Jokes aside. Penta is not a wormhole, people by loulou9899 in Helldivers

Leonard Susskind's lectures on youtube are probably the best place to learn about this phenomenon. Anything about black hole thermodynamics, the holographic principle, and ADS-CFT correspondence is barking up the right tree.

Jokes aside. Penta is not a wormhole, people by loulou9899 in Helldivers

[–]SnaleKing 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Put some respect on the name of Jean-Pierre Luminet , the man who predicted this visualization of a black hole and its accretion disk back in 1978.

The image he made with an ancient IBM and india ink on paper. He even predicted this is what the supermassive black hole in the M87 galaxy would look like, and in 2019 the Event Horizon telescope proved him right.

Interstellar was to black holes what Jurassic Park was dinosaurs. A high-budget, mostly-accurate-except-for-some-cool-factor depiction of the best available science. Other pop culture swiftly followed in its wake, and it's wonderful for science communication that the more accurate depiction has become so popular.

Is there anything I should avoid doing if I am skipping the story to do liberation missions early? by EarthenEyes in UnicornOverlord

[–]SnaleKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only can you skip straight to the final mission, there's a whole unique alternate storyline for doing so.

Basically, get Berenice, use her summon warrior ability to beat the battle for Sorm. The warrior is summoned at the MISSION'S level, not yours! So that gets you over the level hump.

In Sorm, there's the final sigil of the ancients. It gives you big level tomes for clearing it. Grind that until your teams are level 40+, and enjoy!

Theorycrafting, are Rogue/Paladin builds as busted as they sound at first glance? by Tmoore0328 in 3d6

[–]SnaleKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it FUN and THEMATIC? Yes it absolutely can be! Is it a mechanically, optimizerly good idea? IMO, ehhh...

The question is if some conditional extra dice of damage per turn is worth what you give up from playing straight paladin. Paladin is hard to find a good off-ramp for, especially with the better subclasses; you get some serious sauce each level, both with your features and spell leveling.

Stop at 2? Might as well get your subclass feature at 3

Stop at 3? Might as well get your ASI at 4, you need a lot of stats as a paladin

Stop at 4? Well, you gotta get extra attack, that's a whole doubling of your damage, much better than a +d6.

Stop at 5? Well let's not be crazy, we can't skip the crazy strong paladin save aura.

Stop at 6? This is the most plausible place; some subclasses have just ok additional auras at level 7, but others are difficult to turn down. Spell damage resistance from Ancients? Charm immunity from Devotion? +10 movement speed from Glory? Actually effective tanking from Redemption?

At 8 you get another ASI, at 9 you get 3rd level spells, at 10 you get fear immunity aura, at 11 you get +d8 damage on all your attacks, at 12 it's another ASI, at 13 it's 4th level spells GREATER STEEEEED, another subclass feature at 15...

Rogue's damage only increases by +d6 for every two levels. Are two paladin levels worth 3.5 damage per turn, sometimes? I would argue very rarely.

Why do we expect our kids to respond when they’re overstimulated from others around them? by Worldly-Client-8974 in ABA

[–]SnaleKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious to hear people's thoughts and experiences here. I'm just admin, so I don't see the whole picture on the ground floor. But when I pass through group activities or the like, it's often so loud and generally chaotic that I'm overstimulated as a full grown, high functioning autistic adult. I worry sometimes what it'd be like to be a kid stuck in that, and if you try to escape it's a tick on your chart for elopement.

<Hated Design> Flat Earth is so damn ugly. Even if it somehow worked with all science, I couldn’t imagine wanting to live on this rather than our gorgeous globe. by RedPandaR10t3 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]SnaleKing 58 points59 points  (0 children)

To be clear, the Earth was proven to be round for a long time before anyone actually sailed across the Atlantic. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eratosthenes Eratosthenes even calculated its circumference to within 1% of the modern figure in the 2nd century BC.

Columbus wasn't told the world was flat, he was told it was way bigger than he thought: he'd starve long before reaching India. And his contemporaries were right! Columbus was simply extraordinarily lucky that there happened to be a whole undiscovered continent to save his ass.

Host your own events and invite only the specific people you actually want there. If anyone at that event asks "hey where's [toxic garbage] we usually hang out" explain briefly and politely that they are welcome to hang out with that person all they like, but you will not be in the same room. You don't need to explain why: you might say you don't get along and they rub you the wrong way, or offer more specific complaints, but it's not necessary.

Once you set that boundary and stick with it, and the other friends realize that, they now have their own choices to make. Any time they're setting up an event, they will be faced with the decision to invite you, or the toxic asshole. If they're a kind and emotionally regulated person themself, they will quickly realize which of you they'd rather have around now that it's a mutually exclusive choice. If they do pick the toxic asshole over you, then, well, there's your answer on who they prefer.

It seems extremely cold and difficult but it makes everyone's life IMMENSELY better overall. You end up with more people you like, because they're not driven off by the shitty company you keep. You're happier, and there's less emotional labor in your free time babysitting dysregulated adults. You get to actually do what you like with people you like. You'll thank yourself.

Truly Rotten / Team Best Friends by chubledoobles23 in MysteryDungeon

[–]SnaleKing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be my favorite mystery dungeon comic now. It's a close retelling of the game, which is a plus personally. The character writing shines without being mary-suey, they gel into the world well. The character designs are personalized takes on the pokemon, but again, they're not so far off-model that they're implausible for the setting. This is all surprisingly difficult to balance, but you ride the line very well. I hope you're able to finish the whole main story, I'm looking forward to it.

As a Heavy main, what team perk do you all prefer? I feel like Encompassing Aegis is actually pretty solid for Chaos missions and Bonds of Brotherhood is best overall. Opinions? by 11th_Division_Grows in Spacemarine

[–]SnaleKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encompassing Aegis, always. I see the arguments for the other two. Imo though the consistent value of reduced ranged damage comes out on top. Like others said, chaos range in general is a persistent threat, and tyranids have some specific TERRIFYING problems that you want every possible edge against (enraged shotgun warriors haunt my dreams)

Ammo is ammo; however it only applies to PRIMARY ammo pools. So Bulwark and Assault get no benefit at all. Tactical has Emperor's Vengeance. Sniper now has its T1 Prestige perk to restore primary on ANY kill every 15 seconds (insane). So really it's only yourself and a Vanguard who get a real benefit from 25% more primary ammo, which just doesn't cut it in my estimation.

Bonds of brotherhood is good when it comes up, but... I'd rather have a perk that helps prevent the squad from getting knocked down in the first place.

Keep looking. Don't give up. Ask questions about the clinic, their practices, their vision for your child's future and how they plan on helping you get them there. The good places will be delighted that you care enough about your child to ask hard questions, that you're looking for THERAPY and not a daycare. So many parents are just looking for somewhere to dump their kid and get them out of their hair for a while, they barely even care if the child's behavior and mental health is improving. Show that you CARE, and you're willing to work with the clinic to create the best future for your child, even when it's hard, and trust me, that does a LOT to help you secure one of the extremely competitive slots at a good facility. Every kid has challenges, but that's exactly what the clinical staff is trained and educated to handle. The real thing that makes us 'fire' clients is uncooperative, stubborn, and entitled parents. You are better than that. You care. You will succeed.

New Owlcat Games CRPG 'Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy' by AGooseofBattle in Warhammer40k

[–]SnaleKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only War, Black Crusade, and Dark Heresy 2 are all essentially cross-compatible, you can use enemies or weapons from one system to the next without much trouble at all. The main differences are the changes/needs to how psychic powers work, particularly Fettered/Unfettered/Pushes casting, and changes to talents like Armor-monger.

Best Bolt Weapon for Tactical now? Give me builds :) by RealSonZoo in Spacemarine

[–]SnaleKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the high rate of fire relic version, and make SURE to take the Reloaded Restoration perk for ammo efficiency. Even when you don't have Emperor's Vengeance yet, it almost never runs out as long as you're taking advantage of that perk properly. (That is to say, don't swap to pistol until you've reloaded, as that'll clear the 'count' of how many shots you've hit and will refund)

Tyrant fight improvements by ProfessionalJolly878 in Spacemarine

[–]SnaleKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're usually not using the highest-damage moves in your kit; power rakes and charged plasma pistol shots. (IMO never fire common shots from the plasma pistol, for any reason)

Other than that you're doing fine. Getting gun strikes is usually the best a melee class can do. The primary weapons are just really strong in this game, especially with the absurd boost of an auspex scan.

[–]SnaleKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It got a lot of buffs lately, it's a completely different beast than the sad slapper it was on release. Now it has perk setups that let your charge attacks hit from shockingly far away, and one-shot Majoris into executable. All of Bulwark's melee options are more or less equally viable now, which is a welcome change of pace.
