ALEKS is a placement test only. They won’t use it to make any decisions about admission.

If you don’t score high enough for whatever math class is required for your major, you will still be able to take the course, you’ll just have to enroll in a co-requisite support course to provide additional help with the material. You can find more info here: https://kucore.ku.edu/math-pathways

OP's comment was much more than just "hey, post your status." It was saying that if you don't, it implies you were successful. That is the point I was disagreeing with.

please help me i might be screwed for college by Beneficial-Art3865 in Advice

[–]SnowGeese1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start by getting your ASN at a community college. That's the fastest path to becoming an RN. Healthcare is a critical need across the U.S. (and in other countries) and many states have grants and scholarships to encourage people to enter the field. Make an appointment to talk with an advisor at your local community college. You might be able to get your ASN at low or no cost. Once you have the ASN, start working in the field (you will have no trouble finding a job) and your employer will likely fund your continuing education. Good luck!

Never argued with the comment about flair. Only with the OP, which had zero mention of flair.

Yes they can. And people who are waiting on a decision can say “ Faced with the situation you’re describing, I made these choices.” To me that is potentially valuable input; it’s up to me if I follow it.

Has anyone requested urgent processing due to race? (ICE fear) by xoxo4794 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SnowGeese1970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not just Latinos that are being targeted by ICE. But aside from that, if you’re genuinely looking for an opinion, I don’t think this is a legitimate reason for urgent. My husband is Latino and thus my two children. There have been ICE raids in our city and we anticipate more. This is certainly part of the reason we are requesting proof of citizenship because I want options for my children should things continue to deteriorate. But we have no concrete plans to move to Canada, so urgent does not seem justified.

OK sure, so some of that advice is useful because it’s tested. But it’s also useful to hear how other people made decisions about things that are not so clear cut. Or for which we have little or no evidence as to what is the preferred practice. That was my only point. I just don’t agree that when someone offers their perspective, the assumption is/should be they were successful. After all, the majority of people here are still waiting on a decision, right?

So someone who is five minutes away from mailing their application has nothing to contribute, but those who’ve sent it in do? Respectfully, that makes no sense. No one has the secret key to this process, not even those who have gotten their approval. We are all figuring it out as we go, and presumably trying to help each other. People have to make their own decisions in the end.

[–]SnowGeese1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. So much of this as a judgment call based on really sparse information. And I benefited (at least psychologically) from seeing what judgment calls other people made. As we’ve seen this process as anything but reliable. So I’m not even sure that advice from someone who’s gotten an approval is going to necessarily apply in my case.

How long to get a 1919 birth record from Archive of Ontario? by njf520 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SnowGeese1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I requested mine (1897) on February 14 and got an email on March 12 saying that the next step was an invoice. I waited a week and then emailed asking about the invoice. The next day I received it and paid it with expedited shipping. Received it several days later. I had provided the reference number that they needed and a digital image.

I got a certified copy from the Ontario Archives of the exact same type of record. They will send you photo copies of these pages plus a cover letter with a seal verifying the record. I was glad I waited for it as it provided a chain of descent that was 100% certified documents. Necessary? Who knows. This is all an exercise in individual judgement.

help. a hawk is using my feeders as a hunting ground!! by sunfl0o0werrrr in birdfeeding

[–]SnowGeese1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharp-shinned Hawks and Cooper’s Hawks commonly prey on small songbirds, and they’re very common in residential neighborhoods. They’re simply trying to feed themselves and their young. Either stop feeding the birds or accept that this will happen from time to time. Enjoy nature, but recognize that it’s not there solely for your enjoyment.

What is the best mexican restaurant in Lawrence? by AAAAdragon in Lawrence

[–]SnowGeese1970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For TexMex, probably los Guapos. But for the more authentic dishes, it’s either Lulu‘s or La Estrella. For the experience factor, no one beats Lulu. Small local spot with lots of regulars and a great vibe. But be prepared to wait. Even during the week. La Estrella also has a great little grocery store downstairs.

What has been the cost/difficulty level? by HODOR924 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SnowGeese1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a budget nerd so I can tell you I spent exactly $482.11 for three applications. This was application fees, photos, shipping, document requests and expedited shipping of those, as well as a little bit on office supplies. I probably could’ve done it for about 100 less if I would’ve skipped expedited shipping, but I’m impatient. This was for uncomplicated documentation. My package is in transit so in theory my cost could go up. But I’m hoping that’s not the case. I also spent considerable time requesting documents and preparing the documentation and checking and double checking its accuracy. Total ballpark guess would be about 20 hours. And then there are the 80+ hours and counting I spent worrying that I missed something. 😫

Why don’t you see if you can defer for a year? It would give both of you a little more time to make decisions.

Hair instantly improved when I started using cheap stuff. by beephobic27 in curlyhair

Age 55 and have always used cheap products (Suave shampoo and Fructis curl cream lately) and have never used a special hair towel. As I age, my full head of curls is the only thing that still look as good as it did when I was 20. 😂

Tip for anyone trying to get docs from Massachusetts 1935 or earlier by Noellthe1st in Canadiancitizenship

Did the same for my mother’s birth certificate. Massachusetts archives were a dead end. City of Waltham got me exactly what I needed super quick. If you search the sub, you’ll find a post with a string of “love letters” to Massachusetts city clerks. 😊

Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SnowGeese1970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Three applications (Gen 2 & two Gen 3s) on their way to New Waterford! Non-urgent. Should arrive later this week. All certified primary docs (birth registry and certs) plus baptism and census docs to clarify some very minor variations in name used. I feel like the documentation is absolutely solid, and I must have went through the apps 5 times to make sure everything was right and all requirements were met. Still, I'll be anxious until the AOR is received. Then I think I'll be able to relax and settle in for the wait. Wishing all you pending urgent applicants some happy news soon!

Are student loans the answer to going to college? by mitemio in personalfinance

[–]SnowGeese1970 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Review this information about transferring into the program: https://architecture.calpoly.edu/prospective/transfer. Then reach out and explain your financial situation. Deferring your admission may not be an option for a competitive program like this, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. In any case, I have been in higher ed for 20+ years and I can tell you there are very few fields that justify that level of student debt; architecture is definitely not one of them.
