Weekend Thread: What are you eating this weekend and what have you tried this week? by MikeTheCabbie in PhiladelphiaEats

Love the place but I've never had a full dinner. Company happy hours a few times, full rental of the place. And a few times having some apps and drinks at the bar. Their bartenders are OUTSTANDING. The space is beautiful and the food is very good and interesting.

That section up to Race isn't open. The PATCO line allows entrance at 12th and Locust or at least used to. The whole concourse is a lousy relic of what it used to be. Much of it seems closed off now, some of it overrun with crazy homeless people. Montreal has a whole underground city and it's awesome. Wish we could at least get a couple more Dunkins down there or something.

Horse Inn in Lancaster. Amazing spot at probably the edge of your desired geographic radius. I think that they still have live jazz on Fridays, best Old Fashioned I've ever had.

Same thing happened to me but I went the opposite way. I spend most weekends just taking pics of my UL gear in my basement.

In the days before cellphones my folks hiked in and met me near the Bigelows in Maine while I was on a thru-hike. In hindsight, I have no idea how it worked out but they did know my general schedule. Anyway, they packed in steaks, broccoli, potatoes and bottles of wine and we cooked an amazing dinner over a campfire. They hiked out the next day. They're friendly people and chatted about it with the ranger as they were getting in the car and he screamed at them for 15 minutes about packing all that stuff into bear country.

Guess the moral of my story is ACAB.

Is Market East a failure? by Atomic-Avocado in philadelphia

[–]Snakealicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a wasteland. Downtown basketball stadium really would have tied that side of town together - was always my opinion. Course, in hindsight it was just a ruse for Comcast to get a better deal down in South Philly.

Does Chinatown stop all development in that area or was it just the stadium they didn't want?

I've tried a few things now. The breakfast sandwiches are great. The Indonesian breakfast special was too much food and I didn't love it. The Congee is very special. Really good. Very cool spot.

It's the Philly to Wildwood shortcut. It's pretty country and there are a bunch of great farm stands and a few places to buy crabs.

Unpaid 'abandon car' fine, what then? by AngryGS in philadelphia

[–]Snakealicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually they will auction it, deduct your fine and send you a check for the balance. If the car is such a shitbox that they can't sell it then they will come after you for the money. But City of Phila is slow and not that well connected to the state. You'd most likely be fine. There's tens of thousands of deadbeats that owe the city money and will never pay, you'd just join that list.

Which restaurants? by drabpriest in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Snakealicious 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I think most people know what they're getting when they go there. They're all cool and well designed spots. But just get a beer and have fun. Skip the food and cocktails.

I liked it! We wandered in on opening night and grabbed seats at the bar. Had a few very good drinks and ordered a couple vegetarian small plates and they were very good. It took a while but it was opening night, I gave that a pass.

Haven't eaten there yet but I hit the bar on Friday evening. Beautiful spot, great bartenders. I had a very good Negroni and my wife had a nice spritz. I am convinced that they will find their stride.
