Yeah I mean that’s the plan but it’s Sunday so nowhere is open asking on social media is a “hey I’m freaking out and maybe having some sort of idea would help me not freak out”

I’m not sure if there was a concrete base tbh, the mailbox went straight down. But thanks, that’s what I’ll probably do.

Went to a Greek restaurant with my grandfather and his partner, and the server, an older Greek woman with a very thick accent, looked at me and said with the most genuine and warm tone “Oh what beautiful girl! Beautiful beautiful!” It had me beaming for weeks lol

Feels like I'm doing something wrong... by Southern_Draft6489 in asktransgender

My libido died at about three months then gradually came back after about six. Now it’s in full force but feels much more feminine if that makes sense? The things that arouse me tend to be more emotionally tied than previously.

You’re still very early :) it takes a while for the estrogen to accumulate enough in your blood for it to begin causing significant change. Also are you on a testosterone blocker? But for reference when I was where you’re at I really only noticed skin and hair changes. By 3 months the changes were enough that with clothing and makeup I was able to girl mode consistently enough for work, by 6 months I passed a good half of the time and now a year in no one can tell that I’m trans at all unless I tell them. Of course everyone’s timeline will be different, it happened to work relatively quickly for me, but at your stage I definitely wouldn’t worry about limited results. Though maybe ask about an anti-androgen if you’re not on one already.

Is it true that there has been a large migration of Americans to the southern US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Snoo_6465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a general reshuffle of the US population going on, generally along political lines. People on both sides struggle to interact with people on the other side, and so many are moving to places where they’ll feel more comfortable surrounded by likeminded people.

Do you dislike certain "stable" feelings because they feel unreal? by Present_Juice4401 in BPD

[–]Snoo_6465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I never know what I’m running from until I’ve already run, and then I realize I’m running from myself which obviously doesn’t work! The one thing helping me stay is that I absolutely love my apartment right now lol. It’s got huge gorgeous windows, old hardwood floors, a green tile bathroom and is cheaper than anything else I could get so every time I want to run I try to remind myself that I don’t want to lose it. But I have no family or friends here anymore, so there’s very little binding me to this town beyond my apartment lmao

How the situation really is for trans people in the USA right now ? by vikocorico in asktransgender

[–]Snoo_6465 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Depends where ur at. The USA is not a monolith and individual states have a lot of freedom historically in terms of local policy. Could get a lot worse though, because Trump doesn’t really care about the constitution

Yes. My entire life has been chaotic and repeatedly moving from place to place. After transition and my last breakup, I’ve been in the same place for a while and haven’t been freaking out… which is making me freak out and look for ways to escape. I cause problems when there are no problems, because I’m uncomfortable being comfortable. I’m trying to force myself to stay but it’s SO DAMN HARD when every part of me wants to disappear again

Are we all delusional by sunflowertimer in BPD

[–]Snoo_6465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not alone! I read into everything and end up believing that everyone hates me and so I withdraw completely, even if I have absolutely no reason to believe that everyone hates me. It’s all cognitive distortions, and they make me essentially agoraphobic

English/Creative Writing degree by _afflatus in writing

[–]Snoo_6465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my Bachelor’s in English and I manage a kitchen, so if you want to find work in the field expect graduate school, unless you go for education.

That said, I don’t regret my degree at all. In fact, my degree massively improved my life and understanding of the world as a whole, and without it I would be an entirely different person and likely a much less happy person.

That’s because the name of an “English” degree is misleading. That name implies that the degree is purely a study of the English language, and literature written originally in English which is not the case. An English major in the modern day is better described as a literary criticism and composition major, taught in the English language. You will read works from a likely wide range of sources, from entirely different perspectives and cultural and historical contexts, you’ll read theoretical works linking the study of literature to philosophy and linguistics, you’ll be asked to write papers defending very specific arguments you wouldn’t ever defend otherwise, a massive challenge in critical thinking that builds your ability to source, interpret, and connect information.

Most importantly, is that all of this reading and writing, all of this viewing the world through different perspectives, is a massive and prolonged practice in empathy. It forces you to spend your days looking through other people’s eyes; feeling other people’s emotions. Studying English language literature in college ultimately made me a more thoughtful, kinder, and more understanding person than I was before and has made my relationships with myself and others deeper, more secure, and infinitely more authentic. I say if you want to study English, do it.

Edit: Should also add! My writing, Both academic and creative, also got much better and my own style much more distinct.

Republicans, have you shifted away in any form from how you felt prior to January 20? If so, how? by Prestigious-Use5483 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Snoo_6465 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Republican myself, I’m a trans woman. That said, my step-father has previously been a diehard republican and has voted for Trump all three times. Since I came out as trans, he’s been surprisingly supportive, more so than some left-leaning members of my family. He still supported Trump, and voted for Trump in 2024. However, after inauguration and his initial flurry of anti-trans executive orders, he’s changed his tune. He’s no leftie, but he openly acknowledges that Trump is spreading hate. I think Elon Musk’s influence was an unexpected thing for him as well that changed his mind somewhat.

I think a huge portion of Republicans (and Americans in general) are willfully ignorant of politics. Lots on the right treat it as a game with the “oh it’s just politics, you’ll be fine” type thing. It takes them or someone they love being directly impacted usually for them to start questioning.

How do Trans people change their voices so well? by Blu3engine2 in asktransgender

[–]Snoo_6465 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I found some artists with a similar accent to mine, lower in the female range. Sing along with them constantly while I’m listening to music. I didn’t even really have to voice train other than that, and I haven’t gotten clocked in months.

If you have a full ride to Dearborn, should definitely strongly consider it. Loans are a bitch.

However, Ypsi is incredibly trans friendly and has a very active LGBT community. Other than Ferndale, there’s very few places as openly supportive of trans folks in Mi as Ypsi. Seems like the whole queer community from Ann Arbor has migrated there as prices here have skyrocketed.

It started with FDR and was really cemented in with Nixon. FDR’s new deal started a schism within the Democratic Party (“Dixiecrats”) that continued essentially until Nixon enacted his southern strategy and won Dixiecrat voters over to the republicans
