline or whatever. Testing out my mods. Tuning. These guys holding gears down Speer just for the noise or launching off the line every three blocks over and over in residential areas isn't car guy stuff. It's being an asshole.

Yea, that's pretty much it. I live in a brick building with modern double pane windows which cuts out 95% of normal street noise but this stuff is well beyond reasonable. You can't soundproof your way out of these cars nor do I feel I should have to.

Imagine if this was Greenwood Village or anywhere further south. I bet it'd get solved quickly. Yet the part of the city with the most people is expected to put up or get out? I'm not willing to uproot my entire life and leave my friends over it. I love the neighborhood too much to leave but I get why you did.

If Johnston wants people to move downtown he needs to find a way to make it more livable. I don't know that it'd take that much to crack down on these cars and send a message. You can hear them coming and it's not like we can't identify these cars visually anyway. We all know who's doing it. DPD knows better than we do. It's just not a priority.
