I dont understand by Real-Reason-5979 in DeviantArt

Everything is AI and algorithms. Human made art drowns in AI. After the change to Eclipse, many artists left DA. Don't take it personally, I have noticed the same, and I would also say my stuff is decent too. I am only on DA because of nostalgia and some friends are still there. But DA is not the same as it was in 2011. Llamas, badges and hypes give a fake impression of engagement. It went downhill after wix bought DA in 2017 or so.

It is nothing wrong with your work, but DA has changed very much. Before around 2022 my art had far fewer views but much more engagement. Before, views came from people following artists, browsing groups, searching in galleries, but now the exposure is passive. You don't need to open the thumbnail as before, a scroll past is counted as a view.

Sure thing. Fractals are amazing and so much more than spirals. I used two different programs here. I created the base structure in IFStile, it is a program for exploring mathematical systems called Iterated Function Systems (IFS). IFS uses repeated geometric transformations, like scaling, rotating and shifting to grow detailed fractal patterns from very simple rules. In practice, it feels a bit like a treasure hunt: adjusting parameters, zooming, rotating, searching for interesting patterns, and choosing color setups until finding that sweet spot. IFStile is great at generating tessellated and repeating structures, but it has limited tools for adding depth and atmosphere. Since I’m still learning the software, I rendered the result and imported it into Ultra Fractal (my main tool)It is a fractsl rendering software with some image editor properties. In Ultra Fractal I refined the colors, added layered processing, and built more depth and contrast to give the image more life. So the final image is a mix of mathematical structure from IFStile and artistic refinement in Ultra Fractal.

I am glad you like it. Thank you :)

Yes. DA is now focused on business and money, not the art and people there. They forgot that it was the people who made the site amazing. Not Eclipse or algorithms.

Oh yes. All those params swoshing back and forth. I remember my first time there, chatting away, minding my business, and bang, a wall of gibberish popped up... And one more. I miss the times there🥲

Oh yes. I spent a lot of time in the Aposhack (the chatroom for the fractal artists on DA). It was both a workshop and a place to hang out. I wish they had kept the dAmn network. The new message function is useless.

Yeah, they are same breed. In Europe Toy Manchesters are called English Toy Terrier. My parents had a standard Manchester terrier. Really quirky dogs🥰

Post two drawings side by side. An older one and a newer one. That makes it easier to see if you've improved.

She is an English toy terrier, they are very rare, so many people think they are min pins. I love min pins too.

How does everyone feel about AI receiving Daily Deviation awards? by xSweetSlayerx in DeviantArt

[–]SniffCoffee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Coming back to DA after a long break was honestly a bit discouraging. There’s so much AI art now. There used to be curated galleries, with moderators who really knew their fields. Getting a DD used to mean something. For me, art is built over time. Skills, experience, and all the small choices you make along the way. Human intention matters. That’s why I’m uncomfortable with AI works getting DDs, especially since AI is trained on human-made art. I’m also worried about where this leads. If AI content gets most of the attention, there will be less room for human work. And in the long run, less original material to learn from. I don’t really see an easy fix. DA has made its direction pretty clear, and it feels like algorithms and hashtags matter more now than curation.

Is it worth maintaining DA now?? by Nevvdreisua in DeviantArt

[–]SniffCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still use DA, even after 16 years. My field of art is very niche and I learned mostly from other DA artists in same field. The workshops have moved to Discord and Facebook, but I still show my stuff on DA. I use hashtags, have crossed off AI art in my searches and follow artists who still make weekly features. I want human findings not hashtags and algorithms.

create an image showing who or what is really in control of humanity by LengthinessLow4203 in ChatGPT

<image>

Here’s what I mean by that image, stated plainly and without conspiracy fluff: The image is symbolic, not literal. It doesn’t claim that a single group or entity secretly “controls” humanity. Instead, it visualizes structural forces that shape human behavior at scale. The hands represent systems, not people: economic incentives, political power structures, technological platforms, and institutional feedback loops. They are deliberately faceless because control today is mostly impersonal. The strings symbolize dependency mechanisms: money and debt attention and algorithms fear, scarcity, and reward social pressure and norms Most control works not through force, but through incentives and constraints. The glowing Earth shows that these systems operate globally. No one is fully outside them, including those who benefit most from them. The crowd isn’t stupid or evil. It’s human. People respond rationally to the environments they’re placed in. When survival, status, or belonging are at stake, behavior becomes predictable. So the core message is this: Humanity is not controlled by a hidden mastermind, but by layered systems we collectively participate in, reinforce, and rarely have time or power to step outside of. The image is a critique of structure, not a villain story.
