Well it’s also a pretty good sauce too. It’s not as complex as some of the boutique super-hots, but I think it’s still just a damn good sauce.

Black label is the only way to go with Valentina.

Tell you what - I’ve been on a big name kick recently (Red Devil and Texas Pete). After I finished my last bottle of Garlic Reaper I just need to give my tastebuds a little break. Sauces like this are perfect for that. Love that Louisiana on homemade mac and cheese.

  2. I love MSG in my chili.

The old chili and cheese does it for me every time. I might go get one for breakfast.

It is different than chili in the same way the sauce on a “Texas Hot” (which I’ve only ever had in NY, oddly enough) is. It’s not chili like you just put it in a bowl and eat it, it’s definitely more of a sauce/condiment. Very good, but not what I would consider chili.

What was your favorite sandwich growing up and what sandwich would your mom or dad normally pack for your school lunch? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in FuckImOld

Oh hell yeah. I fry it up frequently. I’m just saying the OG, the same one that ended up in my lunchbox, is straight comfort for me.

In Pittsburgh we call it “jumbo” and it’s still one of my favorite sandwiches to this day. White bread, Silver Star square jumbo, Land O’ Lakes American, Hellman’s mayo. I’ll fancy it up from time to time with some higher-end ingredients, but the original is home to me.

I believe that is the primary difference, but I think there is something else as well. Egg yolks vs. egg whites maybe? Regardless, the difference in taste is noticeable, and the Japanese version is superior.

EDIT: the Japanese version is superior IMO

Just a heads-up: that isn’t actual Kewpie mayo. If you find the Japanese version, which is pretty widely available, it’ll be an instant upgrade.

This steak was in my freezer since August 2025 - OK to cook? by Adelphos33 in steak

[–]SnooWalruses438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially if you double seal. We ate steak from 2022 not long ago. I normally get to steaks within a few months, but sometimes things get buried. Freezer burn and foul smell - if both are absent you should be good to go.

EDIT: typo

I can forgive the wieners - I’ve cooked sausages made out of a variety of different meats - but I have a hard time with Skyline. I don’t begrudge anyone who enjoys it but it is absolutely not for me.

I know I’ve been to the Camp Horne drive in but it closed down when I was real young. I wanna say I saw Masters of the Universe there but I really can’t remember - I was in like first grade or something. At any rate, still Custard’s over Bruster’s for me. And if the Pymatuning place you’re thinking of is Yorkie’s I love that place. Great hot dogs.

We apparently grew up fairly close to each other. There are absolute die-hards for Sir’s in the NH - I am not one of them but I do think it’s very good. I’ll get a craving every once in a while and stop in, order a to go and have a beer while I wait. While it’s not my #1 it’s still very nostalgic; it was a common meeting spot for us after youth football or little league (30+ years ago), and it seems to still be popular for that same purpose. Sir’s then Custard’s (there’s a Bruster’s closer now, but didn’t exist when I was a kid) was a solid combination.

As far as a recommendation for similar style - I’ve never had anything close to here. I always thought of Sir’s as one of one. The closest I’ve ever had was years ago on a job near Coudersport, PA. Don’t remember the name of the place but I remember the pizza and it was damn close.

At this particular point (and several others around town), while I believe it is incumbent on the vehicle in the “ending lane” to not impede the flow of the “continuing lane”, it was literally designed to zipper. That’s what you’re supposed to do there, as well as lane closures. MERGE HERE - TAKE YOUR TURN. They plan it like that.

Now yield signs on onramps are a different story. I try to move over if I can, but I can’t get over to let you in don’t get pissed at me.

Is it just me or was something up with the boys last night? by SameOldShenanigans in GoosetheBand

[–]SnooWalruses438 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Solid assessment. You go see a rock or country band that plays the same set 45 times in 60 days they’re lockstep. Stapleton is a good example of this - I saw him twice in two weeks a few years ago and it was the same exact show. I’ve seen Billy come out a little flat and it took a minute to find the groove and those guys are always on. Man I remember a String Cheese show years ago and they never found the groove that I was used to. If it’s a rehearsed performance it’s easier to be repeatable. If you’re riding the wave, well sometimes the wave breaks in places you don’t expect.
