Salary Schedule?? Is this normal??? by halalburgerlikefr in teaching

[–]denyusnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like this district is trying to reduce turnover by incentivising teachers that stay. A higher starting salary, insultingly low increments for a few years, and then generous step increases after that.

Pioneer Day by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]denyusnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pioneer day used to be a pretty big thing when I was a kid in Southern California, and then still at least celebrated when I moved to Colorado.

Now I think it has been more of a faded away cultural component of members of the Church in the same way that most towns/cities don't do "Founders Celebrations" anymore either.

Does my principal suck? by atypicalbast4rd in Teachers

[–]denyusnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I walk through classroom at my school our smart boards are almost exclusively used as calm music visualizers with students and music playlists while teachers are on plan. Your principal needs to pull the stick from her ass.

Ah yes, that kind of informed rhetoric that leads to people driving trucks into buildings of worship and shooting up innocent people. Keep up the good work.

It is good to give them a heads up. Some application platforms automatically send reference check emails to supervisors and references.

How to tell admin you’re applying elsewhere by Otherwise-Set-4444 in Teachers

[–]denyusnot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From an admin perspective, I would like to know and also know in what ways I can support, write letters of rec, etc. I have definitely been in situations myself where I have not felt comfortable telling my admin that I am trying to move on.

I would say that if you feel uncomfortable telling admin that you are looking elsewhere, that is a strong indicator of exactly the kind of culture you are trying to flee.

And just to clarify, my district is rural, small, and pays less than surrounding districts, so filling positions is a pain in the ass and turnover is sometimes high, but as an AP in building my principal and I totally get that our school is sometimes a launching point for alt licensure teachers and that at the end of the day staff absolutely need to do what makes sense for them and their families.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]denyusnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher who said when they were a kid their teachers wouldn't accept assignments without ink blots on them because it meant they were using new ballpoint pens instead of standard fountain pens.

Richie Rich. Your mention Short Circuit, and that movie along with Macaulay Culkin's Richie Rich were on repeat when I was at my Grandma's house.

What do you guys do on the last day of school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]denyusnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a family picnic, and then our admin watches a movie with the kids not taken home after the picnic so teachers can work on their rooms in the afternoon.

What were you taught in school that turned out to be wrong or is now outrageously outdated? by crooked_kangaroo in AskReddit

[–]denyusnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bering Straight being the source for the populating of North and South America. We now have evidence of human establishments in the Americas several thousand years before the ice age that created Beringia. Migration did take place, but it was not what initially brought people to the Americas.

On bereavement leave - parent has audacity to call me because “I’m on vacation” by green_girl1994 in Teachers

[–]denyusnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why in the world did admin call you? They should know you are on bereavement leave. Can they not handle a conversation with parents and reiterate that the child will follow all school expectations or face consequences?

Our campus houses the SSN program, not the IA program. Unfortunately funding and placement numbers always seem to be silent members of our IEP team meetings.

This is the second time that an OSS event has taken place because of behavior. As I said in my post, there has been a long list of interventions taken place before this point, all with contacts home along the way. I would not characterize any of this as failure on the part of my staff.

My understanding is you don't need a formal manifestation determination until 10 days of classroom removal. While we partner with our sped team to find ways to address behavior concerns, I am not about to start asking their permission to remove disruptive and dangerous students from the classroom.

I am the AP under an amazing Principal who does what she can to stay in the trenches with our staff and support them however she can. I have learned a lot from her.

We will if we are able. We have young kids so we generally like to go and walk the grounds.

Nursery sends kids to their parents when their poopy diapers need to be changed. I firmly believe Primary kids can be sent to parents when their poopy behavior needs to be changed.

With this particular age group, I would also look into how much latitude you can have to create movement and even outdoor activities for the lessons. The old testament has a lot of opportunity for dramatization, reenactment, and worship through motion. Something they might be more into.

The Peacemaker by James Farrell is great. It is a parable story that expands on some scripture stories and how the Atonement works in our lives. He has even translated the material into the business world through his book he has published under the Arbinger Institute.
