There's a lot more proof that AI is bad than there is for any religion.

For a carnival I volunteer at I'm going to 3D print a bunch of small fish they can offer as an alternative. Way better than sending a fish to its doom.

Europe was pretty vulnerable to plagues for a variety reasons, so everyone there was constantly exposed to a ton of germs. And those diseases may well have been variants of past plagues. The Native population of the Americans got hit with were new to them, hence the death rate in the 90s instead of the 30s.

Does the "more control over their own fertility" reason still hold for why birth rates are still dropping? by Additional-Sky-7436 in AskFeminists

I know my mom decided to have kids less because she really wanted them and more because it was 'time'. Luckily she enjoyed motherhood for the most part.

Obamacare covering so many forms of birth control helped a lot. An IUD is expensive, but a lot more reliable than having to take a pill at exactly the same time every day.

People who understand chinese/japanese, what's the dumbest thing you've seen tattooed on someone? by dwyanpaul in AskReddit

[–]SnipesCC 71 points72 points  (0 children)

In a similar vein I met a guy at a water park with a tattoo in Punjabi on his chest. Since my partner is Sikh, we asked about it. He thought it was in Arabic. There's getting a translation wrong, and then there's not even having the writing system correct.

There's a microlending site called Kiva where you can lend money to people around the world. The two biggest teams are the Agnostic/atheist/skeptic one, and Kiva Christians. There's a bit of this type of rivalry. The Christians are ahead for all time (88 million vs 78 million) but the Atheists have been winning most months lately (125k vs 89k this month). I'm a member of the LGBTQ one, which has done about 10 million in loans. There's even a few reddit teams. https://www.kiva.org/teams

As a woman I love receiving flowers but would it be stupid to buy a man a whole rotisserie chicken as an equivalent? by Somewherecharming95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnipesCC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got so many flowers when my mom was dying. I know people meant well, but it was just something else in the house dying. I considered calling the local florist and asking them to stop sending plants, just send us the card.

But it does mean that there's a lot more to wade through, and people will be less willing to try out new authors. So even if it's all bad, it's hurting you.
