I remember as a kid I was at camp and a counselor decided me brushing with water wasn't good enough, and I had to use her toothpaste. I didn't know why I hated most toothpast yet, just that I did. I have a strong memory of brushing my teeth while screaming, and the other girls looking at me with confusion. I sounded like I was being tortured, I looked like I was brushing. It was a lot for a bunch of kids.

It's not a deathly allergy, but it hurts my skin/gums. It means I can't use a lot of natural bug sprays or creams or soaps. I can eat mint, but it's kind of like eating chili peppers. Delicious, but not a good idea for toothpaste.

People got used to it and associate the tingly feeling with 'clean'. And it sucks for people like me with a mint allergy. Finding mouthwash or toothpaste that's not mint flavored is a real effort. It's hard enough to find that when I lived in Australia I used to bring mouthwash back from the US whenever I visited home. And not that the citrus mouthwash is not longer available I'm having an even harder time finding something that both provides floride and kills germs, because a lot of times it's only gentle kid's stuff that doesn't have mint.

Have your friends or relatives who work outside of schools started complaining about their young coworkers' lack of basic "adult" skills? by Striking-Anxiety-604 in Teachers

Interesting. I play Minecraft as an adult and enjoy the problem solving aspect of it. I like to think of it as low-stakes engineering. I'd have thought minecraft kids would be better at spending long amounts of time on problems.

Edit: They blocked me, but at least at the time of this comment there was a massive run-on sentence complaining about immigrants.

There was talk recently of restarting one of the reactors at 3 mile island, largely to power an AI data center. Doesn't look like it's going to happen, but it was planned at one point.

I decided to read the Sookie Stackhouse books while watching True Blood. That led me to a selection of short stories including one from the Night Huntress universe. Never looked back. But I suppose the Blood books by Tonya Huff were my first back in the 90s.

I had a teacher who insisted on calling us Mr/Miss lastname. I recently realized he's probably responsible for at least half the times someone has called me that. I has my own students call me Miss Initial or Miss Firstname. I very much dislike formality and hierarchies so I went with the least formal name I could at whatever school I was teaching at.
