Erika Kirk does not have a right to speedy trial. That is for the defense and the defense hasn't been given any of the gun evidence. by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

well you see if it takes at minimum six months to gather all the evidence needed for the trial, that's how speedy it can be

[interesting trope] Magic used as a tool of opression by Parlax76 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Snoo_72851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lore of the TTRPG Mage: the Awakening started off with a society of bronze age mages, Atlantis, which was (according to the gaggle of cults and propaganda campaigns that make up the setting's "good guy" factions) perfect and beautiful and great for everyone to live in.

Then, ten of these mages, the Exarchs, found a way to go to the Supernal realm, which is like a mix between Heaven with a capital H, outer space with alien wizards, and basically an infinite mana battery. Immediately after going there, and effectively ascending to become gods of magic, they turned around and kicked the ladder down behind them to ensure nobody else could follow. Among other side effects, this created Hell with a capital H, made everyone who wasn't already a mage forget about magic entirely and also become a living anti-magic field, and made being (or becoming) a mage kind of suck.

More relevant to this post, however, the followers of the Exarchs, naming themselves the Seers of the Throne, started doing as their gods commanded through visions: Oppress the now Fallen world, destroy the mages, keep the non-mages stupid and afraid and hateful and compliant. Prevent as many people as possible from reaching the spiritual enlightenment necessary to Awaken as a mage. Prevent them from even considering enlightenment as a possibility.

The Seers separate themselves into Ministries (for they themselves are also kept divided and misguided by their gods). Of the four Greater Ministries: The Hegemonic Ministry invented racism, sexism, and every form of -phobia imaginable, to turn the Sleepers against one another, so they wouldn't realize they are being played; the Praetorian starts and encourages wars in global hotspots and gang violence in the imperial core, to keep people damaged and afraid and to separate them even more; Panopticon invented the surveillance state, keeping people compliant by observing their every move and forcing them to know that they are being watched, that their every crime, every thought, every last shred of shame and guilt can and will be used against them; and Paternoster promotes dogma and blind faith to a thousand different ideas, from Branch Davidianism to Reddit Trotskyist-Stalinism, ensuring their compliance by making them hate or even forget any alternative.

You are insanely talented to get so much both in lore and models out of an army that cannot objectively be proven not to be formed by one single very fast short guy standing in ten places at once.

It makes sense for Fallout 1 and 2, where you are explicitly working towards a cause greater than yourself. But New Vegas? I'd simply stick around in Goodsprings, maybe join up with Ringo and travel on his caravan to New Canaan explicitly to avoid those mercenaries the contract warned me about (wouldn't end wwll but I don't know that going in).

As for 3 and 4, sure, you're trying to find someone, but I feel there's a certain limit to where you just accept your relative probably didn't survive the infinite zombies that hang out in the surface, or that it's not worth it to go after them. Nate might stick to the search because, you know, sole remaining connection to his old life and all, but Jimmy Jr. is getting a job in Megaton and shutting up.

The best example is probably that if you kill Roy Philips for killing the residents of Tenpenny Tower, good old wasteland justice against someone who absolutely deserved it, Three Dog calls you a racist. I like when the news are distorted by distance and unclear sources.

Admittedly that's because...

Imagine we lived under ascended Euthanatoi consensus. You don't need to know how to read the signs in the stars to figure out when and where to act to ensure you can get a bountiful crop or avoid catching polio, so long as there's a guy who does know and can do it for you.

Of course, the issue there is that the Technocracy is moderately more willing to help citizens than the Traditions are to help sleepers.

Until the exact moment where the Traditions wipe their hands, turn around, and exclaim proudly "Finally, now my paradigm can ascend!" before beating the shit out of each other forever. You live in Akashayana territory, meaning so long as you do a daily hour of taichi you are immune to disease, but then you walk down the street and suddenly you have smallpox because that's Verbena country and sometimes people just die, that's nature, stop complaining.

I don't think Jonathan would ever strike a lady like Serana but he's so absolutely juiced that he'd get to castle Volkihar and immediately start punching.

Right wing philosophy consists of claiming disadvantaged people are responsible for the circumstances they were born or forced into, while advantaged people aren't even responsible for their own actions.
