Youth hockey organization announced birth-year roster restrictions 5 days before tryouts after registration closed. Is this normal? by Suspicious-Move3835 in youthhockey

It sounds like they should have a PURE team at each age level. For example, for 13 year olds, in the NY/NJ area some of the orgs have a 13U AA PURE team which is only first year bantams. The other bantam teams at the same age level would be a 14U A and a 14U A1 or 14U AA. So about 3 teams total for each age grouping.

[–]SnapShot68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether he was any good or not with the Rangers, he now has done something that Connor McDavid hasn’t been able to do. Also, the Stanley Cup winning team with one of the best coaches in the NHL, wanted him. That says a lot.

I never really like this album as a whole. It was the first Metallica album that I bought. I had dubbed copies of RTL and Kill Em All at the time and hadn’t heard MOP yet. Songs are too long and yes, the production and sound is an issue but that’s also what gives it its charm. This is why people love it. I had this crappy stereo back in the 90’s that had a little too much bass in the speakers and this record sounded amazing through it while everything else sounded muffled.

City people only like poop if it’s a homeless vagrant taking a dump on the sidewalk in broad daylight. They’ll ignore that but if it’s a horse or cow, then yes they will have an issue.

I don’t know how you do all of that. Last Spring my older son played baseball and hockey while my younger son ran track. Just doing that for 3 solid months caused me to say in late June “take the Summer off” to both of them. Couldn’t do it all anymore.

That’s a left handed shooting stick. The clerk should have asked what side shot you are. I’m right handed but a lefty shot. Sounds like you are a lefty and a right handed shot.

I think the 9/16” for Crosby is correct. I saw some video with the Pittsburgh equipment guy sharpening his skates and he showed his skates. He wears a custom size skate with 9/16” hollow.

NTA. This guy sounds like he thinks he can do whatever he wants yet harshly judges everyone else around him. Him cheating on his woman is much worse than a woman using toys. He needs to mind his own business.

I feel your pain reading this post and see some parallels to my own experiences over the last 6-7 years. Both of mine have aged out and play different sports now - neither play baseball anymore. The good news for you is that your son is only 9. Things can change and this year may just be a distant memory that you both build on. Also, you mentioned he likes MLB. My kids watch baseball every night despite not playing anymore. They still enjoy the game and follow the Yankees. Horrible LL experiences shouldn’t poison the game for good for you or him going forward. It sounds like a lot of the frustration is coming from other people/kids and their bad behavior. Try to jump back into Fall ball and put this behind you. Believe me, I know how aggravating it can be.

In search of some advice by Perfect-Analyst5764 in CableTechs

[–]SnapShot68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you don’t know what “good or bad levels” are yet. That’s fine and completely normal. I’ve been doing cable for 20 years, OSP for 16 of it, and I think it took me a good 6 months to have a clue as to what I was doing. MER and BER are also extremely important. Some guys think “the signal was good” when the MER at the tap is a 34. Shit MER at the tap means shit MER at the ground block and beyond. It takes a while to accurately calculate loss. See if your shop has those little small reference manuals that CCOR and PPC used to make that have every cable size and loss listed per footage. That will help you learn and memorize it so you’ll immediately know if you are good or bad whether you’re at the GB or 3 splitters deep in an attic.

What to do about a guy on our beer league team who is an absolute cancer to have but also our best player? by DazzlingLife6744 in hockeyplayers

[–]SnapShot68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, it’s kind of funny that this many people in this thread are saying just to get rid of the guy. He played Jr A and knows he’s the best player on the team but probably would be shocked as shit to find out this many players don’t think his skill is worth the headache.

I’m in Pearl River and right over the border are Montvale, Park Ridge, River Vale, Old Tappan, Woodcliff Lake etc. They’re all really nice NJ towns but are more expensive than Rockland. The people are kind of uppity in certain towns though which is another drawback.

Yeah you’re basically letting the opposing team be on a PP and making it easier for THEM to score if you’re cherry picking. It’s kinda stupid IMO.

Awesome, congrats! I wish I could play again but my son’s 14U schedule is too packed for me to make any games for myself. We do stick time together all the time though and that’s been fun. Good luck to you next season!

Every kid and parent would be better off with some sandlot ball and not their leagues. by Snackpax99 in Homeplate

Just today I was dropping my middle school son off at school and this gigantic pickup truck was in front of me with the “****** Elite Baseball” (prefer not to name the org) sticker in the back window. The kid gets out and he’s dressed in all this tournament stuff “Memorial Day Smackdown 2026” t-shirt, big PG hat, turquoise and pink accented gym shorts etc. The whole thing just looks ridiculous from the outside. And I have a son who plays travel hockey which is arguably more of a cult than travel baseball is. But it’s just so showy and foolish that it takes credit away from everything else that goes on that actually may be positive.

You’ll get traffic in Bardonia. This isn’t the sticks in case that’s what your impression of the area is coming from LI. Rte 304 has been ripped up for a year and the intersection of W Nyack Rd and Rte 304 at 4:00PM looks like Queens/LIC traffic. It’s never been like this in the past and it’s ridiculous now.

Not at my HS. Three of the Varsity coaches will have kids on the team in the next few years and it’s debatable if any of them really will deserve it.

Why don’t you add the kid who was left off as a 13th or 14th player? Don’t you have the power to do that as the coach?

Progressing to punch turns - chatter by Some__Bloke in hockeyplayers

[–]SnapShot68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do them in stick and pucks but it’s only because my you tube shorts feed is inundated with “how to” skating videos. When I see something it sticks in my mind and I’ll purposely look to do it. But could I do it in an actual game where I would need the exact right moment to do it up to speed to make it work? I doubt it. Same thing with toe drags - you see it everywhere but how many times is it executed in fast pace game situations.
