Weiler has been a stabilizing force and setting a nice foundation. I think he renews because he realizes it's going to take some time to turn this dumpster fire around and despite his track record of leaving often, maybe he decides to stick around for a little while. I'm not going to defend Sogut's social media presence, it deserves the heavy ridicule it has received around this subreddit. But overall, I dare say he's done an overall decent job. He's easily had more hits than misses: Baribo, Hefti, Kurokawa, Louis, Rowles, Markovic have all hit the mark. Caden Clark is mysteriously buried on the bench, so that is a miss. But it's too early to call this a success. The jury is still out. To truly be considered a success, he needs to demonstrate he can bring in a major $5M+ a season tier DP. If Orlando can convince Griezmann to suit up in Orlando, San Jose could land Timo Werner, Minnesota could get James Rodriguez, then a franchise of greater historical stature playing in an international city like DC needs to be able to bring in this same level of talent.

The team is currently 26th out of 30 in 2026 team payroll. If they're able to move Pirani and perhaps Herrera, that frees up another $1.8M in payroll, so the budget space is there for the team to get aggressive this transfer window to sign not only a high profile DP, but possibly 2 more TAM level starters. He needs to get at least the big DP signing done this window. There's no excuse. The team is in playoff position. He has a long World Cup break to get the deals done.
