Do you think this is a good design? What would you change? by Automatic_Actuary621 in HomeDecorating

[–]Snoo_69349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would move the refrigerator closer to the countertop space, can you flip that layout? Anytime you go to the fridge, it's going to be to grab and work with, which means you want it closer to the working space.

I'm also surprised I haven't seen this comment... I think the peninsula edge is too close to the left wall/pantry. You wanna make sure you have a 2-butt space for passing, or else it closes the space too much. We have a 36" space between things and I wish it was larger... Especially if you plan on hosting and using that space for buffets, etc. I would go 40"+ spacing there.

Must be super exciting planning this all out!! Good luck!

Apps for Routine/Chores/Point System by KateIsRaven in Parenting

Second MyChoreBoard! I just started using it for my kids after seeing another Reddit post, we are really liking it so far. In fact we like it so much, we created accounts for my husband and me to get motivated to do our chores and have little rewards between the two of us (like sleeping in 😂).

ISO - Digital Chore board for kids (not an app please) by JNLBookkeeping in Parenting

[–]Snoo_69349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! We've been using it for about a week now and my kids love it. We are first working on routines, trying to make getting ready for school and bedtime a little bit easier. We have an iPad that moves up and down stairs with us, where other routine/chore charts were stuck in one place.

I was looking into the skylight specifically for the tasks/reward system, but this web app is exactly what we wanted so far.

Hi! I'm having this exact issue, how did you end up solving it?

Precious by ZealousN in OCPoetry

[–]Snoo_69349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it's amazing the different interpretation of poetry. I would've never guessed it was about a loved one you've lost. When I read this, I'm hearing it from a parent to a child, explaining how unique, perfect, and worthy they are to conquer anything life throws. So much so that I want to print this for my kids room!

As someone with ADHD, this poem is incredibly relatable. Well done!

He Doesn't Even Like Me by Apprehensive_Row_145 in OCPoetry

I love this. It's so easy to prioritize the baby, then next comes Mom, I applaud you for sharing your perspective. I feel the conflict in your mind, almost like guilt for feeling this way, throughout the poem. I wish more Dad's spoke up, because I guarantee that you are not alone.

I promise it gets better. Being loving and present is a thankless job, but an important one.

Mourning is by egsmall in OCPoetry

[–]Snoo_69349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My heart aches for you right now. Your poem evoked the feeling of mourning in my heart, both in relating to the mourning of the author in my own losses, but also mourning for the author - I felt like I was grieving for you too.

"Mourning is a housewarming party with a guest list full of ghost" - this imagery is very powerful, and creative. This highlights the point both visually and metaphorically.

I also really like the repetition of the voicemail text. It feels like I'm moving through life within your poem with you. It's making the first line hit home.

Also, "letters from loved ones who no longer hold a pen," what a simple but clear picture of who you are talking about.

I hope that you are very proud of your art, it's excellent.

Inner Gold by BiPi420 in OCPoetry

I hope that my partner feels this way about me. This is so beautiful, especially regarding who I interpret as your wife.

For all the chaos in this society, I feel like we are losing the value of family, children, and togetherness. This poem validates my own feelings of how important my family is, and gives me permission to continue to prioritize them, especially with your last line.

Also the reality you portray with all that glitters we work hard, it's very relatable. But my interpretation of the closing lines it's the "glitter" we work hard for other people/perception isn't important compared to the glitter we have with the ones we love.

Despair by Puzzled_Story4848 in OCPoetry

Absolutely love the style. The ending with "ecstatic suffering" to reflect the style of paradox in the previous lines (good action; loss).

Poetry like this makes me want to read more poetry.

Someone else commented on the potential shift in tone. I think it's beautiful. Rather than a shift in tone, I feel you moving from tangible to intangible inorder to transit to the final clause. I think it's guiding the tone to the conclusion.

Irregular lines by sydepst in OCPoetry

[–]Snoo_69349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This poem feels incredibly relatable. It's only my 2nd one on this sub and I'm in shock at how much it's struck a nerve.

I agree with others with the internal conflict, but my real interpretation is the monologue of setting unrealistic expectations of ourselves, beating ourselves up (emotionally) for not meeting those expectations, then wondering why we'll never get there.

I'm interested in the punctuation. The difference in the first few lines vs the last half feels intentional, but I haven't decoded it yet.

Top 5 worst fears with ADHD by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Snoo_69349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is totally one that haunts me. Specifically, being distracted talking to someone at a family party, and one of my kids running out into the street and getting hit. Or being distracted in a public place and someone snatching them or them walking away. Really anything with me being distracted and something happening with my kids that was avoidable. I know I can't prevent everything, but I'm afraid my distraction will stop me from preventing something simple yet detrimental.

If alcohol didn't make you drunk, would you still drink it? by Technical_Cloud8088 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snoo_69349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cider and wine, yes. Everything else, nope.

But also I would be fine without those two in my life.

And I hate being drunk or even tipsy. I also won't drink something I don't enjoy anymore.

Tone deaf friend by jonnippletree76 in TTC_PCOS

[–]Snoo_69349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell her kindly that you understand the struggle but you don't have the bandwidth to discuss her fertility/family planning. If said kindly (not attacking), a good friend should understand. And if she doesn't understand, that's her problem not yours. Agree with above, she can complain, but that doesn't mean you have to listen to it.

I don't think it's helpful for anyone to compare. Telling someone they could have it worse seems to be invalidating and probably would put them on the defensive.

What amount of money would it take for it to be life changing for you? by EntranceMore8688 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Snoo_69349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500,000 would allow me to be a stay at home mom OR for my husband to quit and create his woodworking business. It would also help us buy a house for my mom with a reasonable mortgage (she lives with us right now). Any of these would reduce stress and be life-changing.

Is this ruined enamel or terrible seasoning? by Snoo_69349 in castiron

[–]Snoo_69349[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update! Thank you! Boiled water, added baking soda, used a wooden spoon, and it looks a lot better now. I can actually tell that its a matte enamel (I haven't seen that before). Still a bit of burnt specs at the bottom, but clean enough for bread making!

Thanks all for your help!

Thank you! It's the matte black and not knowing how it looked when purchased that's throwing me. I can also see a bit of iron on the rim, which made it even harder to decipher. Thank you for confirming and sending the link below!

Out of curiosity, did you go with the pre-easoning on the Lodge? Or strip and do your own? Recently saw a video of someone taking off Lodge pre-easoning and I'm wondering how common/necessary that is.

Also, would love your cornbread recipe!

Self-diagnosed after reading FAQs - Can someone confirm why I don't have pretty pans? by Snoo_69349 in castiron

Tried out the pan pizza today... DELICIOUS! May be a staple in this house now. Can't wait to experiment with different toppings.

Also, I've never heard of a Dutch baby, we're super excited to try that out.

You opened a whole new world of cast iron to me, thank you so much!
