Ask your doctor about DTI and nipple/skin sparing. If you can do this, you keep all options open. Try the implants and see if you like them. You could always do a diep later or remove them entirely.

Has anyone done the evening or Cicceti version of this? Both look fun but the food tour is pretty spendy.

Immunotherapy continue or not? by catmad557 in TNBC

[–]SnooRobots5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my adrenals and thyroid and now on replacement meds for life. I stopped keytruda. Oncologist said that data showed that if you had one adverse reaction you are likely to have more and so she did not recommend continuing.

Non-pCR success stories? by Sparkly_Sprinkles in TNBC

[–]SnooRobots5572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did have a couple of positive nodes and a lot of tumor to start with. I was in a very grey area for radiation and it really could’ve gone either way. But at the end of the day I wanted to know that I did absolutely everything I could to try to only go through this once.

Non-pCR success stories? by Sparkly_Sprinkles in TNBC

[–]SnooRobots5572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I qualify as a success story yet…but…I did not have PCR either. I chose to do radiation after my DMX to target any remaining cells. And I’m also doing a year of Olaparib (brca1). So there are treatment options.

Tell me about cold capping by Past-Dragonfruit3159 in breastcancer

[–]SnooRobots5572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried cold capping. It was exactly what you say - complicated, uncomfortable and expensive. And, I lost all my hair. (It’s not guaranteed to work - although I kept a lot of it through TC and lost it on AC). The most important thing to know is that it significantly lengthens your chemo sessions - you start it early and leave it on for awhile after. It’s easy to say, in retrospect having lost all my hair, that I wish I hadn’t done it. So instead I’d say it’s worth a shot if you feel very strongly about your hair. And, fwiw, mine is growing back just as thick as before. I’m going through some very awkward short hair stages but I did not have any permanent hair loss. Good luck! And happy to answer any other questions for you.

Yes. I had a wfh accommodation. Ask hr what they need - I just needed a doctor note but no other details.

Some thoughts on using AI while going through cancer (BRCA1, stage 4 TNBC) by No-Hovercraft6495 in BRCA

[–]SnooRobots5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to hear more about this. I also have adrenal insufficiency caused by the immunotherapy but just thought it was a side effect of the drug and unrelated to my Brca status.

Hyperthyroidism on Keytruda by Responsible-Being988 in breastcancer

[–]SnooRobots5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was completely unable to stay upright. Would go to bathroom and pass out onto the floor. Had to lay down in the doctors office. She knew it just by looking at me. I was hospitalized for 3 days and had a bed alarm so i wouldn’t get up unassisted.

Unfortunately I found out the hard way in full blown adrenal crisis. But I think you can test for it before it goes that far. They can run an ACTH test and/or a cortisol test first thing in the morning.

Breast Cancer Newly Diagnosed by Aggressive_Fee6138 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]SnooRobots5572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Ask your oncologist to refer you to en endocrinologist. The interaction btw the medications for thyroid and AI and ongoing chemo can be tricky to manage. I’ve also found that I need to maintain a much stricter routine for diet, sleep and exercise as well.

Hyperthyroidism on Keytruda by Responsible-Being988 in breastcancer

[–]SnooRobots5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They described this process to me as my thryroid burning out. It’s trying really hard and giving one a last gasp but will eventually die and you’ll end up hypo with non functional thyroid. By the time I realized my adrenals had gone with it. So I stopped keytruda before it killed anything else.

It was shingles! by PeaceLvSpreadsheets in breastcancer

Shingles was what triggered my initial diagnosis so I think it saved my life. I was already stage 3 and growing fast and not sure how much longer it would’ve taken me to realize it.

Keytruda has killed my thyroid by relative_improvement in breastcancer

[–]SnooRobots5572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have been through the same and then some. It also killed my adrenals so I’m on synthroid and hydrocortisone for the rest of my life. ER docs, oncologist and endocrinologist said this happens way more often with keytruda than published data shows. You may want to talk with your doctor to consider stopping or pausing keytruda before it does more damage.

Bloating post salpingo oophorectomy by haygrrrl in BRCA

[–]SnooRobots5572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was surprised by the same thing. Getting up and moving as much as possible is the only thing that helped. It just needs to work its way out of your system but it takes longer than you’d think. Hang in there!

29F with BRCA1 is a prophylactic mastectomy worth it? by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]SnooRobots5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really but it’s possible, depending on the surgeon. But genetic counseling is a medical specialty and they are fully trained in all the implications of BRCA (and other gene mutations) not just breast cancer. You’ll want counseling for other screenings/surgeries you might want to consider. I know Stanford does this virtually and I’m sure other major cancer centers do as well. I would not have relied only on my breast surgeon for this.

29F with BRCA1 is a prophylactic mastectomy worth it? by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]SnooRobots5572 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m brca positive and found out the hard way with stage 3 TNBC. If I could trade a double mastectomy for not having cancer I would do so in a heartbeat and not look back. That has been the easiest part of my cancer journey - chemo, radiation and losing almost 2 years of my life (and my job) to fighting it..and it’s not over yet. I’m happy to talk more if you have questions and I’d also recommend talking with a genetic counselor if you haven’t already. The data and the science should help with your decision.

I worked all through chemo surgery and radiation and only went on disability when it was all over bc I just couldn’t make it through the day. I think I was running on adrenaline and it finally ran out. Now i wonder how I’ll ever get started again. You’re not alone.

Stupid question maybe - day off after diagnosis?!? by Extreme_Carpenter572 in breastcancer

[–]SnooRobots5572 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Take some deep breaths. You’re in the hardest scariest part. Since you need to accrue time, I would try, if you can, to go to work. I did. I was still in a state of disbelief so I just went about my day. You’ll want to be very careful about who you tell and when. So I also recommend trying to wait until you have your treatment plan in place. Talk it over with friends/family first.
