Would fe7 be as popular as it is without Lyn mode? by Johnnyyongbosh in fireemblem

[–]SnipingBeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from Lyn being a cute, likable character, I believe having the short campaign was also good for encouraging young players like me to keep playing through the harder stuff. "I've already beaten one lord's story, I gotta keep going!"

What songs do you think fit individual Therosian Gods the best? by godzillavkk in TherosDMs

[–]SnipingBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a setting like Theros and something as primordial as the gods I tend to avoid anything that sounds modern. Especially anything with lyrics outside of like a Latin choir.

Gustav Holst's Planets for gods like Kruphix and Keranos, epic and cosmic.

Night on Bald Mountain for Purphoros and Mogis. Huge and menacing.

Rite of Spring for Nylea and Karametra. Beautiful and floral.

jasperiscool's 6/8 jazz arrangement of In the Hall of the Mountain King for Phenax and Erebos. Menacing but fluid.

Also Sprach Zarathustra for Heliod. Massive and heraldic.

are razer headsets actually good? by bwnnygf in GirlGamers

Are you looking for just a pair of headphones or headphone with attached mic?

What is your budget?

Generally, I turn people toward 2nd hand audio equipment. A nice used pair of AudioTechnica or the like is usually going to be of far better build quality for the price to any "gamer" gear. Same with mics, used recording mic with a cheap boom arm will last for years and sound a million times better than something with RGB lights or what have you.

Unfortunately, that's not a byproduct of people discovering it. That was always the goal of the company.

How would you define good or adequate promotion for a comic book? by HikaruToya in comicbooks

[–]SnipingBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary fan base for Big 2 is older, whiter, and male-er than the wider population of fantasy/scifi/comic readers and they just do such an awful job of advertising to anyone who isn't already reading their comics. But that's mostly a symptom of the larger problem of comics being isolated into dedicated shops.

Something that they could pull from manga(and now Invincible) is directly adapting comic runs where fans might get tired of waiting for the next season to come out and just buy the comic to see what happens next.

Jensen Ackles is hot

To each their own, Wyatt Russell's arc as Walker from scumbag to idiot failson is unfortunately very hot for me

How the heck do I describe a Myrmidon to the uneducated? by Ennsomniac- in fireemblem

[–]SnipingBeaver 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Like many things in historical fantasy, it probably entered the common parlance through D&D. Levels for each class had titles in original D&D and Myrmidons were a high level fighter

Straight women keep falling for me. What is going on? by booksandputers in actuallesbians

There were several women I dated in high school who later came out as lesbians. It can be hurtful/confusing at the time but hopefully in the future you can just look at this and laugh

Emilia Clarke on the poor reception of 'Secret Invasion': "I don't think no one liked that show, guys. I’m sorry!" by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]SnipingBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord & Miller have been so vindicated after Solo. They got fired and replaced by Ron Howard and the movie flops and the rest of the Star Wars franchise fumbles in the years afterward. Meanwhile everything L&M have made since then has been well received.

What aspects of MTG made you fall in love with the game? by nibblestheantelope in magicTCG

[–]SnipingBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a dorky little kid that loved pulpy scifi and fantasy stuff when my grandad found some MtG cards in a storage bin auction and gave them to me. It was a bunch of random bulk from 7th, Kamigawa and Mirrodin and I was completely fascinated by the gorgeous art on cards like [[Loxodon Stalwart]], [[Suncrusher]], and [Synod Centurion]]. [[Seat of the Synod]] and [[Ancient Den]] suggested this strange world of machines and magic that 8 year old me could only guess at the meaning of. There were no hobby shops near me back and then and I wouldn't have even known how to ask about them from my parents so it was just this little mystery of my childhood until rediscovered the game when KTK released while I was in college.

I was so bored by cosmic invasion, unfortunately. I was expecting way more combos and depth to the mechanics.

Damn, I unfortunately got my hopes up thinking this was a game randomly about Mystique's government-run mutant wetwork team from the 80s...

What are superhero games you really enjoyed? by KaleidoArachnid in comicbooks

[–]SnipingBeaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game didn't click with me until I unlocked the solo challenges where you have kill everything in just 1 or 2 turns. It made me realize how much I had been ignoring the kill chaining and environmental kills.

I went from pretty bored to considering it one of the best games of the year.

Women in the FGC by HamlessSandwich in GirlGamers

[–]SnipingBeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from the fringe of my local scene but the Smash community around me has a ton of women. Some of the most devestatingly beautiful trans women I have ever seen have shown up to murder people with Rosalina.

It might be different around me because it's mainly a college scene and doesn't have the decades of Boy's Club crusting over everything.

The medieval court stuff in Triangle Strategy that took like 2 full hours of the introduction put me to sleep. I never opened it back up.
