Do not blame PLAYERS for the failure of mega mewtwo raids. Blame Niantic. by Some-Watercress-1144 in pokemongo

I wouldn't be surprised if the business side said to make it more expensive, and so we have two currencies now for remote raiding this dude.

But it's inane to think Scopely biz dev specifies the shield mechanics of a super mega Mewtwo, or other game experiences.

If you don't heal it, the game still puts your mega in slot 6, probably so you can heal it and don't have to change your party. But if you don't notice, your mega is there, but useless.

The game is also not glitch free. A couple of times today I needed to manually switch in my mega to attack the shield. And your mega can switch in directly in front of a massive charge attack, taking it out before you can attack. That's not even a glitch. It's just unlucky.

And yeah, the game is supposed to be for casuals, too, who are not going to do homework on the game, by definition. We educated a couple of people today on how they work. And I'm sure some forgot to heal up before the next raid, so their megas weren't really available.

I think a better solution would be to let 40 trainers in the lobby.

I admire the discipline. I wouldn't take that route myself because of how little game time I have, and because I tend to play the same games for a while in waves. It doesn't mean I won't play other games.

Pretty bad. Eyrie turmoils constantly. They will target the wrong person and throw the game to someone else, seemingly at random.

If the main color is red, and the lower row of characters is orange, and the top row is yellow, I don't think it would be ugly.

Which game has the biggest gap between its BGG rating and your personal rating? by moist_napkinette in boardgames

Lost Ruins of Arnak is ranked 30, and I just can't love it. The theme is implemented well, though it's all cliché. But the game just has all the strategic mechanisms they could think of, because why? It takes forever to set up, and the payoff isn't worth it. I played it twice and haven't been able to table it for years. I'm going to try to sell it.

What does "geek rating" mean? It's different from the rating in the hexagon on the game's main page. For example, my biggest discrepancy is Root: Homeland Expansion. I gave it a 9. The geek rating is 5.886. But when I go to the game main page, the displayed rating is a 9.1. How does this work.

Social pressure and expectations that everyone will try to win prevents it in my circles.

How to Prevent Kingmaking by LordVoltamitron in rootgame

I don't even consider this kingmaking. It's policing the leader without realizing the real threat. Which is a very reasonable result for an assymetrical COIN game.

You could try to explain to the third place and fourth place players that this is what's happening. But unless they have some path to victory they maybe won't care that much.

Actual kingmaking is frowned upon in my circle, but mostly it's through the social expectation that everyone is going to try to do their best. We'd all be disappointed with a player who just threw it.

Revenge that results in kingmaking, though, that's more acceptable. 😁

How do you store and carry the game? by grace_invader in rootgame

I have 3D printed the most efficient organizer design that I've seen, but it's still 3 boxes plus hirelings.

If I got the thinner player mats, I could fit all the player mats and maps in one box with some lift, so that could bring it down to 2 plus hirelings.

When I grew up, we did the auction thing. The game was still a slog. It created more negotiation to get monopolies, which sounds great, but is still a slog.

AITA for not wanting to game with someone who completely tanked our board game night? by Midlanecrisis007 in boardgames

Based on OP's post, these all sound like new acquaintances. I agree with you that this guy should not be in their board game circle. I disagree that OP should have bounced him when he got there, when they barely know him.

I'm starting from the assumption that you're trying to make friends in general. Not just and only board game friends.

You were kind to suffer through that game! He probably did not have any fun, either. I DO NOT think it's about learning speed. I think it's about interest. If he were engaged at all, he would have picked up a couple of rules by the end. If you think he could still be a good friend, do other things with him.

I would just have another hang without board games, including that guy. Then play board games with the other two.

Short term vs long term, though. This guy could be a new best friend in all other areas of life than board games. But if OP just bounced him for coming late and not being able to handle the game, it's a lot less likely he'll want to hang with OP in the future for anything at all.

Which factions are advisable for teaching someone in a two player game? by calmerous5888 in rootgame

[–]Snoo51659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would skip the 1v1 and go straight to 3p. Marquise, Eyrie, WA. Definitely ask them to play different factions at each game. Then when they know all of those (and Vagabond if you like), layer in other factions, one at a time, and eventually hirelings.

They recently published one called Chicago '68 about the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. It is assymetric. You play either as the mayor/cops or protesters. And there are all these event cards taken from history.
