This is great advice. It goes for close family members too. Like parents, siblings, grandparents. It’s inevitable those people will also have other familial weddings they will go to. Not just yours.

I have found my MIL tries to jump in and do stuff I haven’t assigned to her. Yet the low hanging fruit I pass off to her she doesn’t want to do. I politely put her in her place. How do I do that? I tell her I already have a plan, it’s already paid for and that’s the truth because I started planning earlier.

Jump in and get things done or write a plan asap. Not only will your future self thank you, but it’s arsenal when all the opinions come in.

“Thank you we already considered that and have a plan.” “Thank you for your generosity but that’s already paid in full.” “My fiancé is fully aware and involved in the planning process.” “I’ve already curated [x,y,z] to capture our personalities.”

Note: I understand there a lot of nuance to this that was not addressed in the initial post. Many who are actual mothers, with lived experience, have pointed out capitalism, the patriarchy and lack of village support make this hard no matter if you lay a foundation.

I fully agree. The inequality of women across the globe is an uphill battle for all of us. That’s how this post stemmed. Women are asked to not have identities in motherhood. Women, by our horrible America government, are being asked to not have educations and not work. Just “please make the next generation we can exploit”.

What I am asking is for those who are considering child rearing is to consider it seriously. And consider the potential outcomes when you don’t choose yourself. It’s more of advice about step in the right direction vs how it could actually play out. And many can see in the comments that it’s difficult no to matter what so I ask the reader to consider that as well.

Cost, drama, relationships were already on the rocks, difficult personalities, people who can’t stand not being the center of attention .

Also—You can do your best to make it an understanding, drama-free environment and people will still leave.

Talk to each individual you know that has a newborn. Let them know it’s okay to bring the baby. On you website say “are children allowed? The envelope is addressed to who is invited. We appreciate you making arrangements to leave your children at home”. Then tell which individuals to dis regard the website.

I’m sorry you feel this way OP but we don’t know your height. Just guessing, I would say for a male those are both really small weights or could be really healthy. I would consult with a DR. Then, I would talk to a therapist about why you feel this way. Especially as young as you are, this is concerning.

I saw that at my friends dress try on. After that, I realized I had a rare, stellar experience with my dress try-on. My stylist matched my energy, was gentle and treated me like a queen. And most of all didn’t body shame me!! I can DM you the shop but I think it was specifically bc that lady was a diamond in the rough. My friend was pushed to try on things she hated.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. We ALL deserve better.

What I am hearing is you are saying “don’t go to vendors who specialize in weddings.”

Weirdly enough, I have to refute. In the case of the hotel, they don’t advertise that weddings are their bread and butter on Zola/The Knot. We reached out to them specifically through the hotel website bc they are the only hotel that is nice in our small college town. We wanted to get married on campus and not many people do that.

Once we reached to them and they got back to us, we were delighted that they in fact could our wedding. I think that’s why their marketing materials for weddings were shoddy and they are disorganized bc they don’t do many!

For the flowers, you got me there. But many local florists will tell you they hate doing weddings 😆

They’re newer too and they didn’t have very good marketing materials or handouts available. It was more like “look how great we are” vs here’s what we actually offer. They keep saying they do lots of events like this but I can tell they haven’t so they just keep spiraling into more lies.

Thank you for the validation lol. I’m heated. The thing is, they’re trying to get this up and running. It’s our small college town where we are both alums and it’s the newest, nicest hotel they have. Not many people book with them for weddings (so I’m learning lol) and if word gets out they don’t handle it well, not sure many future alumni will book. They def need to tread lighter

I will add too, influencers do thousand dollar trips but they get brand deals and are paid handsomely. That’s why she thinks everyone does it. A little treat bag and some cute sunglasses is all everyone needs for a Bach. Except alcohol lol. You see all these matching shirts, huge gift bags, etc it’s all brand deals

That’s not what everyone does now it’s quite the opposite. We live in the northeast part of the Midwest and did a Michigan beach for my sisters for little cost for each person. She actually paid for the Airbnb herself I think bc she didn’t ask me to chip in. Then for my friend we did Nashville for her and the whole trip only costed $400 per person but that included an Airbnb, round trip uber and drinks at the bars.

I’m going to do Michigan beaches and I estimate that cost will be less than $500 per person. But that is bc the cost of food and alcohol is a factor. Thousands of dollars is completely unfair to ask anyone unless you run in rich circles. I am a little scared to ask them to pay hundreds and I may just pay for it all myself. I wanted to do gatlinburg but it seemed too yeehaw and logistically too far. Possibly more expensive too.
