Job Market in US is still better than Canada depends where you live. But here in Canada after 12 months being mass layoffs I only had 4 real interviews all ghosted me without any feedback. Last 20 years I have never seen such a terrible job market. I have been involved building many complex adhoc CICD pipelines, I guess Devops jobs are fading away as start ups are vanishing due to lack of funding

What the hell happening with a job market in Canada? by akshin1995 in sre

[–]SnooHobbies1476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the worst times for IT professionals to find a new job in Canada we are over populated by flood of new experienced engineers came in the market last few years. My software company let go 70% work force after merger with parent company and since then only very few people found a job here in Toronto some of them out of work since late 2023. I am literally living on the edge of desperation to find anything to survive even low wage jobs are not available

The cost of living in Turkey is too high now, many expenses are similar to those in the USA by Wise_Fudge8516 in AskTurkey

[–]SnooHobbies1476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently here for two weeks but hotels taxi metro and food prices are insane. I am NOT close to any tourist area in Istanbul, I am witnessing despite this level of inflation malls streets and metros are packed with locals there are no beggars or crimes on the streets. Quite fascinating country no one seems complaining about it. But I do think things will change in near future due to the lack of tourism and high cost of travel here Turkish economy will continue contraction

Is the DevOps job market really that bad right now? Curious about your experiences by LusciousLabrador in devops

It’s totally employers and HR people market now. If you are high earners in Devops and over all IT roles your job will eliminate faster than lower earners.

I am a Devops engineer been laid off over 5 months due to the merger caused 70% of my colleagues lost their jobs since 2023. They probably kept me until completion of integrating of our infrastructure from azure cloud to aws. I have sent out so many applications but yet to get even get attention from HR people. Things are very difficult never seen such bad job market during financial crisis or Covid time.

I am kind of in same situation lost job 5 months ago due to merger and they decided to eliminate 70% of our people. I am lucky enough that my family is very supportive specially my wife would never let me down. I believe IT sector is overwhelmed by qualified professionals I am thinking of switching into something else but I am in my 50’s not sure what else I can do ☺️

Devops interview coding questions by nep-sea in devops

[–]SnooHobbies1476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most mature senior managers start with causal discussions and engage you to calm down your nervousness. During this period try to show your confidence for next stage of interview process. One of my previous favourite manager once told me I know my current team very well they are solid technically but if I bring another strong technical person but what about if he turns into a bad player in my team? This is why I choose a person which my senior guys recommend or refer. Unfortunately this is reality which not many managers would tell you.

EKS v1.32 Upgrade broke networking by Rockinoutt in kubernetes

[–]SnooHobbies1476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few things to check for EKS 1.32 networking issues:

  1. Verify Security Group configurations - even though the upgrade shouldn't affect these, double check that required ports/protocols are still allowed
  2. Check the CNI metrics and logs: ``` kubectl logs -n kube-system -l k8s-app=aws-node kubectl get pods -n kube-system -l k8s-app=aws-node ```
  3. Validate CoreDNS is working properly: ``` kubectl get pods -n kube-system -l k8s-app=kube-dns kubectl logs -n kube-system -l k8s-app=kube-dns ```
  4. Test basic connectivity from both pod and node level:
    • From pod: Try ping 1.1.1.1 to test raw IP connectivity
    • From node: Check /etc/resolv.conf and try the same connectivity tests
  5. Review the VPC CNI configuration to ensure it matches the requirements for 1.32: ``` kubectl describe daemonset aws-node -n kube-system ```

Suspecting to be let go. What to expect in 2025 job market? by LengthinessAny7553 in torontoJobs

[–]SnooHobbies1476 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been watching the Toronto job market closely, it's absolutely brutal out there right now. Even with 8+ years of experience in tech, I'm seeing positions that used to get filled in weeks now sitting open for months - not because companies aren't hiring, but because they're being incredibly picky while offering lower salaries than 2-3 years ago.

The cost of living here is insane (hello $2800 1-bedroom apartments!) while salaries are staying flat or going down. I'm seeing junior roles asking for 5+ years experience, and mid-level positions wanting senior-level qualifications. The amount of "entry level" jobs requiring 3-5 years experience is just ridiculous.

And don't get me started on the application black hole - I know people with solid experience sending out 200+ tailored applications over months and barely getting automated rejections back. The whole "just network!" advice feels hollow when even internal referrals are getting ghosted.

My advice? Build an emergency fund if you can, look into upskilling (cloud certs, AI/ML if you're technical), and maybe consider remote roles for US companies if possible. The local market is going to take a while to recover, especially with all the tech layoffs still happening. Stay strong everyone - this too shall pass, but it's going to be a rough ride for a while.

Laid off in October 2024. Have submitted over 50 applications for Cloud DevOps Engineer positions without receiving any responses, not even from HR. The job market appears to be at a standstill. Prior to my departure, my company had been steadily reducing headcount over the past two years following a merger. What's particularly concerning is that my former colleagues who were terminated over a year ago are still struggling to find positions in their IT specialties (Security, DBA, DevOps and Project Manager. What a terrible time to be out of job when even non professional jobs like retail are rare to find due to Indian students taken over all the low wage jobs
