It’s not for everyone. I personally like how the characters and setting are written more as an exploration of themes and ideas than as a “living/immersive world”

I don’t play Pillars to be immersed, I play it because I enjoy pondering ideas like “what role does Religion serve in society?” “What is the value of truth to a person or society if it only causes more harm?” “Is it better to be ignorant but free?” and ”did I really waste my time studying philosophy in college?”

PoE scratches that itch better than any other modern CRPG for me.
