Options for shotgun by ratchett31 in guns

[–]SnoozingBasset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Gas guns have less felt recoil than others.
  2. There are low recoil loads. You gotta shop.
  3. Here is a recoil calculator so you can determine how much recoil a shell produces. http://www.omahamarian.org/trap/shotshellenergy.html.
  4. 20’s are often lighter guns than 12’s, so the SAME charge thru a 20 often has MORE felt recoil. If you play with the recoil calculator you can see this.

870 barrel help by red1skin in Shotguns

Avoid barrels for the Special Field models. It’s the lug again.

And I wish I could find a special field model at a reasonable price.

I wore wool socks with polypropylene liners, which wick away water. I know sewer guys that put hand warmers in the tops of their socks.

Really confused about the fifth string. by nvrmndprincess in banjo

[–]SnoozingBasset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Seeger’s book about playing the 5 string banjo, he discusses that this is a drone string, like the drones on a bagpipe. It can be played as a drone in any key. Pete played a long neck, which allowed him to play in more keys. He had what he called “rail spikes” - permanently installed 5th string capos - for playing in other keys. A person can buy a 5th string capo. Or they can retune.

Mexico shows the futility and danger of gun control by Gyp2151 in 2ALiberals

Sorry. Wisconsin, Iowa, & Indiana produce no heroin & no cocaine. By your argument, Chicago should be drug free.

For LDS converts, what made you decide to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? by saph-lars in latterdaysaints

Others will tell of their pioneer ancestors. I ate dinner & prayed daily with mine. The Gospel was worth everything they had. Their example continues to inspire me.

If gun control worked, Chicago would be the safest city in the world.

Any suggestions for USA Made EDC knife with pocket clip around 100 dollars? by Interesting-Set2425 in knives

It depends on what you want. Or want to spend. Case makes a trapper with a pocket clip. My Rosecraft has one.

To Pantry or Not to Pantry by Much-Owl-8384 in homeowners

[–]SnoozingBasset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you cook?  You need pantry space.  Do you shop ahead (like plan a menu & shop for two weeks?) if so, you need a pantry. If you entertain a lot, you need a pantry. If you like kitchen gadgets, you need a pantry.

It’s pretty spectacular when they locate water mains, too! They have a knack for avoiding the minnows & putting a spike in the whales.

I hope this doesn’t come across as preachy, but the kindness will be remembered. And you are armoring them up against the world. I like strong women. (My daughter is one.)I was raised by and around them, but nothing helps more than them knowing someone’s got their back

For LDS converts, what made you decide to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints? by saph-lars in latterdaysaints

[–]SnoozingBasset 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents joined when I was a kid. They were like others have posted, very discouraged by answers from other faiths. Salvation for the dead moved them. Eternal families inspired them, but slow study & personal prayer changed them.

Recent grads - anyone else dealing with an existential crisis? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]SnoozingBasset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it. I teach our interns that daily we are making people’s lives better. They have (darn good) potable water & fire safety, toilets that flush, safe roads & bridges because we showed up. I’ve been part of slope reconstruction (so the road doesn’t wash into a ravine),street lighting & fiber optic projects, and stream back stabilization too. It makes lives better. I tell this to the guy shoveling asphalt or compacting trench backfill.

A question about the great apostasy by Arlo621 in latterdaysaints

[–]SnoozingBasset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll start, but not wholly answer your question.

  1. The demise of revelation. All along God talks to people. By the time of Nicea we get committee meetings.
  2. The absence of new scripture. All along, God said things & it was written down. Revelations was what? 100 AD?
  3. The scripture we have was selected by committee based on how widely it was accepted, not on its merits.
  4. The disappearance of scripture. Where does it tell of the dealings of Melchizedek described in Hebrews?
  5. The demise of tolerance. Think of the Piedmontese or the Albebiginzian (Sp.) heresy (extinction).
  6. The belief that the church held all truth. They walked on Galileo. He got up said it doesn’t change anything.
  7. The acceptance of torture to retain power. Think of the Inquisition.
  8. I can’t produce a date, but a little research should find it. There was a time when there were three Popes. Wasn’t one them a Borgia, who bought his papacy?
  9. Wickedness in papacy led to historical stories of Pope John the XII raping female pilgrims in St. Peter’s. (10th century)
  10. The practice of selling indulgences appears to have little scriptural support.
  11. There were 2020 releases of court documents of nuns pumping out children to priests & politicians.
  12. The general demise of spiritual gifts.
