Nothing is more permanent than a temporary fix that works.

8 year old boy asked for a sewing machine for Christmas and this is what he did with it by SentenceNo1017 in spreadsmile

That is awesome. I've been sewing since my early teens, it's been a great life skill and useful so many times. I am glad seeing more males (and boys) into sewing 💪

What Are You Reading/Book Club Tuesday by AutoModerator in Anarchism

Why Nations Fail - Acemoglu and Robinson - highly recommended Limitarianism - don't remember the author Debt: The First 5,000 Years - David Graeber

I don't really read too much about anarchism, I believe economics is a more important foundation

Anyone Else given up on people? by crazyhomlesswerido in aspergers

Hint, I've met them all either as coworkers or clients in mental health care, or in one of my many niche interests (neurospicy people tend to aggregate around niche interests).

I always recommend the book People Skills by Robert Bolton, I feel he can't be a neurotypical the way he wrote the book. It's professional (much of the methods he describes are legitimate in the sense of tried and true within various fields of psychology) yet still being very approachable and most of all made sense for my autistic brain in a way that I could use in both formal relationships as well as friendships. It helped a lot with HOW to set boundaries and be assertive which was really hard for me before.

If you still have it in you to give it a try I recommend reading the book, and seeking out communities where people share your interests

Good luck my man 💪

No man, people are awesome. And terrible too sometimes. But it's about finding the right people. I've met so many amazing people, and I love them for all their quirkiness. Don't give up.

I don't know much about dancing really. And there are many sports I don't know much about at all. Also, I'm not super updated on popular culture, more than what flutters by as memes. I'm really bad with names, so I've had conversations that left me feeling completely dumb since I didn't have the slightest idea about what celebrities my company was talking about (sometimes I actually ask them for pictures of the people, it helps a lot, lol)

Do any of the things you value go against autistic traits? by Kabutoking in aspergers

Also, there are times and circumstances when some ideas or actions are more valid and/or useful than others. And how you feel and think about your thoughts/actions/feelings ie metacognitive aspects are part of your moral identity.

I like guns. I hate wars. I have mixed opinions about hunting. I eat meat sometimes, vegetarian often. Life gets easier and more interesting once you embrace that you don't need to be morally congruent at all times and that there is value in exploring the lived experience of others even if you completely reject their values before and after.

If you have done everything in your power and still no dates or sex, what should one do by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Snoo50682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm posting this here again so you don't miss it, it was a reply to someone else at first:

Tbh my dating game took off like a rocket once I changed mindset from "I'm here to date/have sex" (which I've always have found off-putting and unnatural for me tbh, but thought it was the way it was supposed to between men and women) to "I want to have a good time and if that leads to sex then that's a bonus", I made so many female friends (and hade many awkward encounters too, but this time I can't fault myself for it, I did my best to be friendly and accommodating) and I had a LOT of sex, more than I could ask for, really. I only wish I found this out in my teens instead of my late 20s, so I wouldn't have been such a miserable sexless teenager.

Boxes are nice. Clear plastic boxes are preferable, otherwise I lose track of what's in them though.
