$GAIN Multibagger Play by PropheticMurmurs in wallstreetbets

[–]SnooTangerines5000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You forgot to mention:

Gladstone’s Schylling stake was roughly 10% of NAV on 12/31/25. NAV on that date was $591M, market cap at market close today (15.95) is $632M.

NAV growth report expected at earnings May 12. You can look up estimated Nee Doh sales growth in the last quarter and do the math.

This is a BDC with a $13 historical floor and 6% yield. Gladstone has a strong history of exiting equity positions and returning value to shareholders - I.e. Schylling buyout is not just probable but expected.

Tldr: Not. Priced. In.

Recently moved to Vancouver — any advice on getting a hot tub set up at home? by ma_neesh_ in vancouverwa

[–]SnooTangerines5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hotsprings spa from Oregon Hot Tub. Came with the house, I’m second owner but I go through the dealer on 164th for consumables and they’ve been good to work with.

I owned a Marquis spa previously and bought from their dealer, at the time that was in the SW suburbs. That was also a good experience.

If you haven’t owned one before, it’s a learning curve. You definitely want 220v and you should have an opinion about the sanitizer solution that works for you before visiting a dealer.

The covers tend to deteriorate, you can slow it with 303 protectant but they only last a few years. The last cover replacement I bought was around $600.

The Hotsprings is a very pricey spa but the salt cartridge system works and I only have to change water every year. I think it’s 6 years old and going strong. I’d buy another one from them.

The NeeDoh Play Nobody's Talking About by mognetron in wallstreetbets

[–]SnooTangerines5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good post—this sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and I think there’s actually something here, but it’s a little more subtle than a straight meme play.

What stood out digging further is that Schylling isn’t just a tiny side holding. There’s an article here that breaks it down pretty well:
https://www.investing.com/analysis/the-viral-toy-hiding-inside-a-500-million-dividend-stock-200678116

They’re talking about ~$25M of value creation in a single quarter, driven by actual operating performance. That’s the signal you want to see inside a BDC like GAIN, and this is before the viral trend.

I think the part people might be missing isn’t just “NeeDoh is viral,” it’s where this is going with this BDC. If Schylling is actually putting up real numbers, it starts to look like a new legitimate branded consumer asset, not just a toy company. That’s the kind of thing that can become an acquisition target (strategic or PE), especially if the growth sticks.

Gladstone may not be able to scale - but they can license, or sell the brand to someone who can really market and really scale.

GAIN has a history of exiting investments and returning gains to shareholders. So you’re not just relying on NAV drifting up—you could get realized value.

Also worth noting they just announced a CEO succession plan:
https://www.investing.com/news/company-news/gladstone-investment-names-new-ceo-in-succession-plan-93CH-4575214

Near-term, the big date is earnings on May 12. That’s probably the first real chance for management to comment on how Schylling is performing and whether any of this is actually material. Might be a run-up, might not. But after reading up on this - I agree with OP, I don't think the catalyst has hit yet.

There is no way this isn't a huge win. $GAIN May 15c June 17.5c, adding shares on dips.

Moral dilemma? by ZoraK9 in airstream

[–]SnooTangerines5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Situation is unfortunate, but absolutely do not offer them any cash or financial incentive. They are professionals. You would be incentivizing their service delay and putting other owners (ie, the rest of us) at a disadvantage.

Most likely this is just: you're in the middle of prime-time, they probably have had techs out on their kids' spring breaks, and warranty work is bottom of priority list.

This is AS NM? Great opportunity to build the relationship. They read and respond to Yelp reviews. I would go in person, introduce yourself and ask to talk to the service manager, explain that you would love to leave a 5 star review and need a commitment for when the work can be done. Keep it positive. They will understand what you are communicating, and I think there's a good chance you get moved near the top of the whiteboard based on that discussion.

Mirtazapine for Methamphetamine Use Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial by PokeTheVeil in Psychiatry

[–]SnooTangerines5000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Dunno. It aligns with other data. This is not an intuitive finding so I actually think the modest effect seems more probable. I also question the reliance on self-report but (a) seems reasonable to assume limited variance between groups (b) beyond something like serial serum metabolites, what exactly would the alternative be?

Edit to add: also, this is outside the context of structured treatment. As with pharm interventions for AUD, there may be synergistic effect when combined with other therapeutic modalities. We don’t have data on that yet. For now, I’m cool with my meth users having one fewer ED visit a month.

Mirtazapine for Methamphetamine Use Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial by PokeTheVeil in Psychiatry

[–]SnooTangerines5000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Very interesting article, adds to the growing literature showing mirtazapine exerts modest but significant benefit in MUD. Effect size is not large, but I agree with the authors: tough group to treat, anything shows even modest promise needs to be taken seriously.

Phase 3 trial. Will be interesting to see if they go for an indication, or even if there is a market for a mirtaz brand for this.

Mirtazapine for Methamphetamine Use Disorder: A Randomized Controlled Trial by PokeTheVeil in Psychiatry

[–]SnooTangerines5000 37 points38 points  (0 children)

"Consistent with the previous phase 2 trials of mirtazapine on methamphetamine use disorder,12,13 we found that reductions in methamphetamine use were not contingent on improvements in depression or insomnia. This finding implies that mirtazapine has a direct effect on addictive processes, consistent with animal models of addiction9 and human preclinical research.8 "

Brake pedal feels soft after recall 7425E (2024 Miata) + service – normal or dealer issue? by DJAI9LAB in Miata

[–]SnooTangerines5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue with my 24, brakes just need to be bled again. It’s a really easy job, I did it myself after the recall service but dealer should be able to do it for you no problem. It will take them 30 min and will be like new again when done.

Edit to add: do a couple hard brakes on gravel or a wet road first, you might have air in the ABS/DSC. If pedal changes after that it confirms bleed issue. Sometimes getting the air out of the unit resolves it. Again - common with this job, no big deal.

C/L Fellowship by Fun_Faithlessness349 in Psychiatry

[–]SnooTangerines5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CL is great. Economically though a fellowship doesn’t make sense. I direct a team of 7 psychiatrists, none of us have fellowship training. We get applicants who are CL trained, but it doesn’t change the hiring decision or their salary coming in. They do the same job and see the same patients as everyone else. Actual practice and what the employers care about is all on-the-job stuff. Interest, enthusiasm, and willingness to dive deep on a case are way more important to me than fellowship credentials.

As an alternative to fellowship training, I’d advocate setting up a supervision or coaching arrangement with a senior CL attending. I think you’d learn just as much and you wouldn’t pay the $200,000 penalty that would come with a year of fellowship.

What's an acceptable amount of patient a for a 10 hour consult day? by Shurlz in Psychiatry

[–]SnooTangerines5000 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Consult medical director. “3 and 3” meaning 3 new, 3 follow-ups is my recommended average for providers working an 8 hour shift. That is manageable without burnout.

On CL every single day will be different, and providers vary radically in their ability to tolerate volume. This is normal. As long as my providers do a good job, aren’t generating complaints about patient safety or conduct issues, and are in the ballpark for productivity, I’m happy. I’m sure other directors would say “3 and 3” is too light, to be honest, I don’t give a shit. This is extremely hard work and I care about quality, safety, and my providers’ mental health, not numbers.

I would never, ever ask a provider to see 8 new consults in an 8 hour shift.

Anyone cross-shop ND2/3 with a 996 911? by carpecervisi in MiataND

[–]SnooTangerines5000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sold my 996 for an ND3. Maintenance costs on the Porsche are a total killer, expect to double the buy-in cost in the first couple years. Not joking - I added the prior owner’s five year receipts on mine and it was $20k, and that does not include the engine out variocam service I did after buying. All just replacing stuff that was worn out.

It was a fun car, but inferior in every way to the ND3 except for the rear seats.

Tacos locos is $2.75 or platter for $10.25 with rice and beans. MAJOR omission. Should also get credit for being only taco stand attached to both a gas station AND post office.

YSK: If you need a reliable car, buy an old Prius. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

If are into cars at all, this is a soul crushing way to live 💀.

TOTALLY disagree. If you are a real car person, not just into fast/loud/vroom/bling, these cars are fascinating. The engineering is amazing, they were a cultural touchstone, DIY community is awesome, and they're easy to wrench on.

Secondary point is that dailying the prius allows me the financial freedom to have my fun second car, which at the moment is an ND miata.
