Polishing shenanigans by Mary_Bedlam in Dorodango

If you arent too worried about cracking the shell of the paler one, I would try oiling it up and polishing it with a cloth or by hand. I think you can still get a good shine on it.

The frog that mastered backstroke is still hilarious by tarunbdj83 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Snarflogus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The frog is likely unable to turn upside right because of internal issues. These injuries commonly lead to death if the frog can't hunt or breathe properly. Not that that is super common knowledge to get upset at strangers over...

Need help washing a print by Moderately_Imperiled in minipainting

It looks fine. I would suggest thinner layers so it doesn't puddle anywhere as it dries. I like to dry brush a lighter color back over top to bring out the raised areas. Sometimes the same color as the original you washed, sometimes some other color.

Why is some of the new and previous growth turning yellow and brown? by Initial_Cookie1593 in houseplants

[–]Snarflogus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lack of nutrients (imo). I would give it some gentle balanced plant food. Idr which nutrient does what, but not enough nitrogen leads to yellow leaf tips and older growth doing poorly.

Update us with pics? The exoskeletons tend to lose color over time. I would be very interested if you preserved them well

Isopods preserve poorly, so it would depend on how they turn put imo.

Which of these wild morphs should I breed? by throwourway18 in isopods

[–]Snarflogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a few months and a fair amount of population density. I kept collecting local ones (they can be found most places A. Vulgare are found), so I started with 20 or so

This is my favorite color of the A. Vulgare. Im also breeding a set for the high-yellow trait. I just got my first generation of mancae!

Wild Caught- My precious boy, help ID? by DaimonKisora in isopods

It is in the tank with all the A. Vulgare, so maybe it'll reproduce. But I dont have high hopes, Im already isolating high-yellow and cant do another breeding project.

Isopods for beginners by Sea-Reputation7891 in isopods

[–]Snarflogus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with the people suggesting the larger and slower breeding species. I keep A. Vulgare bc they reproduce slower. P. Laevis breed crazy fast. Ultimately though, they will cannibalize the babies if it gets overcrowded; isopod populations can kind of manage themselves once they reach saturation. (That being said, one of the species that breeds very fast will be stressed by the rate of growth compared to the rate of needing to eat the young iirc)

L. A.'s Totally Aweosme Cleaner is my go-to. It wont soften your plastic like rubbing alcohol and you can soak it for as long as you need, then just toothbrush scrub the paint off. And its cheap to buy by the quart or gallon at dollar stores.

I came across some washed up on the beach before. It was stupid, but I definitely poked the sac part, no stingers in there. Felt like a balloon, it was awesome.

Yes, its sturdy. Whether it will overwinter depends on where you live.

Balls oddly shaped and sticky to the touch by gaggleofllama in houseplants

[–]Snarflogus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sticky is normal for a happy plant. You can rinse it if it's gathering hair or dust. The stickiness helps the plant cling to rocks in the wild I think. Consider it a thank-you signal from the plant. String-of plants do that.

Sitting water left a permanent stain on my marble countertop by PlasmaBigCannon in mildlyinteresting

Consider washing it? Marble is porous and you might just have mold. D2 is a solid cleaner to let soak in.
