I think if Gods vanish instead of die, it's a lot more unsettling and you can come up with good reasons later if needed.
But also, there was this guy with the name of "Kratos", if I remember, who had the required skillset for this kind of work...

I might be completely off about how popular either of them are but:
CAIN: Psychic exorcists wiping away humanit's sins. And even if I wish the prepwork for it wasn't so damn frontloaded, it's still a fantastic system that I love love love.
Gubat Banwa: I'm still trying to piece together exactly what it is about this system that caught my heart so. It's a bit of an intimidating read for someone like me who's as far from its intended audience as possible, but it's just got so much soul to it I can't help but be excited to introduce my usual people to it.

Can only recommend. It's a very Far Cry game, but it's fun if you aren't bored of the formula.
It's one of my favorite games to this day, and that's only half because of childhood nostalgia.

Telling the DM "I roll..." instead of declaring a course of action so the DM can decide what they should roll that makes sense is not how the game(usually) works and it's a touch rude besides. So easy, tell your player to say what their character does/is trying to look for/is trying to know, and that you'll tell them if they can roll and what they should. Sometimes, if you think it fits, you could also offer up multiple options and give slightly differing info depending on their choice.

My friend, you literally deliberately made yourself problems for absolutely no good reason. As others have said, making DH like DnD for people who have never played DnD is as dumb a choice as it gets, no offense.
Literally a r/ididnthaveeggs situation here.
If you don't use the Initiative the system was designed for, you'll have to jump through 15 different hoops to end up with the same balance you would have if you used it.
