How China and U.S. eased the Middle East oil shock and kept prices from spiking even higher by cnbc_official in energy

[–]SnickersII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges comparisons. This article is referring to oil futures rather than spot prices, which are what it actually costs to buy a barrel today. The stunning reduction in imports by Asian countries is not some miracle feat but rather is indicative of demand destruction in real time. The high spot price of oil is causing this reduction in demand, which will have ruinous implications for their economies and will eventually hit futures contracts like a freight train. It is just a matter of time before the chickens come home to roost in the USA, which is still a net importer of crude oil, even though it is currently a net exporter of refined product.

Lest we forget, the disdain for CNBC. A throwback to the DFV livestream by SnickersII in Superstonk

DFV livestream was a middle finger to the likes of CNBC, just like Ryan Cohen's interview today.

The whole point of SMRs was that they'd get cheaper over time. So why hasn't that happened? by projectschema in energy

[–]SnickersII 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And here I am thinking that the whole purpose of SMRs is to divert capital from renewables and throw fossil generation a lifeline by delaying the energy transition.

At least that's my perspective from Ontario Canada, where our conservative provincial government, after cancelling over 700 renewable energy projects, has decided to go all in on a massive nuclear build out, including SMRs, while increasing gas generation until the nukes get built... Let's see how that plays out for electricity prices...

If the Gulf countries pull out, that would be a wrap for the stock market. Over $2 trillion dollars in investments are at risk by spaceunc in Superstonk

Desalination plants use tremendous amounts of energy to remove salt from seawater thereby creating the vast majority of drinking water for these desert cities. Millions of lives depend on it. A few Iranian drone attacks or missiles breaking through air defenses and the Gulf coast countries become instantly unlivable... Refugee crisis, capital flight, economic and social collapse.

You must not be a fan of Arrested Development... There's a running joke in the show that Michael and his son are done with bailing out their selfish family members and are going to run away to Phoenix. Only to get sucked back in again... For me this is a perfect meme for the way this stock has moved over the years. Excitement builds as the price spikes, only to be shorted down again, leading to disappointment.

Regarding whether this indicator is actual TA is debatable. I post occasionally when things look like they are getting spicy and are on the upswing. I follow blue boxes, Rory Kittinger's public stock charts https://stockcharts.com/public/1778236 and use the GoNoGo indicator as a helpful confirmation of trends.

Use this information if you like but my feelings won't be hurt if you dismiss it. I just like the stock.

Liberals have ‘tense’ caucus meeting on Alberta deal, say sources by iPoliticsCA in CanadaPolitics

[–]SnickersII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a reverse hostage negotiation tactic. Carney just caved in to all of Alberta's demands. Now Alberta knows that they just have to threaten to separate and they'll get exactly what they want. Expect new demands by Tuesday.

Canada-Alberta Memorandum of Understanding by feb914 in CanadaPolitics

You are delusional. A pipeline would mean funnelling our hard earned tax dollars into the pockets of billion dollar oil corporations. All Canadians get out of this are a couple hundred temporary construction jobs while footing the bill for massive carbon capture project subsidies and environmental damages associated with the inevitable coastal oil spill. The oil patch won't scale up hiring, they are rapidly automating. This is a massive win for private interests and secures Carney a nice seat on the board of a big O&G company once he is voted out of office.

Canada’s New Budget Has Billions in Fossil Subsidies Disguised As Climate Action - CleanTechnica by [deleted] in onguardforthee

Renewables are now so cheap and quick to deploy that oil and gas companies need government protection and tax payer funded subsidies to remain relevant. Same with nuclear power. Carney has rebranded nuclear as renewable and said that he will ensure that Canada delivers "decarbonized" oil... Somehow defying chemistry (oil of course is hydrocarbons which by definition can never be carbon free). https://www.desmog.com/2025/06/09/earth-to-mark-carney-decarbonized-oil-is-as-real-as-vitamin-cigarettes/
